  • What states are good for virtual first companies?

Christina Farr wrote a great article “Why investors are leaning into direct-to-consumer health”. An important factor is because you can’t hide behind a bad product. In DTC consumers make a choice to pay cash, which means your service has to deliver.

In this episode of Sam Talks Telehealth, I want to use your DTC model and target states that are pro virtual first companies.

Here’s what you need to know:

What makes a state good for virtual first companies? What states already have a virtual first friendly payer environment? How can I leverage my DTC market to fee for service insurance payment?

Where does the state have virtual first friendly policies,

Your investor pitch is stronger when you can show a clear and easy path from DTC to insurance payment. 20+ states in the US give you the tools you need.

It’s a common question but ask this instead; what’s your clinical strategy and how can digital health help achieve it. Virtual care, telehealth, digital health are only tools to deliver clinical care, they’re not unique and distinct clinical services.

Today’s podcasts walks through two examples of using digital health to support your strategy.

Strategy #1: Decrease No ShowsStrategy #2: Integrate Behavioral Health

In the case of a digital strategy, your long term success will come when you work backwards. Create your digital health strategy after you know how the tools will advance the most important goals of your organization.

  • With $14.7 billion in venture capital invested in digital health to date in 2021, who will be the in-person partner?

We talk about health systems growing their virtual health services but who’s going to step up and partner with virtual first companies. From Sam's vantage point, I see current hospitals executives ignoring the piranhas taking small bites out of the big fish.

With companies like Omada, Hinge Health, Livongo among many more tackling the so-called ‘loss leaders’ and non-procedural services the referral patterns are drastically different than they were a few years ago.

In this episode of Sam Talks Telehealth I’m looking at

1️⃣ What are the advantages to being the in-person partner to virtual first companies?

2️⃣ What requirements for success will hospitals need as a partner?

3️⃣ What’s at stake if health systems continue to ignore the virtual first sector?

We can’t wait to listen to this again in 5 years and see what holds true.

  • What are providers saying about telehealth?

It’s valuable to know how providers feel about telehealth since so many were thrown straight in during the pandemic. The Telehealth Impact: Physician Survey Analysis was conducted in November 2020 and gives great insights.

I’m taking you through an analysis of the survey.

    Key areas to consider:

1️⃣ How do providers feel about telehealth?

2️⃣ What are the biggest concerns about continued service after the pandemic?

3️⃣ What services are a great fit for telehealth and how can this be expanded?

Most providers started doing telehealth during the pandemic. As we move back to in person care and develop our hybrid models of virtual and in-person let’s use the insights given by physicians. Look across the care continuum, see where telehealth can move us farther in our digital transformation.
