  • https://Art2Life.com - Bibby Gignilliat had stopped painting years ago because she had a critical teacher who made her feel like she was talentless. So she spent years as a computer programmer, worked in adventure travel, and even ran her own cooking business. By all measures of success, she was successful.

She continuously pushed her dream of being an artist and having her own gallery show aside. Today, Bibby and I are painting in her studio. She’s an accomplished mixed-media artist who incorporates her travels into her art.

It all started because she was willing to push aside what she’d been told about herself and started listening to herself. Bibby shares her path back to her art—and how she let her intuition lead the way—in this episode of the Art2Life Podcast.

  • https://Art2Life.com - As an artist, the thought of not knowing what comes next is bothersome. But “not knowing” is often necessary. Sometimes we have to spend time pondering what’s next.

We need to give ourselves space and time to sit with the discomfort of uncertainty. We have to get comfortable with the phenomenon of doing and not knowing.

I’m painting right now. I’m doing one thing at a time, uncertain what I will do next. I’m simply being present with what I’m making.

In this episode of the Art2Life Podcast, I explore finding clarity by sitting in a place of not knowing. Join me on the journey of not knowing.

  • https://Art2Life.com - Rukmini Poddar is an artist, educator, and designer. Her creative passion lies at the intersection of emotional wellness and creative storytelling. She is an artist who draws feelings.

She admits that stumbled into art. It wasn’t a planned career path. When Rukmini graduated college, she was burnt out. As a graphic designer, she spent much of her time on the computer. She wanted to get her hands dirty, so she dove into the 100-Day Project. She started playing with watercolors and made abstract doodles. She started drawing her feelings to express her creativity.

She’d post them on Instagram. Before she knew it, it became the anchor for her day. By the end of the 100 days, her life was changed. People would comment and say, “I’ve always felt this way and I’ve never had words for it.” Something extremely personal to her became universal. She found a community that resonated with her work. It became her guiding light.

Drawing her feelings led to a passion for art she never knew existed. She shares more about her journey to finding herself and helping others connect with their emotions in this wonderful conversation.

  • https://Art2Life.com - Silvia Poloto emigrated to the United States in the 90s. It was here that she stumbled on a knack for art—and it changed the trajectory of her life.

When Silvia was finishing her Master’s Degree, she started cutting out pieces from magazines and making collages. She started working with metal. Looking to learn more, she signed up for a class called “Metal Arts,” only to realize it was a jewelry-making class.

She spent her time in class creating small sculptures with the material. Her instructor was fascinated. She shared her art with him and he was impressed, convinced she had an art degree instead of one in engineering. That’s when she realized she might have a future in art.

She taught herself metalworking, painting and photography. With every subsequent work of art, her style evolves. She allows her inner self to direct the next piece.

  • https://Art2Life.com - The power dynamics at play in an organization can often make it difficult—if not impossible—to form connections with coworkers and superiors. It’s easy to let prejudices and insecurity get in the way. But an environment of collaboration and trust is key to successful organizations.

The truth is that as macho or hardened as someone seems, we’re all fragile. The human experience is challenging. Compassion and empathy are exceedingly important—yet exceedingly rare.

Adam Rosendahl combines music and art in a group setting that leads to groundbreaking and transformative results: connection between strangers. Everyone has a desperate longing to feel seen and heard.

  • https://Art2Life.com - Danielle LaPorte loves simplicity. The closer she gets to a heart-centered life, the more she craves it. It’s become a spiritual practice. She lets go of anything she hasn’t used for 6–12 months. She doesn’t buy mindlessly. Instead, everything in her home has a story, a reason behind buying it. Everything matters.

Simplicity requires letting go. It requires loosening your attachment to things that don’t matter. Are you able to take this approach in your art and your life? To be willing to make a different mark, make a mistake, and start over?

  • https://Art2Life.com - Are you struggling to cast a vision for yourself, your art, or your business? Has imposter syndrome taken hold? Do you feel confident that you can make your dreams a reality?

Suzi Dafnis walked into a room with 30 other business owners about to start the art class I was offering our mastermind group, admittedly incredibly nervous. Though confident in any business environment, she felt like she shrunk into her feet when she walked into my class.

Yet she came out of the class having created something she’s proud of and found that she enjoyed the process. Today, Suzi joins me in the studio to talk about her journey in business. She firmly believes that if you have a dream that you believe in—and get a plan in place to make it happen—you can achieve it.

But just like you have to take your brush and make the first mark on a canvas, you have to take a step toward creating the business of your dreams. Join us to learn how to take that first step.

  • https://Art2Life.com - Raquel Baldocchi is a mixed-media contemporary artist in the Bay Area. Raquel draws inspiration from her grandmother, who created textile art, made beautiful scrapbooks, and crafted ornaments every year for Christmas.

Raquel’s college boyfriend’s mother was a printmaker. She influenced Raquel so much that Raquel pursued a degree in printmaking. Now, every piece of art that Raquel creates is infused with a story.

In this episode, Raquel and I have a conversation in my studio while we’re creating. Join us by bringing along a sketchbook or something you are working on, and allow yourself to be inspired to create something new.

  • https://Art2Life.com - Louise Fletcher is an artist and teacher, gifted at helping her students connect with their emotions and unleash their artistic voice. But she wasn’t always aware of her gift.

She genuinely thought she had no artistic talent because she couldn’t sit in front of a canvas and execute a vision. When she learned that she could play with paint, and find joy in the process, it changed everything.

In this heartfelt conversation, we uncover the depths of finding one’s self-worth and embrace the concept that we must express every emotion in our art and life.

  • https://Art2Life.com - In this special throwback episode of Art2Life, we revisit one of our most beloved conversations with award-winning art critic Jerry Saltz.

Making art is hard enough, but hearing from others whether it is good or not is especially so. Every artist I know already has, hard-wired within them, a pretty tough critic. I certainly do. So I never have been particularly drawn to listening to more of them. I know, of course, art criticism is essential in the art world. I get all that, but truthfully, I have always been a little leery of outside criticism in case it made me stop making art. It feels safer to hear more from those who are actually making art. They were the ones I thought whose voices mattered. At least for me.

But today you are going to meet an art critic. But not the kind I imagined. Not at all. His name is Jerry Saltz. He is the Pulitzer Prize-winning, senior art critic and columnist for New York Magazine. He has a bajillion followers on Instagram and is a New York Times bestselling author. He also cares a ton about art and especially artists. Which isn’t surprising because he was one. He switched mid-career because, ironically, his inner critic wouldn’t leave him alone, and it all became too much.

Jerry is whip-smart, funny, and at times, daringly truthful. But this is what I love about him: he just tells the truth. Or rather his truth. That is rare these days. Jerry is the artist's art critic. He is so on our side and wants nothing more for us than to simply stay together and above all else, to keep making our art. Join me now for this startlingly vulnerable and caring conversation about art and life with one of the most revered voices in the art world: Jerry Saltz.

  • https://Art2Life.com - Artists are always asking questions. When you’re always questioning, it’s only natural that a lack of clarity arises. Your soul is always pulling you to the unknown.

We’re living in a world where opportunities are boundless. The curiosity to see what’s possible is a driving force. When you’re in congruence with who you are and what you’re making, it’s the best feeling in the world. And when the expression doesn’t match the creature, you must change.

Clarity is found through missteps, adventures, and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to see a world of possibilities. In this conversation, Noah and I walk through the journey of finding clarity in life and art.
