  • Where are we seeing God at work? How is He moving in our child's life? These are the questions we must ask ourselves when we seek to bless our children. God is constantly at work, and when we take the time to notice, we can speak those blessings into their lives.

It's a twofold process: first, we must put our own flesh aside. We must ask for the wisdom to see our children as God sees them—to discern where he is shaping, teaching, and leading them.

This is what we want to teach our children—to anchor their hope in Christ. And one way we do that is by speaking blessings, over and over again, so that they can walk in the fullness of his love and grace.

  • We want to speak words of blessing over our children, but how do we know what to say? To bless a child intentionally, we must first sit with God in prayer. Ask him for insight and to reveal their strengths and weaknesses.

Take time to study your child. Notice where they shine and where they stumble. See the places where they are tempted or challenged. When you know them deeply, you can speak life into the areas that need it most.

Speak blessings over them that are specific to their journey—words that guide them, protect them, and uplift them. God has equipped you to bless them with power and purpose.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. You might be wondering, what does it mean to speak a blessing into your child’s life? At its core, it’s about sharing words of life, truth, and encouragement. Understanding the actual goal behind a blessing can help you put it into practice.

The goal of speaking a blessing is straightforward: it’s not just about who your child is today but who they are becoming through God’s work in their lives. When we bless our children, we are highlighting the gifts and potential that God has placed within them.

As parents, we have a unique opportunity to remind our children of their identity in Christ. We can reflect on 2 Corinthians 3:18, which assures us that God is transforming us. By sharing words of encouragement and affirmation, we help them see that God is actively at work in their lives, shaping them into the people he created them to be.

The next time you sit down with your child, take a moment to share your hopes and prayers for them. Ask them, “What do you think God has planned for you?” This question opens the door for meaningful conversations about their gifts and dreams. Speak into their lives, and let them know that you see the good work God is doing within them.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. As we dive into the fourth part of our Jesus-centered discipline conversations, we focus on blessing. Discipline isn’t just about correction; it’s an opportunity to speak life over our children.

When we ask, “What does God have planned for you?” we’re helping them see beyond their mistakes and into the future God has for them.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that our children are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. So, in moments of discipline, we also get to bless them by calling out the good works and the purpose God has placed within them.

This simple shift, from correction to blessing, transforms the conversation. Speak blessings over your child's life, and watch how God moves in both their heart and yours.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. Bethany is guiding listeners through the final conversation of repentance. Guiding our children through repentance can feel like one of the hardest parts of our role. Some days, it may seem like they resist every nudge toward saying "I'm sorry" or owning up to their mistakes.

But leading these conversations isn’t just about getting them to say the right words—it’s about shaping their hearts and minds to understand the beauty of repentance. Before we can lead our children in repentance, we have to know this truth for ourselves: God’s mercy meets us in our mistakes. Every time we fall short, He is there, calling us back to Him, not with condemnation, but with love.

More than anything, we need to ask God to help us see our children the way he does—with eyes of grace and understanding. This is why we sit in prayer over their lives.

Leading the repentance conversation is more than just teaching our kids how to apologize, it’s about helping them understand God’s heart.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. When our children misstep or hurt someone, it’s more than just saying "sorry." We’re called to help them restore their relationships—not just with the person they hurt, but with God too. This restoration goes far beyond an outward apology. It's about heart transformation.

When Bethany talks about parenting through different ages and stages, she reminds us of the call in Philippians 1:6—the truth that God is working in each of us and that His work isn’t finished. This is the mindset we hold onto, especially in those tough moments with our children.

When their behavior pushes our patience, we resist discouragement. Instead, we believe in the promise that God is still molding them, shaping their hearts, and drawing them closer to his plan.

Rather than focusing on compliance or behavior, we point them to the grace, forgiveness, and love that God offers.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. When it comes to guiding our children, it's easy to fall into guilt, lectures, and the desire for instant compliance. But instead of relying on our own words, we can turn to the truth of God's promises.

Today, Bethany is sharing three anchoring scriptures that help us pray for our children with intention and trust. We pray simple and powerful prayers—asking for forgiveness, trusting in God's kindness to lead them to repentance, and relying on his love to meet them in their weaknesses. Letting go of the desire to lecture can be tough, but there's beauty in handing the conversation back to the Holy Spirit.

