Sure, the convo started off in places we never expected, but stick around ... because Susan drops incredible advice on fests and more. Film festivals not only highlight incredible talent, but also provide great networking opportunities for indie filmmakers.

The festival runs April 18-25, 2026 (always in April, so plan ahead).

  • Sadie and Jeanne chat (yet again) with the fabulous screenwriter-turned-therapist Phil Stark (Dude, Where's My Car, "That 70s Show," "South Park") about his new book How to Be a Screenwriter.

There's talk of therapy for writing partnerships, the morality of using A.I., what inspired Phil to write a screenwriting book, and how he aimed to bring a new perspective to the bookshelves—by talking about what it's really like to be a screenwriter.

  • It's not everyday we get a writer with the life and work experience of Charles Kipps to join our crazy podcast, let alone have a therapy session with Sadie and Jeanne.

Yes, we talked about everything from Charles producing Aretha Franklin, to our struggles as writers, to Charles' decades of writing experiences ... and he's still selling screenplays to this day!

You're not going to want to miss this one ... so much great advice from the legend that is Charles Kipps. (See below for Charles' full bio.)

One note of correction: Charles inadvertently stated that Bill Cosby's agent helped him get his first book published, but it was actually Cosby's editor who did. Just wanted to correct that for the record.

Writer/producer Charles Kipps has won an Emmy, Peabody, Humanitas Prize, and Mystery Writers Edgar Award.

Among his credits are Exiled: A Law & Order Movie and the 25th Anniversary Columbo special, A Trace of Murder. His film credits include Fat Albert: The Movie as well as independent films Frame of Mind, Zarra’s Law, and Anatomy of the Tide. He is currently in preproduction with Someday Sometime, a music driven romantic comedy which he will also direct.

Kipps is the author of the Conor Bard Mysteries. The first three titles are Hell’s Kitchen Homicide, Crystal Death and Times Square Trouble. The novels chronicle the days and nights of Conor Bard, an NYPD Detective who, while a dedicated cop, considers himself a musician with a day job. Kipps also wrote two nonfiction books: Cop Without A Badge, which details the exploits of a confidential informant who worked with both local and federal law enforcement; and Out of Focus, which goes behind the scenes of a turbulent year at Columbia Pictures. His new novel is Absolute Threshold, an espionage thriller. It is the first in a series about CIA psychiatrist Harvey Chatham as he combines psychology with spy craft.

Kipps received numerous gold records and Broadcast Music awards while writing and producing songs for artists such as Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Melba Moore, and Temptations lead singer David Ruffin for whom he wrote the hit Walk Away From Love. He was a partner in McCoy/Kipps Productions with Van McCoy, whose recording of The Hustle topped the Billboard charts

  • Can you believe we haven't talked to a horror writer yet? Well, we fixed that ... meet Seth Sherwood.

Sadie Dean and Jeanne Veillette Bowerman talk with Emmy-nominated horror writer/director Seth Sherwood about the 10 years it took for him to break in, the challenges and joys of writing horror, tips for newbies wanting to break in, and so much more!

    Seth Sherwood's Full Bio:

Seth M Sherwood is an Emmy-nominated Los Angeles-based screenwriter, director, designer, and producer. His feature screenwriting credits include Leatherface for Millennium/Lion’s Gate and Hellfest for Valhalla/CBS Films. He also provided uncredited on-set script work for London Has Fallen. On the TV side, Seth has staffed on two teen-horror shows with Awesomeness TV: The Unsettling and Light as a Feather for Hulu. He’s also written for the forthcoming Wytches for Amazon. He has developed original pilots with Amblin TV, Valhalla Entertainment, and Universal.

In the 90s Seth was a Pacific NW art-kid who made zines out of Fangoria magazines at Kinkos and was an early adopter of Apple products, (and now they’ve trapped him.) He hopes to some day pay off his student loans. If he died tomorrow he would be survived by several bottles of anti-anxiety meds.

He’s also still looking for somebody to invite him to their D&D group.

    ABOUT JOSH ZETUMER

Joshua Zetumer serves as the showrunner, executive producer and head writer of FX’s Say Nothing, an adaptation of the New York Times best selling and National Book Critics Circle Award for Non-Fiction winning book "Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland" by Patrick Radden Keefe.
