Today we’re joined by Lynn Harris, founder of Gold Comedy: a comedy school, professional network, and content studio built to support women as they grow their careers (and make funny stuff!). We talk about Lynn’s early realization — men are allowed to be sloppy and experimental, yet still be seen as promising, charming even. But if women are *too* messy, too much, it’ll never accepted. They're supposed to arrive ready, or they don't belong. This has never been an even playing field. And when the industry won’t make room for us to grow, there are places we can build that will.

Today we dive into gaming culture, joined by Alison’s dear friend Spenser! Who plays these video games anyway? And not just who plays them… who identifies as a "gamer”? We talk about player demographics, studies on the effects of violent video games, and the sexist/discriminatory practices of gaming companies. Then we get into GamerGate, and how its bullshit didn’t stay local to gaming, but bled into the rise of the alt-right movement as well. Turns out it was never really about video games in the first place.

Casual interview with rockstar Lzzy Hale of the band Halestorm (!!). SO thrilled to have her on the podcast to talk about what it's like to be an unapologetic woman in a male dominated field — in this case the music industry and especially the rock genre! We get into how rewarding it is to lead by example and empower women as they find their voice, the courage that comes after facing fear, and plenty more along the way. We are here to lift each other up, to show what's possible, and, as always, are stronger together.

Today we are joined by Danny of the "Am I The A**hole Podcast"! Danny pre-selected a few queries relevant to our SADGAP interests to read and assess: attractive salesperson, body hair, and landlord transactions. We deliver final rulings, that are certainly free of personal bias and leave no room for arguement. It's a fun time! Best case scenario, you like it too.

@misandristmemes is joined by @meme.phistopheles (aka Sean) for a solid yap sesh. Topics include: unlearning emotional repression, toxic masculinity as a perversion of stoicism, how to unironically use the word ally in the context of feminism, and like 45 other tangents. Patriarchy hurts everyone. Gatekeeping protects the gate but can also block resources. Your bf should go to therapy. Societal conditioning sucks and everyone's tired ._.
Check out Sean’s book “Everything Will Be Okay“, available pretty much everywhere!

Twilight receives a lot of criticism. Romance novels and love triangles, which teenage girls tend to enjoy, are treated as cringe. The problematic but fantastical (& impossible to recreate irl) age gap gets framed as dangerous messaging. While another massively popular series filled with incest and nonconsensual sex earned mainstream fame without the same scrutiny. But unlike many other fantasy bestsellers, Twilight was written by a woman, marketed to young women, and it became a punchline. We don't have to personally love it, but let's not yuck anyone's yum. It's not hurting the culture, and teen girls are allowed little a treat.

Meet the lovely Alaina Shearer! Alaina launched a nationwide network for women in tech, founded a marketing agency, somehow raised kids while doing all this, and oh yeah ran for Congress that one time?? Along the way she learned to navigate and push back in male dominated fields — including as a radio host, and working for a Don Draper-level sexist stripped of anything that resembles charming. Officially the most grown-up adult we’ve ever interviewed, Alaina has wonderful insights to share as a bonafide girlboss (NOT sarcastically for once).

(**Alison decided to record this one underwater. Just for fun. Or maybe the audio settings were jacked, the quality suffered, and we're really sorry. Glub glub.) -
Corrin and Alison chat about the kind of experience teenage models are likely to have when shooting with older male photographers. SPOILER -- it goes kind of exactly how you expect! The conversation strays into other fun topics like: street harassment, pervy bosses, age inappropriate bfs, and shame-centric body standards. Yy..ayyy.

This week we talk to Babs Gray (ig: @babs_gray), whose podcast ignited the Free Britney movement! It was of course a team effort as thousands of people became motivated to help the pop princess find freedom. But Babs and her co-host Tess, with the help of a whistleblower close to the situation, took a risk in making this story public. Using their podcast platform for reach, Babs and Tess invested significant time, money, and energy - and IT WORKED.
So tune in for a behind-the-scenes peak on how Free Britney finally Freed Britney.

