Episode 124: Tom Hams from Port Hughes Fishing Charters
This week we are joined by Tom who has recently taken over Port Hughes Fishing Charters. After changing careers from shearing to commercial fishing, Tom has now found his dream job taking over a successful charter business in a well renowned fishing region. Tom talks us through his fishing background and journey to taking over the business, what customers can expect on a day out and shares some of the coolest things he has seen on the water.

Episode 123: Shane Hodgens, Tackle World - Pt Augusta
This week we are joined by Shane Hodgens, who we have previously chatted to as the owner of the Tackle World store in Port Lincoln. This time he joins us from Pt Augusta, where they have opened a second store, initially as a pop up shop and now as a permanent fixture. Port Augusta has been the hot spot in SA fishing of late, with plenty of huge Kingfish being landed and just this week a Swordfish was filmed swimming very close to shore. Shane updates us on fishing across the whole of the Eyre Peninsula, talks about the process of opening a new store and gives his opinion about how the states Kingfish fishery would be best managed.

Episode 122 - Steve Toome and Ashley White - Port Lincoln Tuna Comp
This week we are joined by Steve Toome and Ashley White, the guys behind the hugely successful Port Lincoln Tuna Classic. After fishing in this comp earlier this year, we catch up with the boys to preview the 2025 comp, to be held on the March long weekend. The boys are also able to announce a recent community award the competition took out, and give us a run down of all of their fishing exploits off Port Lincoln over the winter months, including barrel tuna and fishing the deep water off the continental shelf.
As always, we have all of the latest fishing news, including a preview of the upcoming RecFish SA AGM and board elections, a review of the recent Onka Stompa event which saw some great fish caught and plenty of money raised for charity and Dizzy has an update on another lost Antarctic penguin.

Episode 121: Ben Gibbs
This week we are joined by Ben Gibbs, Tournament Director at Bream Master SA and all around gun Fisho. Ben loves fishing from his tinny in The Coorong and targeting Mulloway off the beach at Salt Creek, but his real passion is for fishing from his kayak. Episode 120: Dylan Pierias
This week we are joined by Adelaide United's number one fisherman and recent recruit Dylan Pierias. Dylan grew up in Victoria, before moving to NSW to continue his soccer career, where his love for fishing, particularly land based, really kicked off. He has recently moved to SA and has loved getting into the land based fishing over here and has already nailed some great catches including breaking the illusive metre Mulloway. He tells us all about his fishing journey and how he thinks SA fishing compares to the other states.

Episode 119: Michael Angelakis
This week we are joined by Michael Angelakis, one of the biggest names in the South Australian seafood industry. We hear the story of how the Angelakis family arrived in Australia from the Greek Islands in the 1920s and went from fishing on the Eyre Peninsula for Whiting to running a booming SA business employing 150 people. Michael tells us about his own journey including his time in business, his hugely successful TV program ‘Out of The Blue’ with Michael Keelan and how he is now enjoying his time as a recreational angler. We also chat about his favourite SA seafood dish, how he sees the management of fishing in SA and how he loves to cook plenty of the less sought after species,

Episode 118: Dom Thornely
This week we are joined by Dom Thornely, the Content & Brand Marketing Manager at Shimano. A former professional cricketer who had a keen interest in fishing during his playing days, before moving into the marketing world, Dom is now kept very busy promoting all things Shimano Fishing. He tells us about what his job entails, wraps up the recent AFTA event and new products Shimano has launched as well as shares some of his own fishing stories, including dishing plenty of dirt on his good mate Brett Lee.

Episode 116: Darryl Tiffin - Northern Districts Sport Fishing Club
This week we are chatting with Darryl Tiffin, who is the President of the Northern Districts Sport Fishing Club. The club has been around for over 30 years, meeting at the Somerset Hotel once a month and has monthly trips to different fishing locations around the state. Darryl tells us all about the club and some upcoming trips, as well as talking about his new boat and some of his own fishing exploits over the years.

Episode 114: Brett Mensforth, SA Angler
This week we are joined by Brett Mensforth, Co-Editor of SA Angler Magazine, along with his father Shane. The magazine has recently transitioned to a digital publication and it is great to hear all about this process and how successful it has been. Brett also tells us about his own fishing recently, most notably having success catching three 100+ kilogram Southern Bluefin Tuna with his dad off the Southern Yorke Peninsula. We chat about the increasing number of barrel size fish being caught all along the state and also hear from Brett about his thoughts on some of the big fishing issues in SA.

