In this week's episode, I wanted to talk a bit about buying a used vehicle or possibly a vehicle that doesn't come from the factory all that outfitted for offroading and overlanding versus buying a more purpose built truck with factory warranty that's pretty much ready to go off the dealer's lot.
I can feel you already running to the comments so let me say that I understand that even these more top trim vehicles aren't all necessarily "ready to go" with no modifications and that you'll still need to add your camping gear and whatever else you'd like to get out and explore. However, even just 2 or 3 years ago, you basically couldn't get anything that was really built to go overlanding from a manufacturer. Now, you can get things like the Ford Ranger Raptor or the Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter or the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison and others that you could throw gear in and go.
In this episode of the podcast, I'm going to talk through the pros and cons of each option, when I think each makes sense based on your skills or desire to modify as well as your budget.
So, if you're considering switching vehicles or possibly picking up your first vehicle specifically to use for overlanding and camping, hopefully there's some good, thoughtful content in this episode that helps you make a decision that's right for you.

In this week's episode, I'm going to chat through a pretty cool article I found on a website called Offroadium (link to article here: https://offroadium.com/the-popularity-of-overlanding-in-the-usa.html). In the article, they break down numbers from a few sources as far as what Google Trends says about how the term is being searched and what kind of interest people seem to have in it over the last 7 or 8 years. They also talk through regional interest and even seasonal ebbs and flows in interest in overlanding.
So, I wanted to talk through this info and share my thoughts on why I think overlanding isn't going away anytime soon and what the data says to support that.

In this episode, I wanted to talk directly to all of you out there that have done some KOA or state park campground camping, but are wanting to get more remote while exploring and finding your own dispersed spots.
If you want to know the difference, what you'll need, and the pros and cons of each, this is the episode for you. Check out the full thing for all the info!
As I mentioned, here are some links to some of the gear I've used before if you need something to get started.
If you need a good all around hammock with a built in bug net and rainfly, I've used this one for about 3 years and it's been great: https://amzn.to/3Tdn3cd

For a good, but not hundreds of dollar sleeping bag, Kelty makes good stuff: https://amzn.to/4g7cP6U
I've got two pillows that I love and they're about the same price so I'll link both here-

In this episode of the podcast, I wanted to look back a bit into things like my unistrut roof rack or my Xtrusion bedrack and how I learned a lot on those projects by stepping outside my comfort zone to do something I'd never done.
When doing vehicle modifications or creating your own solutions to overlanding set up challenges, sometimes things go wrong. In this episode, I'm going to share some of the things I've messed up, talk through some tips that I've learned over the years to try to prevent the mistakes, and then some ways to fix them, if they do occur.
If you're scared to do a specific mod because you're worried about potentially messing it up, hopefully this video will help you feel more confident to give it a try and give you a higher percentage chance of success in doing the mod.
If you enjoy the episode, make sure to add the podcast to your favorites and leave a 5 star review!

In this week's episode of the podcast, I wanted to talk about a topic I see a lot. People think they have to "build" their vehicle out completely before they can go on an overlanding trip. Conversely, sometimes people get caught up in the build and then have a really built rig but feel like they can't ever go camping because they're constantly modifying their built rig.
In this episode, I'm going to walk through a newer overlanders journey to build a rig and some real world recommendations for how to approach that build and also get out to camp and explore. Then I'm going to hit on more established builds and how to approach continuing improvements and modifications. Finally, I'll finish the episode by talking through my setup and how I'm prioritizing my build over the next year or so to give you some real world examples of how I'm eating my own cooking, :D.

In this episode of the podcast, I wanted to touch a bit on preparedness related to inclement weather. I just got back from a family vacation where (unfortunately) I didn't have my truck, but my wife's car.
We had an unexpected storm come through which knocked down a bunch of large trees and limbs and knocked out the power for about a day. This made me think about what I would have done if I was off grid or out of service and something like that happened.
So, hopefully these basic tips will help inspire you to think through weather and include that in your overlanding preparation for future trips!
Here are some quick links to some of the products I mentioned in the episode.

For those of you jumping to the description or to the comments to come at me about how you don't need to buy anything to get out exploring, you're right and I say that in the first 20 seconds of the video, :D.
However, after you've been on 3-5 trips, you'll likely get a pretty good handle on how your setup performs and then you'll be ready to think about where to invest your budget to improve your trips.

In this episode, I wanted to talk a bit about all of the arguments and gatekeeping that I keep seeing in all of the overlanding groups and pages. I'll talk a bit about what I think overlanding really is (just my opinion, settle down), why I think it's dumb argument to try to tell people whether they're "real" overlanders or not, and finally my thoughts on why overlanding should be inclusive and welcoming.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic, so check out the social media links and Newbie Overlanders link below to join the conversation!

In this episode of the podcast, I'm going to talk through three things that I've specifically learned/improved through my time overlanding. These are things that have helped me in my personal life, at work, and more.
If you've been thinking about getting into overlanding, but have felt intimidated, check out this video to see where I started on some of these topics versus where I have come.
I hope it's interesting and helpful for you!

In this episode, with the recent July 4th holiday, I wanted to talk a bit about the pros and cons of going camping or overlanding during or around national holidays.
If you haven't experienced it and have questions about what the crowds are like, how hard it is to find a spot (both dispersed or reserved), and what the folks that go out over a holiday weekend are usually like, behavior-wise, this is the episode for you.
Check out the full episode for all the info and drop you thoughts in the comments below! Do you agree or disagree? What's been your experience around holidays?