A new episode, a new episode, it’s a new episode yay! And it’s not even paywalled you lucky duck! This one isn't exactly studied through a psych lens, and it’s not about the horrible men who have gaslit you — but you are STRONGLY encouraged to write in to [email protected] to share your gaslighting stories! Instead, Alison the Pedant has a bone to pick with the evolution of this word and its meaning over the last 90-ish years. And just so she’ll finally stop bitching about it, Friend of the Pod Prabha joins the pod to talk it all out, explain it all out, and hopefully you enjoy it along the way.

Discussion of the 2025 movie "Companion" starring Sophie Thatcher and directed by Drew Hancock. Hosted with returning guest Nick, friend of the crew friend of the pod. A review of the film with a focus on its feminist themes. (shocking, I know)
**Episode is full of spoilers! So many! -
Recorded in late 2024 with content creator/internet historian Bree Essrig and OG hostess Alexis! (Previously paywalled, has audio issues and rich chaotic bisexual energy.) Tune in for personal stories of getting doxxed, wikifeet, queer dating, and more. Also discussion of sex work from a firsthand account, including legalization and pro/cons of in-person vs online sex work!

Featuring Joe of the “Boys Watching Buffy” podcast to answer all our deep dive questions! First we break down the overall plot and characters, then explore the ~feminist themes~ found in Sunnyvale. The damsel in distress trope is subverted. The Bechdel Test, consistently slayed. The patriarchy sits on a council wearing tweed. Buffy and Willow find their agency, Warren gets his orbs crushed, and wtf is wrong with Joss Whedon! If you’ve never seen Buffy, now you can hold your own in a conversation as if you had (basically). And if you love Buffy already, learn even more from someone who has done their damn homework!

A rich conversation with filmmaker & poetess Effie Spence about feminine wisdom and the power of recentering matriarchal values. Effie shares her period-stained poetry ‘A Bloody Mess’ and docuseries ‘Motherland’, which follows her journey to ancestral roots to rediscover herself through the women who came before. We talk tarot, menarche malarkey, cycle syncing, and more. Includes a question for all about how to turn this sadgap.podcast into a practical community of care. (Bonus toward the end, and a big topic: what if the antithesis of patriarchy isn’t the smashing we’ve heard about, but something softer and more intimate instead.)

Today we sit down with writer Chloe Marie Stillwell for a whirlwind of stories -- from pissing off Lady Gaga with a viral Ed Sheeran takedown to Chloe's journey with recovery, and everything in between. We talk about her experience writing for Playboy, finding internet fame via (an also viral) mugshot, and what happens when Dolly Parton’s publicist hates you. Plus: Sabrina Carpenter’s “Man’s Best Friend” album cover. Satire, setback, or a secret third thing?

Alison is joined this week by good friend Chris. Chris served under Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, identifying then as a lesbian, and came out the other side — literally! We get into the unique perspective of being a trans man socialized as feminine, who now gets the male privilege that comes with passing. As well as the omnipresent misogyny in military life, and what being autistic taught him about masking and self-preservation. Good stuff for people on the journey to find confidence and self-acceptance!

Classic A&A crew chatting it UP! Disjointed topics include: community college, the Are We Dating the Same Guy? facebook group, “male loneliness epidemic”, tipping your bartender, Uber terrors, anime (briefly, we don’t watch it), Binchtopia vocabularly, plus some serious tips & tricks for avoiding an accidental fentanyl overdose. (TW for descriptions of suicide, death in general.)

Alison is joined by bestie Nick to talk about ladies of lore and the problematic retelling of their stories. Medusa: assault survivor. Arachne: pro weaver pitted against Athena. Circe: just wanted to chill as an island witch. Artemis: turned a gross man into a bambi. Pandora: set up to fail à la garden of eden. Enjoy!

Alison is joined by Stefani and Anna to talk about their experiences in comedy! We get into how their gender has shaped the way they’re received on stage, tokenization, and the balance of success without compromise. Also: why do men assume a woman making sexual jokes is “very sexual” - and why is that a problem? Why do audience members respond to a bit as if they’re on a date with the gal on stage? Why can men make a r*pe joke but a survivor can’t? Many such questions!
Includes musings on the origins of intercourse and the importance of self-satisfying. Ends with advice for aspiring comics (it’s to masturbate more often).
