  • Teen "chilling" is a universal need, but how it looks depends on who you are. Family dynamics determine how chilling looks like. Culture and Gender roles might influence the type of chilling. Socioeconomic background can impact location, with wealthier teens chilling in exclusive spaces and others finding solace in public areas. Belle and I talked about chilling through different lens, and we learned that ultimately, chilling is a diverse experience shaped by individual circumstances. For teenagers, learning how to chill is a great skill to learn.

  • What do you think are the things that teenagers want to do but can't do?

Teenage years are often defined by "not-yets" No driving, no late nights, or no independence. But what if that feeling extends beyond curfew and car keys? What if the "not-yets" of adolescence morph into full-on roadblocks, preventing teens from pursuing their passions, exploring their identities, oreven leaving school?

On the other hand, we also have teenagers who want to go to school but can’t.

Join us as we unpack the frustrations, complexities, and hidden possibilities of teenage limitations who want to drop out of school. This isn't just about complaining about curfews – it's about questioning the systems, structures, and expectations that might be holding teens back.

  • Today, we have a special guest Dr. Nikki Eriksen, a Child andAdolescent Psychotherapist joining us today to tackle a topic that resonates deep within us all: the silent cries of teenagers.

Yes, you read that right. We're not talking about the loudoutbursts, the slammed doors, or the eye rolls. We're venturing into the quiet corners of a teenager's world, where tears fall unseen, unheard, and often misunderstood.

Think back to your own teenage years. Remember those momentswhen the weight of the world seemed to press down, emotions swirled in a confusing storm, and the only release was a silent cry into your pillow?

For many teenagers today, that experience remains eerily similar.

But here's the thing: those uncried tears hold immense power. They speak volumes about the pressures, anxieties, and vulnerabilities that young people face today. They're a call for understanding, for connection, for a world that acknowledges their silent struggles.

In this episode, we explored the hidden landscape of these uncried tears. We delved into the reasons behind these silent sobs, the impact they can have, and most importantly, what we can do to create a space where those tears can be seen, heard, and addressed.

So, if you've ever wondered what lies beneath the surface of ateenager's seemingly stoic façade, if you've ever felt the pang of their unspoken pain, or if you simply want to understand the emotional landscape of this complex stage of life, then grab your headphones and join us on this journey.

Because sometimes, the loudest stories are the ones whispered insilence.

  • While it can feel frustrating and confusing, teens acting out and displaying entitlement has more to do with their stage of development and life experiences than deliberate malice. Here are some key factors at play, including Brain Development, Identity Formation, Social Pressures, Unmet Needs and Family Dynamics.

That said, is it really all about your teenage children's attitude though? When it comes to interaction, it's relational and it's a two-way street.

  • Many teenagers often find themselves disliking the idea of being on their own. The adolescent years are marked by a strong desire for social connection and peer acceptance. Being alone can evoke feelings of isolation, boredom, or FOMO (fear of missing out) as they navigate the complex landscape of identity development and social relationships. The need for constant communication and validation from peers is heightened during this phase, making solitude seem undesirable. Whether it's the fear of being left out of social events or the need for constant interaction, the aversion to being on their own is a common sentiment among teenagers, as they seek a sense of belonging and connection in their evolving social circles. But what about Bullying? Discrimination? Mental health difficulties? They drive teenagers to be on their own when their deepest desire are to connect with their peers.

What can you do as parents or as professionals to help?
