well, I polled our Twitter followers on which film they wanted us to cover next in our commentary series, and Polanski nation (Poland?) won out decisively, defeating other hot prospects such as Ridley Scott's The Counselor and the enticing "Extreme Prejudice ft. FFF" (the Fuckedman is in tow once again here, and will be joining us as an auxiliary member of the show for at least a majority of our commentaries). join us as we watch a very great film by a very bad man, and talk about important issues such as public ownership of utilities and the Chinese.

This time it's a two-hander, in which I sit down with him to watch a documentary about Japanese idol culture, which aired as part of the BBC's Storyville series under the name TOKYO GIRLS in 2017. We do live commentary on the whole film, but before that we chat a little about movies and even some politics. -
Lilah @palebloodstasi (formerly @leechwaifu) returns to the show to pay tribute to the great DAVID LYNCH, the indescribable director, writer, sonic sculptor, visual artist, musician, meditation guru, actor and general polymathic artistic genius, who died a month ago on January 15th. In the classic wide-ranging, structureless RP style, we try our best to dig into every obscure nook and cranny of his deceptively vast body of work. while giving ample time to the stuff everyone likes, like Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive. RIP to one of the greats.

Whilst our potted run through Mickey Rourke's "imperial phase" appeared in the main Year of the Dragon episode, I thought it would be a tighter episode if these discussions of Rourke's more variable-in-quality later work, as well as Michael Cimino's tragically brief filmography, came out as their own thing. This bonus episode also features another classic RP Skype screen-share moment as FFF shows Geraint and I a clip from a movie where Matthew Perry teaches some inner-city kids about America's early presidents through the medium of rap music (I, in turn, recommend Bulworth to him, following my earlier recommendation of Cimino's Clint Eastwood-starring directorial debut Thunderbolt & Lightfoot). - JFR -