Ep 113: Leigh Kuerschner, Lower Murray Lure Fishing Club
This week we are joined by Leigh Kuerschner, Treasurer at the Lower Murray Lure Fishing Club to fill us in all about the club and chat about what has been a great period of freshwater fishing recently. Episode 112 - Faith Coleman
This week we are joined by Faith Coleman, an ecologist, who knows more about the Coorong than just about anyone! She is a wealth of knowledge about how the system works and is able to shed some light on the recent fish kills in the Coorong’s South Lagoon which has made news in recent months. We also chat about the Coorong’s health overall, the shrinking sand dunes and hear what she thinks needs to be done to better manage the ecosystem.

Episode 111: Shane Hodgens, Tackle World Port lincoln
This week we are joined by Shane Hodgens, the man behind one of the best tackle shops we’ve seen, in Tackle World Port Lincoln. Shane shares his journey into the tackle industry and how they have recently opened up in a huge new location as well as talks us through everything happening in fishing on the Eyre Peninsula. We discuss some of the amazing recent catches with a Swordfish caught last week, believed to be the first caught recreationally from Port Lincoln and also large numbers of 100+ kilogram tuna being caught.

Episode 110: Tyson Kain, Port MacDonnell Tuna and Sportsfish Tournament
This week we are joined by a good friend of the show, Tyson Kain, skipper of Want To Fish Charters and a key contributor to the Port MacDonnell Tuna and Sportsfish Tournament which was held in recent weeks. Tyson give us a wrap up of the comp, including all the winners and a run down of his own week, which included the prize for the biggest tuna. Plus we talk about the barrell Bluefin Tuna season in the South East with his boat ‘Want To Fish’ Charters having ticked over 30 big tuna for the season. Episode 109: Rick Kozoolin, Team Hardore Fishing SA
This week we are joined by Rick Kozoolin, the man behind Team Hardcore Fishing, a group of mates who fish hard for big fish across the state and document their adventures on Instagram. Rick has caught heaps of impressive fish, 160cm + Kingfish, 140cm + Mulloway and heaps of big Samson Fish. We hear all about his fishing, from surf fishing the west coast, jigging around Greenly Island and his next pursuit of big Murray Cod. Rick attended the first of the RecFish SA Fishing Forums so is also able to give us a good run down of the night from an independent perspective.

Episode 108: Jet Worsteling, IFISH

Episode 107: Tom Tyczenko
This week we are joined by a young SA angler who is making big waves all across the states rec fishing scene. Tom works at Sportfishing Scene, where he is super knowledgeable across a range of species, particularly Mulloway which is his favorite fish to target. Tom has recently joined the board of RecFish SA and is keen to contribute to the great work they have been doing over recent years. He is also studying Marine Biology and is looking to work full time in the sector in the years to come! With all this experience across a range of sectors, he is a great man to interview and someone who can teach us all a thing or two!

His most recent show, Fish Forever, is a project he has taken on with his partner Audi Croft, it is currently screening on Channel Nine and is not only hugely entertaining but also a great way of bridging research and sustainable fishing to a wider audience. Episode 105: DC, Calcutta Winner - Port Lincoln Tuna Classic
We come to you fresh off an epic weekend at the Port Lincoln Tuna Classic. We have a comprehensive wrap up of the event with all the winners and a recap of everything that went on. A huge congratulations and thankyou to Steve Toome, Ash White and everyone else who helped put on an amazing weekend and competition.This week we are joined by DC (Dan Coleman), Skipper of Risky Business and winner of the Calcutta competition for biggest fish caught in the 2024 Port Lincoln Tuna Classic. DC who runs Southern Ocean Diving and Marine, a sponsor of the event, runs us through his weekend which included a broken boat which needed fixing on the first morning of the comp. Her fished with his 2 kids and brother in law and was a worthy winner of the big prize! We pick his brain and find out where they caught the fish and what was the lure that did the damage.
We also have a little bit of other news including a bridge in Port Augusta that is being pulled down instead of opened for rec fishing and an agenda of what RecFish SA and PIRSA are discussing at their bi-monthly meeting.
The Shimano Speedmaster 10 is our tackle item of the week, this reel did the damage on heaps of Tuna over the weekend and is a great overhead reel which fished perfectly iin the 10kg mono competition rules.
