Well, triple hello my beautiful babies. What a cracking episode I have for you this week.

Last week Linda the VW camper and I made our first trip away and met the Belter from Belper herself, Selina Mosinski, better known as Charity Shop Sue! Literally one of my favourite comedy characters of modern times.

And what a great, smart, chatty and straight talkin' delight she turned out to be. Listen to us waxing on about comedy, creativity and authenticity over a couple of pints of Shipyard, before i went and got drunk with friend and Patron, 'Reece the piece' who lives nearby. He even let Linda and I kip in his work carpark.

A sensational start to the man and van era of Stupid Hearts Club.

    Enjoy.....

    Dad n Linda

    Heya kids! (Heya Nico!)

Today in the conversational gunge tank sees a second pod-visit from my friend, comedy writer and studio format wizard Ali Crockatt. Ali literally DEMANDED for this episode to happen at 4.30 at my gaff last Friday, like a gangster dropping in to give a lowlife grass one more chance before he cuts him a new face the dirty little ponce.

Here we chat about our middling careers in TV comedy, the cerebral magic of 70's culture and then have a half hearted but funny attempt to get deep about the depiction of war in fiction before realising we don't know what we're fucking on about. Something there's not enough of at the moment in my meaningless little opinion. We got drunk after this. Bye.

Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.

This week I offer to you an impassioned, deep and often troubling conversation with a stalwart of the London alternative comedy scene. Promoter, compere and agitator in chief Harry Deansway.

Harry has run some of the maddest, grass roots comedy night in London over the last decade and a half maybe and his principles are something that everyone is our community has come across at some point or other, for better or worse. I am never bored when talking to Harry even when I fervently disagree with what he is saying, and I think that overall comedy needs more and not less characters like him around to help nurture the mad shit that can become the most original acts out there.

A small warning. There are one or sentiments in here that might not be to everyones tastes, please don't come at me telling me what they are and why they are wrong. I already know lol.

    Enjoy the chat

    Your loving podfather

  • Welcome to the Stupid Hearts Club Podcast! A place for everyone who believes in love, openness, creativity and giving life a good bloody go.

    -------------------

This weeks chat is very special and is a Music Dad Podcast episode.

Last week I took myself to off to a fancy-pants Rock Star hotel in Kensington, London to chew the fat with Scouse bass legend Russ Pritchard of Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds. Also formerly of the Zutons, and The Big Kids (who you MUST check out).

in this brilliant, insightful and beautifully honest chat we hear what it's like and what it takes, alongside luck, to claw your way up in the music scene. We discuss the dedication and guts it takes to hone your craft so hard that you one day may find yourself casually sparking a co-write of a song that will then become a part of popular culture as ubiquitous as salt in the briny sea (none other than 'Valerie'). I think you will love Russ, he is very much a person who clearly doesn't take a single moment of his job for granted, and he made me a proper Brew with not too much milk in it.

This FREE version of the chat is dead ace but FYI, there is a different edit with a longer cut of our chat on my patreon at patreon.com/stupidheartsclub in which Russ tells the very amusing story of how he got the job with Noel Gallagher- There are a good few extras sitting waiting for you in the patreon feed going back months, including episodes of 'Tea and Empathy' where I meet strangers in cafes for a brew and find lots of humanity, and several episodes of The Busking Chronicles, which is what I called my music based eps before I realised I was in fact The Music Dad.

Wherever or however you enjoy the joy thank you so much for being here

Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.

What a wonderful, rich, musical treat I have in store for you this week as I drop my second ever official Music Dad podcast. This week my guest is a very very talented lad indeed who goes by the name of Christian Le Surf. I saw Christian NAILING his first ever headline gig the the other week and was blown away by how well arranged his songs were. This episode goes some way to showing where that ability comes from as we get a peek into the mind of a serious musical talent. Christian then plays us acoustic versions of two of his originals, does an ace cover of 'Senses Working Overtime' by XTC, and then pluckily joins me in a rendition of one of my own songs 'The Place Beyond The Tears'.

To enjoy the full effect of how good this dude is absolutely make sure you go and check him out @christianlesurfmusic on Instagram and search for Christian Le Surf on Spotify, Facebook and Bandcamp (which is probably the best place to help him make a few pennies).

    Hope you enjoy

    -------------------

    Greetings my Stupid Hearted angels.

