  • Liam Adams continues to perform at the highest level and race out of his skin when competing for Australia at the major championships, with one of the most courageous and ballsy efforts we've ever witnessed when attacking early off the front over at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Liam had learnt from previous race experiences against the East Africans, that allowing them to control the race with a fartlek type style of racing, would only lessen his chances of a good result. Liam was confident that settling into an early fast rhythm that was sustainable for the distance, would set himself up for his best performance on the day and throw a cat among the pigeons for the Africans. Liam gritted it out like he always does and was closing in on the runner in third spot with the gap to the bronze medal narrowing with every stride as they neared the finish line but unfortunately ran out of real estate and finished seven seconds behind in fourth. Liam is already thinking about the road to Paris in two years times that would see him pull on the marathon green and gold singlet for his third consecutive Olympic Games to match his Comm Games record. Liam is one of the most successful runners and athletes Australia has had, and will no doubt comfortably break the 2:10 barrier in the months to come to make his spot on the Australian Olympic Team non-discretionary! All the best Liam:)

  • Louis McAfee was excited to be finally lacing up for his debut marathon on the Gold Coast after the cancellation of last year's race only a few days out due to a three day lockdown to mitigate the spread of Covid. Louis had an injury free marathon prep and a solid half marathon result in Noosa 5 weeks earlier running a 64:51 and was ready to finally convert all the training load into the marathon performance he knew he was capable of as well as answering all the internal and external questions that come attached with a debut marathon performance. Louis ended up executing a fine running performance finishing 4th in 2:17:43, superb! Juggling the responsibities of full-time work and a family, Louis will continue to work away at improving on his running capabilities with the goal of running a Sub 2:15 in his next outing. All the best Louis, we have your back mate.

  • Tim Vincent is in the fourth year of a Clinical Exercise Physiology Degree, and like most elite runners in Australia, is juggling the training load that's required to maintain his position as one of the talented distance runners we currently have in the country with study and or work requirements. Tim represented Australia at the World University Cross Country Championships in Portugal in March this year finishing a very respectable 9th in very challenging conditions and then went on to win the 10000mtr Oceania Championships in a humid Mackay in June. Tim has won and podiumed in many road races throughout Australia over the last couple of years and all indicators are that he will continue to do so. Tim has a busy few months ahead of him, starting with the Sydney 10k tomorrow, July 24th, then a couple of national road races before heading back overseas to race a torturous, lung and leg busting Red Bull 400 event and have another crack at the Copenhagen Half in September that he raced back in 2019. Tim is a switched on Brisbane Boy that knows what he wants, and I don't believe he will allow anything to get in his way from achieving his running aspirations. Great chat with a great guy, all the best Tim!

  • Aidan Hobbs is a very capable and versatile runner that has been on the rise for a couple of years now. Running 15 of the last 28 consecutive City2Surf's dressed as Superman is maybe where the extra strength lies. Since running 44:36 and finishing 9th at the 2019 City2Surf, Aidan has gone on to run a personal best on the track from the 800mtrs to the 10000mtrs including the 3000mtr steeplechase and on the road from the 10k to the Marathon where he recently ran a superb 2:20 on the Gold Coast improving on the 2:23 ran there in 2019. Aidan decided, maybe lured by the prize purse and offerings, to back up and defend his title in the gruelling 30k Brisbane Trail Ultra the following weekend. Aidan was on track, pun intended, in defending his title before encountering a few traffic and direction issues that bled enough time to cost him the race where he finished in second place. At the age of 35, Aidan is in the middle of a BIG purple patch that is probably better referred to as an "acreage" than a patch. Aidan, with the support of his wife Peta, will proceed to juggle the responsibilities of full time work and three young children to continue his upwards trajectory on the performance graph that will allow him to better his personal bests over the distances. With his commitment to hard work, professionalism and being surrounded by a great team, all is possible! Best of luck Aidan.

