  • I’m thrilled to welcome back Jeffrey Shaw—one of my most popular guests! This is his third time on the show, and for good reason. I first heard him speak at PPA’s Imaging USA, and he completely blew me away. Now, five years later, he is just releasing “Sell To The Rich”, and he shares so many great insights from this book. He also has 2 other amazing books in case you want more Jeffrey.

From humble beginnings, Jeffrey became one of the top portrait photographers in the U.S., with work featured on Oprah, CBS News, People Magazine, and displayed at Harvard University. He’s a speaker, author, business coach, TEDx presenter, and founder of The Self-Employed Business Institute.

So guess what? Luxury sales is not just about raising prices, having a fancy website, or advertising to wealthy people.

Jeffrey breaks down why selling to the rich is more about mindset than money. He shares why luxury is a way of being, how personal growth plays a role in sales, and why success starts with your own belief in value.

    Listen for these key takeaways:

Luxury isn’t just a price point—it’s an experience.Your real competition isn’t other photographers.Judgment will cost you sales.“Clean energy” is essential. Confidence, clarity, and authenticity are what attract high-end clients. You need to embody luxury yourself. To sell the experience, you have to understand what it feels like.

His book is now available for presale early March 2025! Go to his website to be one of the first to get your hands on it jeffreyshaw.com

  • Okay, photographers—real talk. What happens to your business if life throws you a curveball? Whether it’s an unexpected emergency or the day you finally decide to retire to a beach with endless piña coladas, your business needs a plan. I know this isn’t something many of us think about or even want to talk about, right?

This week, I’m chatting with Mike Price, who knows a lot about this. After helping a fellow photographer navigate the process of closing his business after a stroke, Mike made it his mission to bring awareness and practical advice to photographers. Our conversation dives into what to consider and how to start planning, so your business doesn’t just disappear if you ever have to step away.

Mike is a photographer and all-around business prep guru. After spending 20+ years in IT, he built Fairfield Photography, specializing in sports, high school seniors, executive portraits, and commercial architecture. He has also created a detailed workbook, Quit Like a Pro, to help photographers and their families prepare for emergencies or business transitions.

    He recommends that we:

    • Prepare: Keep track of passwords, accounts, and business assets (no, sticky notes don’t count).

    • Practice: Regularly check and update your emergency or business transition plan.

    • Execute: Have trusted people in place so your business doesn’t fall apart overnight.

    • Communicate: Don’t let your family, clients, or business partners guess what to do next.

Not to worry—this isn’t about quitting. It’s about being smart, protecting your legacy, and keeping your business strong, no matter what happens.

And Mike has a special gift just for my listeners to help you get started! Visit PhotographersToolbox.com/luci.

  • Hello and Happy New Year! This has been one of the MOST popular episodes so I thought it would be a great one to start out 2025. Here we go….Magic is real. Thoughts have power.

In this repeat episode I am going FULL Woo Woo and talk about the power we have to become a magnet for success, attracting what we want in life, both big and small. The secret powers we have to manifest things like great photography clients, relationships, abundance, even a pair of the perfect sunglasses. (Listen for the tale of lost the sunglasses).

I often touch on this subject in my other podcasts and decided to go for it and claim my truth…that this stuff works (TSW) and that I use it all the time.

If the woo woo, or calling it the power of the Universe or God or a spiritual teacher is not your thing, you can call it awareness or accessing our own genius. Whatever you call it, my experience is that it is real, that actions combined with these manifesting principles go hand in hand to create the life we desire.

In this episode of The Profitable Photographer I share my perspective and experiences through:

fun stories about my small miraclesreference books and teachers on the topictools like affirmations and visualizationsthe principles of the laws of attractionwhere this teaching came from historicallythe importance of positive energy/vibration and how to raise it

And how there is a loving and creative force always listening to our desires and ready to bring us what we want and that the more clear we are, the faster these things can come our way.

I am visualizing this episode being the perfect one for you right now, whether you have been on team “Law of Attraction” or this is new for you. Because you deserve to have all good things in your life!!

  • Hey, it's Luci Dumas, and today’s solo episode is a little different because I am sort of “journaling” about my experiences around the topic and looking for my own answers as I explore a topic that’s been on my mind lately: motivation. Specifically, how we can find it, sustain it, and even question whether we always need it. Is it okay to just be sometimes? To live a simpler life without constantly striving for the next big thing? It's a big question, and one that I’ve been pondering deeply.

As I thought about motivation, I kept coming back to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. You might remember it from a psychology class—it’s that pyramid of five human needs. It got me wondering: can understanding these levels help us reignite our drive when it feels like the spark is fading?

In this episode, I break down each level of Maslow’s pyramid:

    • The basics like food and shelter.

    • Our need for safety and security.

    • The desire for connection and belonging.

    • Building self-esteem and feeling accomplished.

    • And finally, the quest for self-actualization—living our best, most fulfilling life.

I’ll share some thoughts on how these needs might be influencing your motivation—or lack of it. Plus, we’ll tackle that ever-present voice saying, “I should be doing more,” and decide if it’s always true. Spoiler: sometimes it’s okay to give yourself grace.

Some of the ideas on how to become or stay motivated I explore are suggestions to

    • Identify the Blockages:

    • Set Goals Aligned with Your Needs:

    • Reflect and Reassess:

    • Leverage Higher Levels for Inspiration

Tune in for a mix of self-reflection, practical tips, and maybe even a spark to get you motivated—or at least, to help you feel okay with where you are right now.

  • In today’s episode, I’m thrilled to chat with Amy Posner, a true trailblazer in the world of online business and coaching. Amy has built six thriving businesses (five are still going strong!) and empowered thousands of freelancers to find their footing and flourish. She shares insights from her course, Complete Breakthrough Freelancer, and her experience as co-host of Business Badassery.

Find out why she says it’s not them, it’s you….what you are doing that is keeping you from achieving your dreams.

In our chat, we get into the good stuff:

    • How to attract and keep ideal clients by building genuine relationships

    • How to bring business skills up to the level of your creative ones (the real key to six figures and beyond!)

    • Creating value for clients before they even see a price tag

    • Seeing your clients as partners, so they know they’re in good hands

    • Moving beyond a six-figure income as the ultimate goal to find what truly drives your success

Amy and I are “kindred spirits” and clicked instantly, and I couldn’t help but wish she lived closer so we could keep these conversations going!

Enjoy this conversation filled with so many tips for being super successful doing what you love

And reach out to her here to ask a question or learn about her course and podcast.
