This week we sat down with Kennie Steverson, a local tournament angler. Kennie made his mark on the maps last year when he won a big tournament here on the Harris chain. KEnny grew up right here local to the studio and is a good ole boy just like the rest of us. On the episode we discuss everything from cheaters to what this new fancy technology they call live scope and so on. Kennie talks about some upcoming tournaments and how his season is going so far. We had a few beers and me not being the best bass fisherman in the world definitely learned a few things.

This week's show definitely comes with heavy parental warning. We typically try to keep things pg13 at worst most of the time in the studio but when we get out on the river and get to shake off all responsibility we tend to cut loose a bit. Before we get started on this episode let me give you a little backstory to our river trip this year. Every year we plan a 5 day 50 mile trip down the beautiful Suwannee river. We generally have roughly 25 guys sign up and pay their share of the associated cost of the trip and we have quite a grand time but this year mother nature wasn't having it. The Suwannee was very high for this time of year posing enough risk that they essentially shut the river down by closing the boat ramps. Now mind you these closures took place just a few days prior to us needing to leave for the trip. We refused to let mother nature get in the way of a good time and another adventure was put together at the last minute and the Wacissa river adventure was born.

This time of year we get a chance to talk about all kinds of different activities we enjoy. This week we’re taking you on an adventure talking about an activity that I truly enjoy. Squirrel hunting. Squirrel hunting is something I grew up doing with my dad every year after deer season closed and it's something I now do with my kids. It's a low pressure hunting environment and an absolute blast. Not to mention Squirrels are great table fare. We aren't just talking about any ole squirrel hunting though. If you jump back a few episodes to episode 210 you’ll hear us talk with James Stovall about his 206” buck that has stood as the Florida state record since 1999. That buck was harvested in Green Swamp west the first year it was open to the public as a special opportunity hunt. It's a great story and I encourage you, if you haven't already listened to it, to jump back and do so. All that being said just this last year James himself admitted he believed he was going to be dethroned. In 2023 Luke Asby was fortunate enough to harvest a 200” whitetail that put him in the 3 place spot only missing James by a small margin of 6” and the number 2 slot by just over 1”. This magnificent buck couldn't have fallen to a more deserving hunter and we are super excited to be the first ones to bring you the story in all its detail. A buck of 100 lifetimes and one I'm sure he won't soon forget and neither will we.

We know for the most part everyone is gearing up for turkey season, we just had youth weekend south of state road 70 this past weekend and we’ll have youth weekend North of 70 very shortly and then the chase is on here in Florida, but, This week we’re talking ducks unlimited, you don't have to be a duck hunter to have heard of ducks unlimited, much like National wild turkey federation they are a well known powerhouse for conservation in their realm with many local chapters doing awesome things in their own communities much like the awesome youth hunt put on by one of our local chapters here in our neck of the woods. This week we’re sitting down with Vincent Phelps the president elect of the Villages Chapter of Ducks Unlimited to hear about how he came to love the sport, what has driven him to want to take on the role of chapter president and what they have in store for the 2024-2025 year.

When you think of the marshy shore of eastern Maryland, you might think of ducks, maybe you think of fishing but that's not even close to the critter we have on the menu this week. This week we dive into a success story on a not so commonly known species of deer the sika deer. Sika deer a native of southern Japan, were released on Maryland's lower eastern shore in 1916 Clement Henry and have thrived alongside the native whitetail to produce a prolific and huntable species. In the month of October if you happen to find yourself in the Maryland Marsh you just might hear the bugle of a Sika Deer, but don't let that fool you into thinking a public land hunt will come easy.