This episode of The Stupid Hearts Club Podcast features myself and anti-comedy king Mark Silcox enjoying a sumptuous Punjabi meal in central London on a sunny Friday afternoon and really getting under the bonnet of his comedy philosophy.

I knew I was going to love catching up properly with Mark (which it turns out is a stage name, um...what?) but I had no idea just how deep my admiration would be for his journey from India, to unassuming science teacher to stalwart of the avant-garde UK comedy scene and Uncle Shady in Man Like Mobeen.

This mans mind has to be heard to be believed (yes I'm reclaiming that tire old phrase for the pod world) and frankly I would happily have him on as a regular for his insight and disarming leftfield wit.

    Happy June everybody.

I am BACK after a wee sabbatical after celebrating my 50th and boy do I have a good solid month of top poddingtons lined up for you. My various pod projects are starting to move apace and it's all getting rather exciting.

Today I am sharing the first episode of what will now be called The Music Dad Podcast. It's basically the same as 'The Busking Chronicles' in that I talk to a musician and learn a bit about their world, but from today I am leaning more into the idea that I am playing, watching and making more music than ever at the ripe old age of 50. Hence calling myself the Music Dad, as my 'angle'.

I never really felt the busking chronicles was the right title for the several musicky episodes that came before this one (please go and check them out if you haven't already. they are mainly on Patreon). Then along came this episodes guest Delphine, and along with her a whole new surge of energy and a shared commitment to a seriously exciting new joint creative project.

I am so excited to introduce Delphine to you. She is a great kid with bags of talent musically, podilly and just as a human being -and this conversation was kind of the genesis of us joining forces to get not one, but two music podcasts started and out there, both with a different but equally valid mission of encouraging musicians to flourish everywhere.

Coming soon, a post-50th reflective solo and a very lovely, fun comedy chat with comedy man of mystique, Mark Silcox from Man like Mobeen.

Stay tuned and spread the word babies. Things are on the up

    -------------------

    Hello lovelies

Back in November my excellent comedy actor pal Laura Patch (from Netflix hit Afterlife) let me into her rather impressive kitchen for a chat about life, writing and processing trauma. That's episode 73 if you want to go back and find it. Now 6 months later, the play she was merely tinkering with back then is up on it's feet as Laura performs it and hones it into it's perfect shape. Last Friday I had a brilliiant catch up with her in Cote in Soho (OooooOOOOoooooh, alright Lawrence LLywellyn Bowen).

We had a further chat about writing about personal experience, and processing trauma which has become a very hot issue the last few weeks since Baby Reindeer arrived and seemingly caught the attention of the whole world, and not always for the better as the hype and opinion furnace began to rage.

After our chat I went and watched Glorious in Clapham on Tuesday where I got to see Laura in action. I also got to meet some of Lauras buddies which was very interesting indeed and only confirms to me how ace and loved she is, the absolute sod.

This ep concludes with me referring back to watching the play, and reflecting on how great it is watching a project go through the stages of finding it's truest self.

    Stirring stuff

    Hope you enjoy

    Nico

    Hey babez,

Just two days ago Alistair and I met in a bar in Victoria and had as troubling a conversation as we have ever had. I recorded badly on a Zoom recorder but luckily had my phone mic running.

Tech knobeadry aside, our vile conversation made me feel a lot better about the scorn I regularly spray in Griggs direction because once again he has proved that he has something remarkable and undefined where his should should be.

And in this episode I think we possibly find out the genesis of his bland penchant for unfeelingness. Enjoy it, if that is the right word. Which it isn't.

    Heyo my loves

I present to thee a nice solo catch up I recorded in my car over 2 seperate sittings. I know I am a week off the pace again, sorry. But I am dropping two more eps before the month ends so my heart is still true. In this episode I am telling you about all the little plans that are growing in my pod-world. It's quite exciting I tell thee. There's also a 'Cliff-Riff', which is insinuating absolutely nothing and some gentle coastal sounds to play you out.

    By the way-

I have decided to turn off Patreon billing for the month of April, just to give me the option of doing some catch up stress free during my birthday month. Yes that's right, uncle Ma'am becomes a half centurion on 23rd April.

I will likely still post a few bits but I have got to get the next phase of SHC lined up.

    Hey You Smashing Persons...

