It’s pretty evident that humans aren’t faithful. We look at spiritual giants of the Bible Abraham, Moses, David and see them go astray. We look around at our culture and see people not keeping their promises either in business or relationships. We peek into our own hearts and see the same thing. How does God deal with all this unfaithfulness? In a surprising way. Tune in to hear Dr. James Boice talk about God’s faithfulness to his people, this week on The Bible Study Hour.

Salvation is impossible. But over and over we see that what is impossible with man is possible with God. This applies to the salvation of the Jewish people. It is also true for each of us individually. We have no room for arrogance because our own salvation comes completely by the grace of God and not because of who we are.

Perhaps the most often-asked question concerning the Christian faith is why a loving God permits the tragedy we see around us. Or, even more to the point, why a loving God not only allowed, but ordered men, women and children to be put to the sword as the Israelites entered the Promised Land. Join Dr. James Boice next time on The Bible Study Hour as he redirects the question and approaches the issue from God’s perspective.

Salvation cannot be lost. But many presume upon God’s grace without ever recognizing their need for a Savior or putting their faith in Christ. Paul speaks a strong warning to those who assume that God has chosen them because of who they are, rather than what Christ has done for them.

We normally think of jealousy as bad. The Bible warns us against coveting and envying our neighbor. But can jealousy be good? Paul talks about a redemptive jealousy that ends in the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. While we should never be jealous of those around us, we should strive to make them long for what we have saving grace.

God has blessed us immeasurably. But if we don’t become disciples of Jesus and set our hearts to honor him, then these very blessings will become curses. If we misuse what God has given us, it becomes harmful to us. God is looking for much more than outward rituals. He wants our hearts.

Two things should characterize a Christian more than anything else. One is a deep sense of our unworthiness and sin. The other is an even deeper sense of the grace of God. The Bible calls us dead in sin it doesn’t get much worse than that. But by the grace given through Jesus Christ, he makes us alive to follow him.
