Marking the second interpretation of the classic dickens tale of A Christmas Carol on this podcast. This months film is definitely one of the darkest and possibly the most unique versions of the festive staple. Placing the tale of a jaded tv executive in the 80s New York studio a la NBC, a network lead Bill Murray surely knew well. This twisted environment turns the iconic ghosts into a manic fairy delivering justified abuse, a strongly lived cabbie, and a literal phantom in the tv screen. So grab your gifted towels, start practicing those double front tucks and turn in as we discuss… Scrooged.

Being one of the very few movies to be represent one of the most overlooked holidays of the holiday season, this months episode is a staple of the buddy road trip trope. So much so that it was a direct inspiration for Ryan Reynolds for the development of the successful Deadpool and Wolverine film. Get ready to sell some shower curtain rings and listen as we discussed a comedy with one of the most accurately descriptive titles - Planes, Trains, and automobiles.

Considered as having one of the most iconic werewolf transformations in cinematic history, this months film rides a very delicate line between tragedy and comedy in a surprisingly very Shakespearean nature. Aside from the titular werewolf, this John Landis directed movie contains some the best practical zombie makeup and lead to the inspiration of one of the king of pop’s most iconic music videos. With its average Joe main character this film is a story that comes the closest of making the audience feel that you too with just a bit of poor luck and being in the wrong town at the wrong time could become a monster. So grab your huge hiking backpack and stay on the road that is… American Werewolf in London.

The late 90s had it's fair share of incredible animated movies that made up this host's childhood. These included, but definitely not limited to, Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dome, and the previously discussed on this podcast Prince of Egypt. But this months film is one, to quote a phasing I used to say, went under the radar for me. Directed and co-written by Brad Bird, who would later go on to be an icon for Disney and Pixar, this movie tugs at the heart strings and captures the imagination to delve into very deep themes of death, grieving, and self defining against what you might have been made for. So put your Superman capes on and listen as we discuss…. The Iron Giant.
Big thanks to special guest Marcel from the Reel Chums Podcast go check them out. They are currently doing a series that I liked to think was inspired by yours truly. Jk. 😊

We continue to go down the road that will always lead to family with this months film. Marking the second outing showing that only with custom super cars can an FBI investigation be solved, moments are created that would set the tone of the franchise well into its present day. Adding two more iconic family members to the crew, this movie kicks up the NOS in its stunts, it’s entertaining dynamics and just over all enjoyment to a once thought ridiculous series by this here host. So sit back being careful of ejector seats and listen as we discuss… 2 fast 2 furious.

Sometimes being overshadowed by his other cult classics of The Thing and Halloween, both of which being previous topics on this very podcast, this John Carpenter directed film boasts an anti-capitalism theme that becomes more and more relevant with time. Placing a wrestling superstar in the starring role before popularized by the likes of The Rock and John Cena, this comedic thriller of a David vs a Goliath is deserving of the status of badass. So chew that bubble gum and get ready to kick ass as we discuss… They Live

Marking a redo conclusion of sorts to one of the most inspirational anime, this months film can be described in so many different ways ranging from existential, dark, scary and perhaps to some utter insanity. Cars, Coronas and Family. Need I say more about the first installment of one of the longest running and biggest movie franchises. The race starts now as we begin the long road of discussing A rally of films that this host might I say possibly has unfairly been too harsh in their face value judgement. So Listen as we live one quarter mile at a time and discuss… The Fast and the Furious

W/ Special Guest Austin Olivia Kendrick (@aok.wav)Let’s Dance. This month’s film is part of the already well documented gap in knowledge of this here podcaster better know as the 80s pop culture classic. Filled with the teen angst, the story of rebellion, just the right amount of cheesiness and of course a rocking soundtrack with a vibe that as we discuss in this episode needs to be recreated more frequently in today’s cinema. So let’s hear it for the boys and listen as we discuss … 1984’s Footloose

*Please forgive the audio. I am still out of practice when it comes to doing in person episodes. But I really do hope you barrel through the episode because I really loved connecting and talking with my sister about a movie she loves. Which is rare. If you cannot stand the audio there are more episodes with audio not as bad please give them a listen if you have not yet. Have a Happy New Year*
The story of noir has become a time honored tradition in cinema known for its tales of grittiness and begrudging tough as nails male protagonists. This month's film brilliantly takes this movie motif and makes it its own by creating a very human story of injustice, still having a detective but with problems different than those in other movies of the genre, and telling a story of a more deeper love that involves a different type of femme fatal and most importantly there is jazz. So grab your fedoras and coats and get ready as we discuss... Motherless Brooklyn.

Merry Christmas Listener! We are discussing one of the most staple classic Christmas movies to ever exist. A Christmas movie that the McAllister watched in Spanish in Home Alone 2. A Christmas movie that might possibly kickstarted a cinema motify of exploring the concept of how one persons existence can affect the entire world. A Christmas movie that in reality only takes place during Christmas for just a quarter of its entire 2 hours and some change runtime. But it is the themes of charity, hope, and joy, that cements this month’s movie’s association with the most WONDERFUL time of the year. Concluding this year’s holiday exchange with jolly ol’ Alan Torres, ring those bells for angels to get their wings as we discuss… It’s a Wonderful life.

Terminator, predator, Conan, the barbarian, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a name that is synonymous with multiple classic 80s action films. This fact was brilliantly utilized in this months movie to create a classic comedy capturing the notion of this one actors well known persona at this point in cinematic history as well as telling an endearing story of a young boy meeting his fictional hero. So chill and listen in as my friends from Reel chums discuss… Last Action Hero.

Trick or Treat, Choose wisely. This is the statement that is at the heart of this months frighteningly film. Continuing our annual tradition of Alan Torres introducing me to a Halloween classic. The following anthology movie offers up 4 modern interweaving penny dreadfuls that definitely put you in the Halloween spirit. So grab your pillow cases and get ready for some hopefully non-razor filled candies as we discuss... Trick r Treat.

Taking place on the gritty streets of an alternate world Detroit Michigan this month film is a 80s action staple. Featuring a character that has not only been featured as a mortal Kombat DLC but has also been seemingly influential in the childhood of my guests, Andy and Gabe from the Who Let you Watch That?! Podcast. So sit back and watch out for stray bullets to the crouch as we discuss… robocop

*Please forgive the sound of the very necessary fan in the background*
Coming out 33 years earlier than the more well-known 90s adaptation, this month's film loosely inspired by the classic Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde but adds more comedy and the moral of learning to live in your own skin instead of transforming the person you are. Adding to the list of classic Hollywood movies we have covered on this show please enjoy as we discuss the Jerry Lewis written, directed, and starring classic 1963's... The Nutty Professor.

Following suit from the decade before, the 90s saw a boom in teen comedy that would become just as iconic and quotable. However, one stands alone as taking the concept of what would happen if people were to revisit their high school days instead. Capturing the essence of the theme of being and loving the person that your experiences created this movie film marked a blind spot for one of this hosts favorite genres growing up in said decade. So grab your post-it notes and bust out your best interpretive dancing as we discuss Romy and Michelle’s High School reunion.

This month's film became one of the most iconic cult classic horror series with a groovy icon. With impressive prosthetics, practical effects, and even a bit of claymation, the story of cabins in the woods, demons and even time travel became a fantastical wild ride of a movie series whose direct influence we see today with the recently released spiritual successor. So grab your broomstick and get ready your chainsaw hand attachments as we discuss..... The original Evil Dead Trilogy.
