  • Get cozy in your favorite lying-down position for our first practice. Take a moment to make sure your head and knees are comfy, and snuggle up to stay warm throughout. Now, let's dive into this fun exercise! We'll kick things off by letting our minds wander and conjure up simple, soothing images. No need to strain—just relax and let the images flow naturally. As you do, notice how you can step back and observe your thoughts like a movie playing on a screen. Here's the really cool part: our brains are tricksters! They can't tell the difference between what's real and what's just our imagination. So, when we imagine peaceful scenes like a sunny beach or a tranquil forest, our brain reacts as if we're right there in the moment. This sends a signal to our bodies to chill out, dialing down our heart rate, releasing tension from our muscles, and quieting our busy minds. It's like hitting the ultimate stress-relief reset button! So, let's dive in and let our imaginations work their magic. Get ready to unwind and feel the calm wash over you!

  • Have you seen or had acorn squash before? These squashes look like huge acorns with their round plump globular shapes and even grooved ridges. They are often sold in bins at the grocery store with a dark green appearance, though they may appear in other colors, such as orange and white! If you’re new to the plant-based world, chances are you may not have had a chance yet to cook with this less known squash in your kitchen, or know much about it. It may even be one of those squashes that you have pushed your shopping cart by at the store and never even considered buying.

That’s why I want to spotlight acorn squash in today’s episode. They are a hidden gem in the squash world and many people don’t know just how nutritious they are…much less how to eat them. So, if you’re curious to find out more about this fall plant-based ingredient, listen in!

  • Sankalpa is a Sanskrit term that translates to "resolve" or "intention." In the context of Yoga Nidra, Sankalpa refers to a heartfelt statement or affirmation that resonates with our truest aspirations and values. By planting this seed of intention in the fertile soil of our subconscious mind, we can catalyze positive change and transformation in our lives. Make sure that your Sankalpa is expressed in the present tense. Use a short, positive sentence in simple words. Refer exclusively to yourself and not to other people or beings. Everything else will follow. For example: "I am healthy!", "I am resourceful!" or "I am abundant!" You can repeat your Sankalpa several times during the day to help the Sankalpa manifest. Stay with your Sankalpa and keep repeating the same words until your Sankalpa has realized itself in your life.

  • This episode from 2019 was inspired by a facebook post I made on the Yoga Teacher Resource Facebook Group. I was having my own moment of doubt and decided to share in order to help normalize the experience for other teachers. The response was overwhelming! That post has gotten the most comments in the group so far. It made me realize that there is a need for yoga teachers to hear that they are not alone when they doubt and to understand where the doubt comes from and what to do about it.