These scriptures remind us that God’s grace, patience, and transformative power are the true anchors in our children’s lives, far beyond anything we can say or do.

    Anchoring Scriptures:
    1 John 1:9
    Romans 2:4
    Romans 5: 6-11

  • Welcome back to the table. Today, Bethany is diving into one of the more delicate aspects of parenting—leading our kids in the process of repentance. It's something we all wrestle with at times. You may have asked yourself, What is my goal in a repentance conversation? or What am I really trying to accomplish?

It starts with asking good questions. When we create space for the Holy Spirit to speak, we allow our children to reflect on their actions, thoughts, and their relationship with God.

By asking these questions, you leave space for the Holy Spirit to speak to their hearts. You’re not forcing the conversation, but creating room for God to do what only he can do. Our job is to help them recognize it and understand the beauty of turning back to him.

Remember—it's less about the discipline itself and more about helping them connect with God.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table! Today, Bethany is walking us through a crucial topic: repentance. It’s a word we often hear and toss around, but what does it truly mean, and how can we guide our kids through it?

When introducing repentance to our children, it’s important to remember that it’s not just about saying sorry but about helping them understand a heart-level change. Luke 5:32 reminds us that Jesus came to call sinners to repentance, and Acts 3:19 encourages us to turn to God and receive forgiveness. It’s a challenge to teach our kids to think differently and recognize that none of us are perfect.

We can remind them that repentance is about their relationship with God—it’s not about guilt or shame. Instead, it’s about the freedom we have in Christ because Jesus came to save us.

Bethany highlights that repentance is one of the most beautiful parts of our faith. As we talk with our kids, we get to watch God work in their hearts, helping them understand the power of turning to Him. These gospel-centered conversations create opportunities for our children to experience God’s grace and grow in their walk with him.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. Bethany offers practical strategies and scenarios for handling challenging moments, whether you're managing a toddler’s tantrum or a teenager’s disconnect.

What does inspection look like on those tough days? For toddlers, it means getting low and getting quiet. Ask gently, “What’s going on in your heart?” Use these moments to introduce the idea that Jesus came to rescue you, helping them connect their feelings with grace.

For teenagers, inspection involves modeling and discussing values even when they seem disconnected or resistant. Engage in conversations about their beliefs, and avoid shame. Focus on how Jesus brings salvation and heart change rather than condemnation.

Bethany’s insights provide practical advice for transforming difficult moments into opportunities for growth, keeping Jesus at the center.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table! Today, Bethany dives into what gospel-centered inspection conversations look like at different ages. You might be thinking, “I couldn’t have this conversation with my kids,” but remember—these talks take practice and repetition, and they may not go smoothly the first time.

With little ones, begin by asking hard questions like, “What was going on in your heart?” It’s about modeling and practicing these discussions. Engage with them and sometimes even guide them through the process. Lay out the concepts clearly and give them time to respond. The goal is not to make them feel bad but to introduce Jesus into their lives.

As your children grow into young adults, these conversations shift. They’ll start to take more ownership of their reflections, and you’ll transition from guiding them to partnering in their journey. The foundation you’ve built will help them navigate these discussions with greater independence, always keeping Jesus at the center.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. As we walk through the inspection phase of gospel-centered conversations with our children, scripture provides us with truths that anchor our hearts and guide us in love and wisdom.

Proverbs 16:2 reminds us that while we can observe actions, God is the one who truly sees and weighs the heart. Our role as parents is to partner with him, seeking to understand what lies beneath our children’s behavior.

Hebrews 4:12 encourages us to let God’s word shape our discernment, bringing clarity as we navigate difficult conversations. When we are rooted in his truth, we are better equipped to handle their hearts with care.

1 Corinthians 13 reminds us that love must guide everything we do. This phase of inspection is an opportunity to reflect Christ's love—offering grace, understanding, and safety as we help our children grow in both wisdom and faith.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. As parents, it's easy to get caught up in correcting behavior, but we are called to go deeper, to create a space where our children can unpack their hearts before God.

