Belonging uncertainty sounds like:
I don't know if this is my place, my thing, my peeps, or my favorite, my "vibe." It's what we tell ourselves when we feel uncertain about our belonging. It's always a good idea to notice when you are in the middle of expereincing belonging uncertainty because #SelfAwareness.
It's a great reminder that we always have a choice to deliberatelty not add ourselves into situations where we feel like we don't belong to preserve and protect our nervous systems, or to conciously add ourselves with the desire to take up all the space. The important thing to remember is we have the choice.
Now hears the rub. It's called limininty and it feels like a belonging vacuum devoid of connection, love and humantity. This is quite literally "the space between"
It is what "Ni de aqui ni de alla" feels like. It stinks.
This episode is about understanding spaces of liminity, making sure you know that that crappy feeling you are so familiar with is acknowledged here and now and offers a way through.

"Belonging Uncertainty is the state of mind in which one suffers from doubts about whether one is fully accepted in a particular environment or ever could be. We can experience it in the workplace, at school, at a snooty restaurant, or even in a brief social encounter." - Greg Walton and Jeff Cohen

Have you ever wondered why you seem to understand exactly how some people literally think while at the same time you feel the way others think is just foreign to you? Much of the conflict we see today can be understood in the context of ideological dominance or the passed-down and deeply engrained belief systems in which we see the world. That's a mouthful! Instead of reading about it here, take a listen to this episode and see if you can relate more with Denise or with her hubby the #gringocowboy - by the end you'll know on what side of this ideological conversation you fall and at the very least, you'll understand why you don't see eye-to-eye with some people and why you feel so seen and understood by others. Our hope is that by understading the way we see the world, we can be intentional about supporting all people to feel like they belong.

This episode is what we call a "Field Episode" because the content has been captured outside of our studio. We're sharing it with you so that you can get a feel of how intimate and powerful the Q+A's are after people watch our film.
If you're a first gen you're probably familiar with putting your own feelings on the back burner. It's important to talk about your experience (even if you feel guilty) because this is a shared experience which means you're not alone. That in the wake of the tragic murder of George Floyd, an opening was created that invited nuanced storytelling from marginalized communities to come in and add to the collective narrative. Authentic storytelling is one of the more powerful ways we connect to our own sense of belonging. A shared ideology called collectivism unites people across ethnic groups and that awareness pulls us together in arguably the most polarizing of times.
Key takeaways are:Thank you to the Botanic Gardens of Denver who hosted a screening of being eñye (scroll down for screener link) and this powerful conversation.

The concept of bringing your "whole self to work" is becoming increasingly popular, but what if you don't feel like that's going to fly in your workplace?
More importantly, what if it doesn't feel safe?
This is a common feeling for so many people, especially those with a collective-dominant background which prioritizes the group over the individual. In this episode, we'll dive into the specific ideological differences between Latinos and the dominant (self-reliant) culture, and why this can lead to a conflict of belief systems and values at work.
In this episode, we dive in to the "shallow end" of the ideological pool and begin to explore why conflicting ideological backgrounds is one of the biggest sources of feeling like we don't belong - especially in professional environments.
By taking responsibility for the way we see the world, we can begin to understand (and embrace) the singular perspectives that guide our personal and professional identities.
Join us as we begin to delve into these ideas and how they have the power to create or destroy belonging.

In this episode of our podcast, we dive into the topic of how to create belonging from a leadership position. I’ll warn you that the tactics she shares sound deceptively simple and the power they have to create belonging could easily be underestimated. We challenge you to activate at least one of Denise’s suggestions here and let us know how it worked!
Denise shares what happened when she went to visit Gary Vee at his office that she’d never experienced before or since that instantly created belonging. She also shared three unconventional takeaways specifically for leaders and how they can create belonging:
1. Make your employees feel welcome and at home from the moment they walk in the door, like they're walking into someone's living room. Leaders have the power to create or destroy belonging in these moments.
2. Become an "Over Introducer" and make an effort to make the new person in the group feel seen and valued. When introducing them, be sure to share something unique about that person, so that the rest of the group knows how special they are to you.
3. Be honest about what you love and appreciate about the people that work for you, it's a huge motivator for them to keep working for you, and it doesn't cost you anything.
Join us for this episode as we explore the topic of how to create belonging in the workplace and how leaders can make a positive impact on their employees.