Something a little different today. As you all know, since I moved to Brighton a year ago, I have been busking, playing live music gigs, meeting and collaborating with all kinds of musicians, which has made me very happy. This uptick in musical energy has also given rise to my Patreon Only Bonus Podcast Series 'The Busking Chronicles', a chatty pod where I interview musicians who are hustling to make a a bit of a living from their love of playing music. We tend to chat for around 40 mins and then strum a few tunes out together. It's cute. It's kind of for my patreons only so if you if you want to check out a few eps, just join my patreon and have a squizz.

Anyway now and then I like to drop a hint of my bonus stuff in the wild to tempt new Stupid Hearted folk in to our little community. So, today I am dropping an edited, slightly rough, audio edit of the first ever Stupid Hearts Club music night, which took place at the Bees Mouth bar in Hove in late November. It was a gorgeous evening with some amazing performances and lots of laughter.

Have a listen and perhaps consider coming down to the next one on Thursday March 28th again at the Bees Mouth, Hove. A truly excellent little music bar full of mad shit, long haired, gentle staff and amusing toilet decor.

Or if you live far away, why not consider how I could come to your area and put a similar night on (you would obvs have to help me find some acts near you, but it would be fun right? And allows me to get on the road which is going to becoming more of how I approach Stupid Hearts Club in 2024-

Anyway, hope you enjoy the recording....

    SHC 4Eva

PS - Am dropping a lovely ep of my other bonus series 'Tea and Empathy' soon so stay tuned

Once in a while, a man comes along that is so full of wisdom, panache, and depth of character  that were he to pass you in the street, you would immediately hear a montage of echoey-whispers all going 'who is he?...who is he?...who is he?....who is he?......all overlapping each other and fading out...out...out.

My latest guest, is no such man.

'Mysterious Albert' is a fellow tired ageing comedy writer, whose name I say out loud literally immediately in the intro to this episode. However he has just texted me in a paranoid wheel-spin asking that I do not put his name in print so that he can speak freely and with reckless abandon, which he doesn't do anyway. This has rather amused me, so he shall now forever be...whisper it....Mysterious Alberts, Albert, Albert..........

    Shhhhhhhhh

    Enjoy the episode.....

Hey all you lovers out there-

SELF-LOVERS that is. See where I'm going with this? Yes, it's valentines day and Uncle Seaside is here in a big grimy coat carrying a large fish in a stripey plastic bag to tell you that he loves you all very much. This episode ends up being about Self Love which I believe is the key to being open to all the other sorts of love, so give yourself a lil pat on the bum today if nobody else is going to do that to you. Also don't do that to anyone else 'to cheer them up' unless you are already in a mutually bum'pattin type relationship with them otherwise it is NOT OKAY.

I warble on about some music stuff in this ep too just cos there's a lot of it about at the moment. There are two events to look out for if it is possible for you to travel for a bit of live SHC music action- One for Northerners and one for Southerners,

Firstly I will be playing (solo) a meaty set of indie covers before Oasis Supernova on Saturday 24th of Feb at Square Chapel Arts Centre in Halifax. Come along if you are nearby (or overkeen and far away)

Secondly the third Stupid Hearts Club presents....Love, Lols and Heartache...will be on March 28th at The Bees Mouth in Hove, and will feature emerging local talent Crimson, who is ace, and one well established Indie artist that I shan't name until it is defo confirmed-

Come along and talk loudly into my face about how it's weird meeting a podcast in human form. (it is)

    Enjoyyyyyy

    Dearest sweethearts.

I have maked a really fun classic SHC episode for you this week chatting to much-more successful-than-me comedy actor and all round diamond Kiell Smyth-Bynoe.  This lad has been getting his adorable boat race around the tellybox for the last few years and he is great company as well as a seriously natty dresser. Here I get the inside track on his career so far, swap misty-eyed bants about the deep fun of improvising with funny people and talk about the edge and stress that comes with weird egoic success being followed by fallow periods and tumbleweed. All of this gold (AU) is spread on a comedy base we set early on and lean into a little too hard following one passing mention of the periodic table.

    Darlings!

I am so excited to release this episode of Stupid Hearts Club, which I made with easily the most intensely informed man I have ever gone deep into the woods with. George Fredenham also know as Flavour Fred (find him on Insta) is an absolute goldmine of knowledge on mushrooms, wild food, foraging and the history and mythology of a world of flavours that blows my mind every time we talk. He's also a straight up dude, and great company. This episode sees us go from being a bit pissed at lunch, to chilled at my gaff and then magically appearing in a cold but beautiful forest glade. You are going to love Fred, and you are going to be hearing more from us both.

