  • In this episode, I discuss the closing of the bones ceremony, a postpartum practice that brings women back to themselves after giving birth. We explore the cultural and historical significance of the ceremony, highlighting its presence in various cultures around the world. I interview Japjeet, who teaches the closing of the bones ceremony through the lineage of Ecuadorian shaman and healer RocĂo AlarcĂłn. We discuss the different techniques and variations of the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of postpartum care and support for new mothers. Closing the Bones is a postpartum healing ceremony that involves a combination of massage, energy work, and wrapping the body with cloth. The ceremony focuses on bringing fluidity and movement back to the body, particularly the abdomen, hips, and pelvis. It helps to release tension, realign organs, and promote relaxation. The wrapping of the body with rebozos (traditional Mexican shawls) creates a sense of deep relaxation and allows for reflection and integration of the birth experience. Closing the Bones is not only a physical practice but also an emotional and mental journey of self-discovery and empowerment as a mother.
