Hour 1 - Spencer Schwellenbach continues to shine on the biggest stages
On this Wednesday edition of The Morning Shift, Tiffany Blackmon, Mike Johnson, and Beau Morgan kicked off the show by reacting to the Atlanta Braves getting a huge 5-1 win over the New York Mets last night thanks to another great outing from Spencer Schwellenbach, another big night from Michael Harris, and another Marcell Ozuna home run. Tiffany, Mike, and Beau also let you hear starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach talk about how this is basically the playoffs for the Braves, and react to what he had to say. The Morning Shift crew also lets you hear from Braves Manager Brian Snitker talk about Schwellenbach becoming one of those guys who doesn't surprise him when he pitches so well. Tiffany, Mike, and Beau react to what Snitker had to say as well. Next, The Morning Shift crew continues the opening hour by previewing the Georgia Bulldogs big matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Tiffany, Mike, and Beau let you hear Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart talk about where he sees improvement in Carson Beck and how there’s no simulation when preparing for Jalen Milroe. On this edition of In The Huddle Tiffany, Mike and Beau let you hear Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin explain why there’s no need for him to name a starting quarterback right now, and The Morning Shift crew reacts to what Tomlin had to say as well. Then, Tiffany, Mike, and Beau also talk about how former Atlanta Falcons Head Coach and now Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn is trying to make sure his rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels doesn’t start “seeing ghosts” after a nice performance against the Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey going to see a specialist in Germany to get his achilles evaluated. Tiffany Blackmon, Mike Johnson and Beau Morgan kick off the final hour by spending some time with former Alabama and Georgia Assistant Coach Scott Cochran! Tiffany, Mike, Beau, and Scott talk about if Alabama vs. Georgia is a rivalry, that moment when he first got the call from Nick Saban to join his coaching staff and what the transition was like going from working for the Hornets to working for Nick Saban at Alabama, not leaving Alabama with Kirby Smart like he originally planned to do when Kirby got the Georgia job, his infamous “they’re wearing black because they’re going to a funeral” line and what Saban said to him after he heard about it, and his past struggles with addiction and how he’s helping others who are battling addiction as well. Tiffany, Mike and Beau continue this Wednesday edition of The Morning Shift by spending some time with Auday NFL insider and analyst Brian Baldinger. Tiffany, Mike, Beau, and John discuss what kind of mindset the Braves have to have going into this series against the Mets to not press, but at the same time play their best, what John wants to see from Spencer Schwellenbach tonight, and what it will take for him to get the job done, what the mindset of Brian Snitker should be tomorrow with Chris Sale on the mound and if there should be any concerns with fatigue with Chris Sale tomorrow as well, why Matt Olson has had long slumps at times this season and how he’s been able to turn it around as of late, John’s favorite memories of big games against the Mets and the Mets and Braves’ rivalry, having a do or die series like the Braves have with the Mets at home, the key to performing well in big moments, and how John Smoltz would pitch to Shohei Ohtani.