PS - A bonus full length version of the Forest Walk audio from the end of this ep, will be posted on Patreon as exclusive content early next week. Don't miss it, come in and sample some of my other members only delights.

    Much love and Mushrooms

At last, dreadful little lice-playground and morality vaccuum Alistair Griggs and I have created a follow up worthy of the Christmas Special we did back in 2018 for our first podcast 'Sick Minds' (Which is still out there in the podiverse)....

In this fetid long awaited sequel little Alistair seems to have convinced himself that he can somehow topple his master (Me) with predictable but still amusing consequences- We then try and put the issue of Christmas to bed to give you all a fucking break from the most hellish social obligations of the year and go on to discuss many foul non-festive things-

And then....well... ....Then we enter a conversation that is amongst the finest I have ever had with Alistair, when he produces a computer games magazine that contains a letter written by his 13 year old self...What follows is analysis of the Griggsian... character that neither of us planned, or has yet processed.

Unlike fucking Christmas, you will not to miss this one.

Love and dark-light to you all my pretty hens

    -------------------

Before I start trying to justify the utter carnage that is this episode, I feel I owe you lovely people an apology for not delivering a pod since the 5th of December. As it goes I've got about 6 episodes recorded but I have been unwell and in a really spaced out zone the last couple of weeks, and my daily notes to myself about editing and posting ended up lost in a rotating list of shit that I haven't not even vaguely managed to do.

However, by the time the year ends there will be a wonderful bonus Patreon episode of Tea and Empathy with a lady called Denise, who is a therapist, but on a more conversational friendly level instead of as a taster of therapy. I have also rescued and embellished the amazing Griggs conversation I had the other week but messed up. That means that you will be getting a Griggs special Christmas episode, that I promise you is fucking hilarious.

Now back to this absolute fucking shambles. Every single time I have attempted to do a remote podcast with Miles Chapman, he has forgotten that he needs to be wearing headphone (and ideally is speaking into a proper mic), so that my voice does not come echoing out of the speakers at his end. And everytime I point it out and get frustrated he gets annoyed with me (as if it's my fault) to the point where it sounds like he might cry.

Luckily nothing in this world, makes me happier than hearing Miles getting angry at something that is his own doing, and actually in some ways it is the only feeling I am still able to access in this cess-pool of a world. So please revel in the joy of the first few minutes of this shamefullly, hate-filled dirge. For the record I actually had to send the sound files to be cleaned up by AI, and what is left is still a bit annoying. Look out for the sudden laptop scratchy noises towards the end for example. I honestly give up.

    Still, enjoy the madness.

    Captain Seaside,

Trigger warning: We talk about gruesome ways we would kill each other at the end and it is absolutely fine if you decide to bail out at that point.

OG Stupid Hearts Club listeners are in for a deeply awkward treat this week (while new listeners will be forgiven for wondering what the hell is going on) as I finally breach the walls of Herr Grigg's mountain retreat and take dinner with our fetid friend and is absolute firecracker of a long-term partner 'Helen' (actually called Lauren). Alistair I was amused to find out absolutely loathes having guests, which left me no choice but to make him as uncomfortable as possible. Mission accomplished.

I want it to be known that after our meal (no dessert or starter but thank you Helen) Alistair dutifully cleared our plates while Helen and I threw our heads back and chuckled cruelly. It's all he knows bless him.

Please enjoy the episode, I know I did.

    Hello sods

Please enjoy this really funny funster episode of Stupid Hearts Club with hilarious voiceoverer and comedy actor Charlotte Morgan. We met in a moody little cafe in Hastings and sat upstairs in the bit where people who don't like people go and sit to hiss at each other during their horrible day out that both of them ruin by sniping at each other and then drinking too much.

Charlotte and I tried to keep that spirit up by talking to each other with a lack of respect bordering on toxic, and the result, I'm sure you will agree, is lots of fun.

This episode was slightly hampered by an SD card getting full and me being too much of a grandpa to know how to cope with it. I think we lost about 12 mins of golden bants, but at least you have this!

In the last few days I have also recorded with Griggs (also includes some SD card bollocks, but still got some good stuff) Miles Chapman, who's audio was as shit as it always is, and a lovely lady called Jillian, who joined me for an episode of Tea and Empathy.

Lot's of stuff lined up for you all so keep on listening and please don't be shy to comment or inbox/insta about the SHC world , I love hearing from you all

    Awwwwoooooogaaaa

    Nico
