  • In this episode, we delve into the suspects and theories surrounding the D.B. Cooper case. Despite an extensive investigation by the FBI, Cooper's true identity and fate remain unknown. Over the years, a number of suspects have emerged, including Richard McCoy Jr., a Vietnam veteran and experienced skydiver who hijacked a plane in 1972 and was later killed in a shootout with the FBI. Another suspect is Duane Weber, a career criminal who reportedly confessed on his deathbed to being D.B. Cooper. Weber's wife also claimed that he resembled the composite sketch of Cooper, and that he had shown her a large sum of money before his death. However, the evidence linking Weber to the crime is circumstantial at best.

As we continue our investigation into the D.B. Cooper case, we will explore these and other suspects and theories, and attempt to uncover the truth behind one of the most enduring mysteries in American history.

  • November 24, 1971 - Pacific Northwest - A man known as Dan (not D.B) Cooper boarded a Northwest Orient Airlines plane from Portland to Seattle. He was dressed in a suit and tie, and appeared calm and collected as he made his way to his seat. Cooper ordered a bourbon and soda, and soon after takeoff, he handed a note to the flight attendant. The note indicated that Cooper had a bomb in his briefcase and demanded $200,000 in ransom money and four parachutes. Cooper's demands were met by the authorities on the ground, who delivered the money and parachutes to the plane during a stop in Seattle. Cooper released the passengers and two of the four crew members, and the plane took off again with Cooper, the pilot, co-pilot, and flight attendant still on board. Cooper strapped on the parachutes and requested that the plane fly at a low altitude and slow speed.

As the plane approached Reno, Nevada, Cooper opened the rear door of the plane and jumped out with the ransom money. The FBI conducted an extensive search for Cooper, but he was never found. The case has become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring numerous books, movies, and TV shows, and sparking the public's imagination about the ultimate fate of the daring hijacker. In future episodes of the podcast, we will explore potential suspects and theories related to the case, and continue our investigation into one of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries of our time.

  • 1878 - Sante Fe, New Mexico - Rising 22 feet (or 6.1 meters) into the air in Loretto Chapel is what many consider to be an actual miracle. It is made out of wood that so far has been identified as a relative of a tree found in Alaska, sorta but otherwise not much luck on where it came from. It’s freestanding with no center support. Also, nobody knows how it was built then or now. We never got to ask because the single, solitary, carpenter that built this did it in complete privacy and vanished the morning it was found constructed in the chapel. He never said his name but was the answer to the nuns novena.

Join Tom, Ben, and special guest Lakkin as we discuss the Loretto Chapel staircase.

  • March 6, 2016 - Lake County, Oregon - It was a normal morning for Mary Lee Kelley until she noticed that her 25-year-old, 50 foot Oregon Maple tree was missing from her back yard. It appeared to have been removed with large equipment yet she heard nothing throughout the night. The local sheriff's office responded and investigated, but unfortunately the investigation has lead to more questions than answers as this case still remains unsolved. The question that Mrs. Kelley and law enforcement seem to still be asking themselves... is why? Why would someone steal a tree?

  • January 5, 1935 - Kansas City, MO - Who was the man in Room 1046 of the President Hotel? More importantly, who killed the man in this room that day? The man checked into the hotel under the name Roland T. Owen, but had used other aliases including Eugene K. Scott and Cecil Warner. It wasn't until several years after his death when the case had went cold that he was identifed by his mother as Artemus Ogletree. He was found by a bellhop in the room naked on all fours, covered in blood with stab wounds and a skull fracture. When asked who did this to him his response was "Nobody". When it was annouced that he would have a pauper's funeral, someone called the funeral home saying he needed a proper burial and would send money. Flowers were delivered to the funeral with a card reading "Love Forever Louise".

To this day, the murder has been unsolved and ends up being more questions than answers in the case of Who was the man in Room 1046.

  • A figure watching over children in December noting whether they are good or naughty is not surprising as children in America are often told that Santa Claus does that… however, the figure we talk about tonight is Krampus. First seen in literature in the 1500s, Krampus is the often seen as the anti-St. Nick, punishing the bad children while St. Nick rewards the good ones.

In this episode we look at the folklore surrounding Krampus and Krampus Nacht and delve into some of our thoughts on the being that has been haunting children with birch branches for hundreds of years.
