To celebrate Ice Bath Sundays, here is the next episode of Unrehearsed with Dr. Charlie aka the Musicians Physician. Immediately following a communal ice bath, the freshly frozen pair discuss the difference between ice baths, cryotherapy, and cocaine as well as our innate need for community. Basile and Dr. Charlie Kautz also explore the recent cicada phenomenon.

Thank you to the very talented Jeremy Lister for hosting the host and our favorite podcast guest in the backyard bath. Special thanks to Mixing Engineer/Sound Wizard Kyle J. Ross.

    Producer’s Notes:
There are 3,000 species of cicadas found around the world, and only nine of them are periodical. Seven of the periodical ones — all part of a genus known as Magicicada — only inhabit the eastern US.
Check out the Wim Hof method breathing exercises. It’s pretty rad.
Restore Hyper Wellness is the cryo studio in Music Row/Nashville.

I have yet to ice bath again… JB

And so I get it right, Jeff Tweedy says in his book Let's Go (So We Can Get Back), "I think that artist create in spite of suffering, not because of suffering. I just don't buy it. Everyone suffers by degrees and I believe everyone has the capacity to create...
At the very least, one's suffering must be fairly manageable to even contemplate art."
Well said. Now go create! JB

Basile has a very unrehearsed chat with bff and founding member of the Circle Jerks, Greg Hetson. Despite being a Kings fan, Hetson has some great insight on playing & staying sober and the resurgence of punk rock. He might even get a little teary eyed.

During the last two years, many of us have experienced some hopelessness. Many across the globe are now experiencing despair. If you've been feeling it, you are not alone.

Basile explores both hopelessness and despair with the help of Brené Brown's Atlas of the Heart. Basile shares the ways she herself is overcoming not only hopelessness but tragedy and trauma. She once again set annual goals, is finding new pathways when she feels stuck and has given herself agency to make shit happen.

…Big love to Maggie Rose, whose song Saint might be my new anthem. And Quarantine Queen by Sinead Harnett couldn't be more perfect to end the episode.
