Day 5 - Bhai Dooj
This day is a celebration of the lovely relation of a brother and sister. There are various stories associated with it.
The Story of Krishna and SubhadraThe Story of Bali and LakhmijiThe Story of Mahavirji, King Nandivardhan and SudarshanaThe story of Yama and Yamuna. Yama is the brother and Yamuna is the sister and how they meet on this day. There are many folk stories of how a sister protects and saves here brother on this day as well.
Points to Ponder:
It can be Interpreted in a very lovely manner - the nurturing of brother and sister can be taken as universal love and brotherhood also.
This shows that when one sees the light within, he/she is able to see the same light in all the living things.
This strengthens the spirit of love and brotherhood. The entire world becomes a Kutumbh.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - The entire world is one family.
As in all of us shines only that One Divine.
A line of diyas, different shapes different forms and different colours - but that jyot that fire is the same.

Day 4 - Govardan Pooja
This is associated with the story of Krishna where he suggested to the people of Vrindavan to pray to the Mountain and not to Lord Indra. What followed was anger of Indra and major destruction caused by him.
But, now Krishan protected all by lifting the Govardan parvat on his little finger.
Point to Ponder:
This shows that when we take one step, God takes a 1000 steps towards us. We worked towards purification and we welcomed him into our hearts through Bhakti.
Not only, did he give us Contentment, but now when our Indriyas (Indra) attack us, he will protect us from falling into the pit of darkness again.
A state of ‘Total Surrender’

Day 3 - Main Diwali (Amawasya Day/Lakhsmi Pooja)
This is widely associated with the return of Ramji, Sitaji and Laxhmanji.
As the story goes, first Hanumanji was sent to Ayodhya to inform Bharat that Ramji was coming. People lit there homes and streets so that Hanumanji could find Ayodhya. After giving the message Hanumanji went back and got Ramji with him.
Point to Ponder:
This shows that when one realise that we have the needed medicines (Dhanvantari) to heal the self and one starts to work and destroy the demons within (Narakasur), The divine light, that is the self starts shining again.
When one gets pure, bhakti (Hanumanji) comes and only when there is pure bhakti in ones heart, it has the capacity to summon the Lord (Ramji).
Sitaji also comes, she is but Lakhsmi and Lakshmi is ‘Contentment’. On that day, we pray to the Goddess of Contentment - for the real richness is not wealth, but gratitude for what we already have.

You can listen to the story of Varaha Aavtar and how Mother Earth was saved on www.bhagwatforchildren.in
To see what all came out of the Milky ocean other than the ear rings of Ma Aditi - You can refer to the story of Kurma Aavtar on www.bhagwatforchildren.in
Day 2 - Main Diwali/ Choti Diwali (Narak Chaudas)
This is associated with the end of the Demon Naraka by his own Mother/ Parents Krishna and Satyabhama. Who were the re-incarnation of Vishnu (Varaha Avtar) and Bumi Devi.
Point to Ponder:
This shows us that no one else can kill our demons for us and there is no one to blame for the negativity we harbour in our hearts. We gave birth to the vices and it is only we who can destroy them.
-
In the same lines listen to the story of Kurma Aavtar in www.bhagwatforchildren.in
It has a different twist to the same story of the Churning of the Milky Ocean
Day 1 - Dhanteras
This is associated with the story of ‘Samundra manthan’, Churning of the Milky Ocean. When the milky ocean was churned by the demons and devas, a lot of things came out of it. Lakhsmi ji and Dhanvantri both also came out of the same.
Dhanteras, is associated with the coming of Dhanvantari - The God of medicine.
Point to Ponder:
This indicates the internal churning and shows us that we have the power within to heal ourselves form the illness and darkness in us. The major illness being ‘Kaam, Krodha, Moha, Lobha, Ahenkar etc.’

Story
A goddess called Kushmanda had created the universe with the radiance of her smile. She further created the trimuti - Bhrama, Vishnu and Manesh. Shivji wanted to be bestowed with 18 kind of perfection. To do this she created a Goddess called Sidhidatri who bestowed Shivji with all the sidhis. Brahama was given the task of creation and he needed both man and woman to create the world. So Goddess Siddhidatri created the Ardhnarishvara swaroop of Shivji, which is half male and half female. Hence, she is worshiped as the giver even to Brahama and Shiva.
