IN THIS EPISODE: “The Wendigo” is a novella written by Algernon Blackwood. It was originally published in the 1910 collection “The Lost Valley and Other Stories” which I’ve placed a link to in the show notes. The story involves a hunting party that gets separated in the Canadian wilderness in search for moose. One of the party members is abducted by the legendary Wendigo. Fellow author Robert Aickman once said of the story, it’s "...one of the (possibly) six great masterpieces in the field". Here’s hoping you agree with him.

It’s not just a movie plot from a Wes Craven film – it really happened, and inspired the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. But what we don’t often hear are the times that those prop weapons end up killing someone for real. (Death By Movie Prop) *** How can a little girl disappear in a big crowd of people with no one seeing anything? Was it a case of stranger danger or did someone she know betray her trust? We’ll look at the case of Beverly Rose Potts who went missing in 1951, never to be seen again. (Peril in the Park for Beverly Potts) *** Part medicine, part honey, part cannibalism… who or what was the mellified man? (The Mellified Man) *** They say that tragedy can change a person forever… and that couldn’t be more true for one man who went from being considered lucky, to becoming deranged after a horrible accident, (The Hidden Wounds of Mr. Schultz) *** Famous last words. Humphrey Bogart said, “I should have never switched from Scotch to martinis.” Winston Churchill’s last words were simply, “I’m bored with it all.” But sometimes what a person says on their deathbed can be shocking or outlandish – even if they aren’t a celebrity. His journey turned into a mystery, marked by sightings of a semi-truck driving erratically and Devin's last known moments of confusion. Despite an abandoned truck with undisturbed cargo and the eerie discovery of his skull two years later, the question remains: What happened to Devin Williams in those remote woods? An unfortunate chain of events at the Horseshoe Brewery led to the death of 8 women and children as they were caught up in London’s Great Beer Flood. But, what really happened? They are called ghost marriages, because the groom is given a dead woman to marry… often forced to do so. And the stories are, understandably, horrifying. HOUR ONE: When you think of human sacrifice, you might picture Aztec or Mayan ceremonies, or maybe a Satanic cult standing in a pentagram with a naked woman on an altar – possibly even a volunteer. Personally, I picture Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. While civilizations and groups such as these certainly did (and maybe still do) their share of brutal sacrificing, they are by no means the only ones that conducted death rituals.
