Joseph R. Haynes is an award winning barbecue cook, a Kansas City Barbeque Society Master Certified Barbecue Judge, and an author. He also authored the Virginia Barbecue Proclamation that was unanimously passed by the Virginia State Legislature in 2016. His latest tome, From Barbycu to Barbecue: The Untold History of an American Tradition offers a fresh new look at the story of southern barbecuing. The book includes an analysis of historical sources throughout the Americas that show that the southern barbecuing technique is as unique to the United States as jerked hog is to Jamaica and barbacoa is to Mexico. A recipe in each chapter provides a contemporary interpretation of a historical technique. Joined by guest co-host, Doug Scheiding, we all learn a lot about the history of the cooking method we love.

Josh Schaub is the commissioner of the American Association of Professional Baseball. Kristopher really enjoys barbecuing and is seeing where this takes him, but he is happy to just be doing it for fun and to experience the journey.

  • Discussing Memphis In May and Smokeslam With Doug Scheiding and Ray Sheehan and Author of The Fenway Effect, David Krell

Doug Scheiding and Ray Sheehan are well known to Baseball and BBQ listeners and return to the show, not as guest co-hosts, but as guests. Doug was at Memphis In May where he conducted demonstrations for Home Depot, cooking on a Traeger grill and Ray was at Smokeslam presenting cooking demonstrations as well. Doug has a new lineup of rubs and they can be ordered by going to https://roguecookers.com/ and Ray has his newly branded rubs and sauces and they can be ordered at https://www.raysheehan.com/
David Krell is an author and baseball historian. His latest work is, The Fenway Effect: A Cultural History of the Boston Red Sox. As stated on various websites where the book is sold, "To be a part of Red Sox Nation is to be a hopeful romantic who neither betrays loyalty nor surrenders hope in the direst of circumstances. From Bangor to Back Bay, New Englanders endure in baseball matters. And life. The team’s history has intersected with the history of Boston and well beyond it, through the Curse of the Bambino, the military service of Ted Williams during World War II, and the Boston Marathon bombing. The Fenway Effect chronicles these stories and others that have built the incredible saga of the Boston Red Sox. How did Cheers depict the passion of Boston’s sports fans? Why is Narragansett beer so important to New England? What did the Boston press really think about Red Sox owner Harry Frazee selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees? Even Yankees fans will tip their caps to the rich impact of the Red Sox on music, movies, branding, broadcasting, and more. Plus, there’s a chapter focusing on the oral history of Red Sox fans, some of whom share anecdotes that are funny, insightful, and heartwarming."

  • Author of The House That Ruth Built, Kelly Bennett and Big Unc's, Nick Wilson, Maker of Premium Sauces and Rubs

Kelly Bennett is the author of many award-winning books for children. However, her latest book, The House That Ruth Built can be enjoyed by children as well as adults. Illustrated by Susanna Covelli, it is as stated quite eloquently on her website, a "historical non-fiction picture book celebrating baseball, Babe Ruth & the first baseball stadium in the world. The House That Ruth Built recreates the excitement—on and off the field—of that 1923 opening day game in Yankee Stadium. Prior to the game, legendary slugger Babe Ruth said he’d “give a year of his life to hit a homer” that day. In the bottom of the third inning, two on, two out, the big question was: Could the Babe come through?" So much great information is found within the books pages. Go to https://www.kellybennett.com/ for more information on Kelly Bennett and her books.
Nick Wilson AKA Big Unc is a maker of premium sauces and rubs with bottles adorned with very creative artwork. Nick started out by creating a beautiful backyard kitchen with the intention of being a caterer. However, town codes changed his plans, he did a 180 by coming up with an alternative and now is the proud owner of the Big Unc brand. Taken from his website, "We don't measure our ingredients here, and we cook to temp as opposed to cooking to time. The idea is to be comfortable with getting creative and to experiment with new flavor profiles. Fresh groceries and proper preparation are the keys to a great meal! After years of developing our flavor profiles, we have decided to release our seasoning blends to the world through Big Unc BBQ Rubs." • Barbecue Renaissance Man, Carey Bringle AKA The Peg Leg Porker and Prolific Best-Selling Author, Peter Golenbock, Writer of Some of Sports Biggest Works

Carey Bringle developed a love of barbecue when he was young and he still remembers family gatherings at iconic barbecue places. At age 17, he lost a leg to cancer, but recovered from the disease, and after success for years on the competition BBQ circuit, celebrated his second chance at life by naming his restaurant Peg Leg Porker when it opened in Nashville in 2013. His Peg Leg Porker sauces and rubs, a new line of professional-grade home smokers, and Peg Leg Porker Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskies have expanded the BBQ into a full-fledged brand. Carey is even an author as he is the writer of the book, BBQ For Dummies.

Peter Golenbock is a prolific author, known for his many books about baseball and other sports with many becoming bestsellers. The Bronx Zoo, which Golenbock coauthored with Yankees pitcher Sparky Lyle was a New York Times bestseller and, in 2003, was chosen as one of Sports Illustrated's Top 100 Sports Books Of All Time. In addition to Lyle, Golenbock has written books with Graig Nettles, Billy Martin, Bobby Valentine, and many others. • Author, Mitchell Nathanson Discusses His Newest Book, Under Jackie's Shadow and Chef Ray Sheehan Presents A Special Father's Day Gift Guide

Mitchell Nathanson is a Professor of Law at Villanova University and the author of numerous books and articles on baseball. He is a two-time winner of the McFarland-SABR Award, presented in recognition of the best historical or biographical baseball articles of the year. He returns to the show to discuss his newest book, Under Jackie's Shadow: Voices of Black Minor Leaguers Baseball Left Behind. "Under Jackie’s Shadow is a portal to the hidden world of Minor League baseball in the era just after Jackie Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. It features "oral histories of Black minor league baseball players who played in the post-Jackie Robinson era, from the 1960s to the mid-1970s, who were figuratively and literally left behind as both baseball and the country claimed a newfound racial progressiveness." "The players’ experiences in baseball’s Minor Leagues in the 1960s and 1970s do not comport with the largely celebratory tales the leagues like to tell about themselves. The Black Minor League players remained largely invisible men—most of whom couldn’t be named by even the most devoted baseball followers. Based on Mitchell Nathanson’s interviews, Under Jackie’s Shadow uses the players’ own words to tell the unvarnished story of what it was like to be a Black baseball player navigating the wilds of professional baseball’s Minor Leagues following the integration of the Major Leagues. Harrowing, beautiful, and maddening, these stories are vital to our understanding of race not only in baseball but in the United States as a whole."

Ray Sheehan also known as Chef Ray is an award winning maker of barbecue sauces and rubs as well as an award winning cookbook author. He has been a frequent guest and co-host on this show and presents a special Father's Day Gift Guide. Ray has rebranded his company and sauces and rubs under the new label, Chef Ray Sheehan and you can find all his products, including his two cookbooks at https://www.raysheehan.com/