  • Michael is a chippy from Canberra who decided after a few years away from running, where he had competed in the 8 and 1500mtr along with national cross country, would try his hand at the road marathon discipline. Mick ran his first marathon in Melbourne 2013 running a 2:52 setting up a pattern of substantially lowering his finishing time over the following 4 years with the end result being a 2:30 on the Gold Coast in 2017. Mick maintained his strength and interest in running by training and competing on the trails in marathon and ultra marathon distances where he consistently performed at the highest level and was often spotted standing on the podium at post race presentations. One of Micks better performances was a 5th place at 6ft track in 2018 running a 3:33 and backing up with a 2nd at the UTA50. With a 2:27 just ran on the Gold Coast, Mick has his sights set on lowering that time in Melbourne come October and working towards that Sub 2:20 barrier that only a talented few will ever experience, all the best Mick.

  • Rorey was born in Western Australia, grew up in Far North Queensland before moving to Brisbane where his running career started to blossom. At 6'1 he enjoyed playing AFL and basketball but with the encouragement of his high school running coach he ventured down the pathway that led him to the world class 1500mtr runner he is today. Rorey followed the footsteps of many great international runners and picked up a degree whilst running for Indiana University within the US college scholarship scheme over a 5yr period of 2012 to 2017. On his return he decided to move to the nations capital to carry out his masters in physiotherapy and to train with Australia's most renowned running coach Professor Dick Telford. After being diagnosed with an accessory soleus muscle a few years back that had been causing grief over that time, Rorey decided upon surgery last November in the hope that it will enable him to put down some consistent months of training and racing that will enable him to pick up an Aussie singlet in the World Champs at Eugene, Oregon in July and/or the Commonwealth Games hosted in Birmingham, England in August. Rorey has all the tools needed to represent his country on the biggest stage so lets all cross our fingers and wish for the stars to align so another Aussie runner gets to perform where they deservedly belong due to years of hard work, discipline and belief, All the best mate!

  • Ed Goddard did not let go of the dream of representing Australia at a Major Championship and running one of the fastest marathons by an Australian, when he suffered a fracture of his calcaneus at the beginning of the year. He set out and made it a priority of surrounding himself with a great support team of friends and health professionals that would enable him to maintain a high level of fitness through cross training and rehabilitation that enabled him to return to running at a high level as fast as possible. Ed spontaneously travelled back to race the Cross Country for IONA College (New York) after a marathon specific session showed very good signs of strength and fitness. That sense of fitness proved true when he qualified in Boston for the Nationals in Florida over the 10k distance. Ed flew back home after his brief 2 week race/taper period that prepared him for his debut marathon. Ed went on to run one of the fastest marathons on debut by an Australian on Australian soil 2:15:13 and has certainly proved his ability to not only absorb the high volume of marathon training but the rigors of racing road marathons on the mind and body. Ed is feeling confident that he has a few minutes up his sleeve with a couple of more months of training in his legs. Really looking forward to watching Ed chase his goal of picking up an Aussie singlet or two at the majors next year and chasing that 2:11:30 marathon qualifying standard in February 2022. All the best Ed!

  • Kieren Tall has been consistently racing at the pointy end on the track and road for a couple of years now but this year has stepped up onto the highest position of the podium with his win at the Sydney 10 in May and NSW state titles in the 5000mtrs in Feb and 3000mtrs just a couple of nights ago at SOPAC. Kieren was one of the Nations top junior triathletes but after competing at the World Junior Cross Country Championships in Uganda, he soon realised where his true passion and future lay. Kieren is highly focused on running faster on the track with the aim of competing for Australia at the majors in the coming years whilst picking up a contract that will allow him to reach the highest potential possible as an athlete and as an ambassador for the sport. Kieren is chasing his dreams on and off the track that's going to be an exciting story to watch unfold, all the best Tally.

