  • How happy I was to have found someone in SWFL (and close to me) who actually doesn't do surgeries and only works with people who are choosing NOT to have surgery. I didn't even know regenerative therapy existed as a specialty but it's actually been around for quite awhile as you will hear. Dr. Podesta injected PRP (platelet rich plasma) and hyaluronic acid into my knees in November of 2021 for preventative purposes. I've had 2 previous injections of hyaluronic acid only over the last several years (back in AZ) for lack of cartilage under my kneecaps giving me discomfort and swelling.

  • Joe Hutto is a marathon swimmer who started swimming in his 40's when he noticed a group of "older folks" swimming while he was taking his daughter to swim practice. Joe started with his local Masters Swim group -Masters Swimming is for anyone over 18 who can swim at least the basics of freestyle and wants to swim with an organized group.

    Joe started competing after he got into shape and then went on to marathon swimming. In 1998 he swam The English Channel from England to France, 33Km, in 12 hours and 37 minutes. More recently, Joe swam a 10 mile event along with several others totaling over 21 miles in 2019 and in October of 2020, Joe swam the 19.3Km Swim Around Charleston in 5:43:13 at the age of 68!

    Joe is inspiring at any age and I was interested in learning how his swimming has helped him in various ways. Being part of a community, having goals to attain, taking care of ourselves and having a positive outlook on life are things that can help all of us age well.

  • What an interesting interview with physical therapist and pelvic floor health specialist, Dr. Kimberly Bryant. Kim’s areas of expertise include prevention and wellness, pelvic pain, low back pain, prolapse (pelvic pressure), bowel health, pain with intercourse, incontinence, painful menstrual cycles, and prenatal/postpartum care. Her goal is to empower women to take their wellness into their own hands as they discover their personal healing path.

    This was not a specialty back when I had children and I think even though this is an area that is now more well known, many women still haven't heard of this or know that this is available. Even lower back issues can be traced to pelvic issues so be sure to reach out to Kim or someone with her training to help you - no matter your age (older or younger) because many times problems happen long after having children and not necessarily immediately post-partum.

    Dr. Bryant earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from A.T. Still University in Mesa, AZ in 2009. Barbie successfully carried and raised two children and is now able to coach and mentor young children without the use of their arms. Barbie is an avid dancer and she also stays fit by running, swimming and lifting weights. She also trains with a personal trainer she loves.

    When I learned about Barbie and her story I just had to meet her and ask her to bless us with her heart, her grit and her determination. How many of us would NOT dare to blow thru limitations because of our inner (mental) stories. Barbie is an incredible example of resilience and I am so grateful that she was willing to meet a complete stranger in person. ;-) She has inspired me so much and I now find myself thinking that I give up too easily!   • Please join me as I interview Daniella (Dani) Campoy who found out she had stage 3C colon cancer two months after completing her fastest Ironman event. Learn about her story, her amazing attitude to keep training thru chemo, and her inspirational message to listeners.

    Colon Cancer has been increasing in rate, especially among younger people. Most guidelines indicate getting a colonoscopy at age 50- however Dani was only 45 when she was diagnosed the first time. Dani had no family history and leads a very healthy lifestyle.

  • Please join me for this interview with coach and aging athlete, Jon Adamson. Jon is a widely-known and very well-liked age group athlete and coach in Atlanta and the Southeast. He and his wife Jo have been personal friends for many years (since the late 90's) and I was so excited that Jon was willing to be interviewed.

    Jon retired from GNB Technologies as the COO in 1997 after a long career in Corporate America. He had started dabbling in triathlons back in 1982 and after his retirement he was able to focus more on improving his times and winning. Jon has won 5 - 70.3 World Triathlon Championships (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012); he ranked top 5 at the Ironman World Championships in Kona -6 of 10 years between 1993-2003, winning 1st -once and second place- twice; he competed at the ITU World Championships more than 10 times where he won twice and was top 3 numerous times; Jon has won 10 of 15 USAT National Age Group Championships; he was the USAT Grand Master of the Year (2003, 2007, 2012); and he was first in AG (age group) at the Xterra World Championships in 2017 where he was also the first 80 year old to complete that course!!

    Jon started coaching in 1999 and he is an inspiration to many, including me and my husband. I hope you enjoy this episode.
