In June 2023, the almost mythical David Kau made a stopover in Nairobi from his world travels, we were able to convince him (*read bribe with golf*) to stick around for a week and in that time, he headlined a show (David Kau Live in Kenya) , facilitated our weekly workshop, took in the city of Nairobi and played a charity gold tourney.
So it only made sense we tied him to the green seat, laced him with Rwandan/ Ethiopian coffee and had one of the most insightful & unfiltered conversations around comedy and life in general.
Big shout out to all our partners across Africa for making this happen.

In this episode we switch up the gears, the host and even languages as we transcend the language bar with Tanzanian superstar, actor, performer and standup comic Neyla Manga.
On her visit to Nairobi Kenya courtesy of the Comedy Pipeline by our brothers and comrades in arms Punchline Comedy Club Tanzania, Neyla sat down with our guest host Shihembetsa, ( because we couldn't afford an interpreter and he is the only man whose Swahili is half decent) to talk all things funny, beginnings, crossing the language barriers in comedy, performing as a female comic and the future of comedy in general.
Get your translator apps out and sink your teeth into the most riveting crash course into Swahili you'll ever experience. -
As we get into Act 3, we realise that our guest on this episode is the spitting image of the host's missus, but with a very impressive repertoire in the comedy world.
Multiaward winning screen writer, radio host for Smile FM , standup comic and pet mum Angel Campey was in Nairobi for our very first instalment of Sets in the Street and she brought amazing luck with her as we finally got sponsors.
The Tribe Hotel Africa's premier world class hotel have continued to support the arts in words and deeds by supporting Punchline Comedy Club Nairobi as our preferred accommodation partners and Mama Rocks the home of gourmet African inspired burgers and big supporters of the art scene in Kenya have also come through for comedy.
Angel speaks to us about comedy roots in South Africa, performing across the world, the barriers, challenges and triumphs of navigating the comedy world and most importantly, how she and Rachel need to get a DNA test... Like, Share & Subscribe to all our content and not STIs... -
Episode 2 sees us welcome our brother from Mzansi/South Africa - Mr Chris Mapane who made time to sit with us during his East Africa tour to Nairobi & Dar es Salaam courtesy of Punchline Comedy Club Tanzania.
Funny on and off stage, Chris Mapane is not only a crowd favourite, he is a comedian's comedian, and this is by no accident. A tactical mastermind, Chris before his arrival in Nairobi, Chris did over 19 hours of research on the city, culture, trends and comedy scene in Kenya.
Experience & talent at its very best, Chris has risen to legend status in the standup spheres having loved and practiced the craft for over 17 years. We talk beginnings, dropping out , check the technique, go over the basics and the future of standup in Africa. -
Trading his wig & gown for the mic, Deo Gratias took the bold step to leave the courtroom drama for the trials and tribulations of comedy.
On his visit to Nairobi through the comedy pipeline between Punchline Comedy Club Nairobi & Punchline Comedy Club Tanzania, Deo takes us through the paces: school days where blackouts saw him perform sets before he even knew that he was doing standup, a chance encounter with a friend introducing him to comedy, first performances, taking risks and rising through the ranks.
An accomplished actor, producer, performer and founder of Watubaki Comedy Club in Tanzania, Deo is undeniably a master of his craft.