  • Liam Adams passage to his first Olympics in Rio 2016 was certainly filled with lots of barriers that he just managed to hurdle on the very last day of the qualification period. To say the Tokyo 2020 qualification was a lot easier would be far from accurate, when Liam's first attempt of running the 2:11:30 required time on the Gold Coast in 2019 fell short by just 6 seconds. Having the disappointment of the 2016 Lake Biwa DNF result in his mind when his hamstring failed, Liam was determined to make sure he did what ever was needed to make this one count and secure his spot on the Australian Team. With the COVID pandemic just starting to shut down the globe and cause the cancellation of travelling and racing, Liam wasn't fully aware at the time of how huge it was when he crossed the line running a 2:10:48 and earning himself the number one spot on the Australian team and running the fastest marathon by an Aussie in 13 years. Liam is as gritty as they come and I'm extremely excited to see how his 2nd Olympic Marathon unfolds along with the other 5 members of the team. All the best Liam, Brett, Jack, Lisa, Sinead and Ellie.

  • Ed Goddard will be spotted running the hilly streets of the North Shore suburb of Mosman, Sydney with phone in hand and his long blonde locks blowing in the wind to the beat of Bob Dylan. Ed has been competing at a very high level since the end of high school and has represented Australia at the junior and senior level on the track and road. With a fantastic end to 2020 with a 62:16 half marathon in Launceston to a brilliant kickstart into 2021 with a 28:23 in January at the Zatopek meet in Melbourne, everything was heading on the correct trajectory, then injury struck! A 3cm fracture to Ed's calcaneus put a hold on the goal of running an Olympic qualifying time for the marathon at the Athletics Australia race in Penrith. Ed maintained his fitness on the bike and in the gym and surrounded himself with great health professionals to enable the return to running as fast and as safely as possible. Ed has a positive, fun and relaxed philosophical approach to his life as much as his running and is finding his feet again for an assault on the world marathon scene in the coming years. A fantastic chat with Ed that I know you will Enjoy!

  • They say you're a product of your environment and Andy is certainly no exception to that rule. Andy grew up in Bendigo and as a child his family holidays were centred around packing up the car and heading off to the next marathon for his parents' to compete in, because that's what all families do right? Andy will be 30 years of age when he toes the line for his first marathon on the Gold Coast in July but he certainly hasn't been sitting around procrastinating about following in his parents' footsteps into the marathon. Andy has won numerous Victorian State Titles on the track and Cross Country as well as the 2017 and 2018 National Cross Country Titles. Just 15 day's after running his 10,000mtr personal best of 28:26 at Zatopek in Melbourne in December 2019, Andy won a half marathon in Japan setting a new personal best of 62:50 and qualifying for the World Half Marathon Championships in Poland 2020 that unfortunately Australia did not attend due to COVID. Andy certainly still has a lot to offer in the shorter distances than the marathon and cross country but it's going to be exciting to watch over the coming years how the transition into the marathon distance unfolds and with 2016 Olympic marathon runner Scott Westcott as his coach I'm betting there's more green and gold singlets being posted to Bendigo in the years to come, a great chat with Andy, Enjoy!

  • Ben decided early on after graduating university in physics that he'd rather be re-writing the record books than reading them. Ben found his niche in running up mountains and technical terrain going on to represent Australia as a junior at two consecutive World Mountain Championships in 2010/11 with podium finishes at the state and national level. It wasn't long before Ben jumped head first into his first 100k and although it wasn't successful, Ben didn't have to wait long before his first win over the distance in Victoria in 2013. Ben continued that form into 2014 where he competed at three world championships over varying distances in Europe and the US with an incredible third place in France at the 80k du Mont Blanc Sky Running World Championships. Since then Ben has been very consistent in his performances winning many races over varied distances and terrain including consecutive Australian Mountain Running Titles and most recently the iconic Six Foot Track Marathon in the incredibly scenic but extremely challenging Blue Mountains. Ben will be competing at the Buffalo Stampede 75k Ultra Marathon next week and then backing up for another assault on the UTA 100k in May where he would love to improve on his previous two second place finishes. A great chat with Ben that I know you will enjoy, thanks Ben!