We want to be intentional about setting the stage for these meaningful conversations. Our goal is for our children to think, "She is here to learn about me" and "She is here to unpack my heart with me." This phase is not about issuing a verdict or layering on guilt and shame, but about helping them unwrap what's going on inside.

When we guide our children through the inspection phase, we are pointing them back to the gospel, showing them how to align their hearts with God’s truth. This is where real transformation happens—not just correcting behavior, but leading them to the One who truly knows and heals their hearts.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. This week, Bethany is diving into the second part of our Jesus-centered discipline conversation: inspection.

Inspection is about looking deeper into our children’s hearts to understand the "why" behind their actions. It’s not enough to correct behavior—we have to ask the right questions to unpack it.

It's not just about correcting behavior but leading our children to understand what’s going on inside. We ask questions like, “What was happening in your heart when this occurred?”. By doing this, we teach them to examine their motives and align their hearts with God’s truth.

God doesn’t stop at correcting us—he invites us into deeper reflection and growth. In the same way, as we help our children unpack their hearts, we’re showing them how to grow in Christ and embrace his grace.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. In John 20, the story of Thomas gives us a beautiful example of how God approaches correction. When Thomas doubted Jesus' resurrection, Jesus didn’t respond with frustration or rebuke. Instead, he led with a question.

Bethany encourages listeners that this method of leading correction with a question is something we can apply when guiding our children. At different ages, the approach may look different, but the heart of it remains the same.

For younger kids, it might look like asking simple questions: "What do you think Jesus would want you to do?" With older children, we can dive deeper, encouraging them to reflect on their actions and how their faith plays a role.

But the heart of the matter is this: God leads correction with a question, and we are called to do the same, guiding them with love and grace.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. Bethany is frequently asked, “Can gospel-centered conversations be done with little ones, too?” In this episode, she invites listeners to join her in exploring how even with very young children, meaningful, faith-based discussions can take place.

With younger children, it is essential to lead the conversation, as they may not yet have the capacity to provide all the answers. Bethany emphasizes that the expectation is not for children to fully grasp everything at once but rather to help them reflect on their actions and experiences.

The purpose here is not solely to correct behavior, but to foster connection and understanding.Even with little ones, having these gospel-centered conversations can plant seeds of faith.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. In moments of correction with our children, anchoring our conversations in prayer can bring clarity and peace. Bethany encourages us to bring everything before God and seek His wisdom through scripture.

Where can we anchor in the Bible during these moments? Jeremiah 33:3 reminds us to call to God, and he will answer us, revealing things we do not know. Luke 8:17 highlights that nothing is hidden from God, and Luke 12 urges us to remember that he sees all things. Psalm 139 emphasizes God's intimate knowledge of our hearts.

As we navigate correction, be active in praying these words over your conversations. Our role is to pray that God gives us the insight we cannot find on our own. Before stepping into correction, ask God to reveal what needs to be seen and give you the wisdom to guide your child with gentleness and understanding.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. In gospel-centered conversations during correction, Bethany reminds us that the goal is to seek clarity—both for ourselves and our children. Rather than diving into a lecture, we should start by simply asking, “What happened? Why are you here with me?”

This approach helps ensure that we see all parts of the situation, just as God does. Instead of focusing on what we already know, we encourage our children to make their own connections by asking thoughtful questions.

When we connect with our kids and avoid accusing them, their hearts stay open. Rushing to judgment or assuming facts can quickly shut them down, but by asking good questions and truly listening, we gain clarity and understanding. Our role is to guide, not accuse, and in doing so, we reflect God's patience and wisdom.

  • Welcome back to the kitchen table. As parents, navigating correction with a gospel-centered heart can feel challenging. In today's world, correction is often misunderstood as harsh or mean. However, Bethany reminds us that God’s model of correction throughout scripture, particularly in Genesis 3, shows a different approach—one rooted in love and understanding.

Bethany encourages us to take a similar approach when we need to correct our kids. It's not about being harsh but asking the right questions that guide them. She breaks it down into four key parts: correction, inspection, repentance, and blessing.

Using this approach allows us to guide our children with patience and love, reflecting God’s heart in our parenting.