  • Izzi could not turn down the incredible opportunity of a 4 year scholarship in the US that was offered on the back of numerous national level performances in the Steeplechase and Cross Country in the final years of High School. What started out as a very overwhelming and challenging experience as a freshmen within the college system culminated into the re-writing of record books, becoming an All-American athlete and Pac-12 champion. Izzi found a way to navigate through the woes of being an injured athlete more than once and always came back a stronger and faster runner determined to discover what she was capable of and never setting limitations on her capabilities. Izzi has now stamped her authority and gained much respect as a formidable opponent on the track and road displaying the talent and fight that will lead to the wearing of many Aussie singlets at majors in the years to come. A story of persistence, desire and belief that I know you will enjoy! Thanks Izzi.

  • Josh has been consistently running fast around the oval office for over a decade now and still has the burning desire and belief of bettering his extremely fast 800 and 1500mtr times as well as significantly lowering his 5000 and 10000mtr personal bests. At the age of 28 where most middle distance runners transition into running longer on the roads, JJ is confident under the guidance of his coach Dick Telford that his legs have a lot more to offer on the track before making the jump. I spoke to JJ from Perisher where his doing a short stint of altitude training that has been on the January schedule annually for 15 years in preparation for the National Track and Field Championships in Sydney in April that will be the last chance for athletes to automatically qualify for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. • Sam Hopper is a kiwi that flew the coop, yes Kiwi's are flightless, but not this one when laced up! Hopper jumped - or hopped (sorry) - at the opportunity when the offer to live and train alongside one of Australia's greatest distance runners and Dual Olympian Ben St Lawrence was made mid 2018. Hopper struggled at first whilst regaining his former fitness but through consistent mileage and hard racing for the run crew, some very respectable times have been officially recorded with World Athletics from the 3000mtrs to the half marathon. Hopper now has his sights set on running his first marathon on the Gold Coast this year and is absorbing the extra volume well as he fits his training in around selling shoes at Pace Athletic. At the age of just 26, Hopper has the opportunity for a lengthy marathon career and will no doubt be asserting his presence among the front groups very soon. Hopper is a genuine down to earth guy and really enjoyed the chat as you will too!

  • A fantastic chat with Myles who has his sights set on breaking the 2:20 barrier for the road marathon distance in the near future with the first attempt being the Canberra Marathon in early April, COVID pending. Myles is reasonably new to distance running but wasted no time in showing his speed and endurance capabilities on the road and track after his move to Wollongong a few years back. When Myles is recovering from the heavy training load that is required to run quick over the 42.2km his kept busy as a journalist providing story telling in-depth articles about runners journeys for his on-line magazine "RunCreature". Myles is also providing readers the opportunity to join in on his Sub 2:20 marathon quest with frequent training reports for insight in to what is required in preparing the body for such a demanding goal. • Lisa Weightman has had an incredible lengthy career in distance running to date with a lot more championship racing and personal bests to add to the already crowded running CV. Lisa has competed at multiple World Cross, World Champs, Commonwealth and Olympic Games and is currently looking fairly secure in making her 4th consecutive Olympic Marathon in Tokyo next August. Lisa like all distance runners has had to endure not only the physical trauma of running marathons but also the emotional rollercoaster that is inevitable not only when racing but when the body is unable to cooperate in training. Lisa has juggled representing her country for decades now with working full time and for the past 6 years, being a Mum. Lisa has recently just commenced the next marathon training block in preparation for a potential Olympic Games qualifying marathon next April in Australia with the aim to run a personal best and cement her spot on the Australian marathon team for Tokyo, a great listen. Enjoy!

  • Malcolm Hicks - aka Hicksy - has competed at an elite level on the track and road over all distances for many years and represented New Zealand at the Worlds in Doha last year running the marathon in extremely challenging conditions where he performed extremely well. Hicksy has only ever raced 4 marathons with the first being 2018 Berlin running a 2:16 and the last being a 2:10 in Sevilla in February this year. With the Tokyo Olympic qualifying standard of 2:11:30 set for the marathon, Hicksy is placed in a great position to pick up another black singlet, competing for his country at his first Olympic Games come August next year in Sapporo. A great yarn with a fine runner and top bloke, Enjoy!
