Once again, my old buddy Lucas joins me on the pod to dive into his passion for surfing. It really is a beautiful thing when somebody finds their passion and surfing is definitely Lucas's. He even started a channel vlogging his life as a dire hard surfer enthusiast/full time medical student. Go check out his content over on YouTube! Lets get @lucashildreth5692 to 5k Subs! The other takeaway I recently took from Lucas was his habit of running at least 1 mile every day. He must be over 400 days by now, but it takes a lot of dedication and more importantly, discipline, to stay focused on your goals and stay committed to your word. He said he would run a mile a day and he's stuck to it. That's what matters. Since being exposed to his routine, I have joined his challenge and restarted my fitness journey. Day 41 is on 6/18/23, I wonder how long the streak lasts... Enjoy!

Something I am betting our species' future on is the power of the internet. On a whim, one of my high school football captains, Dawson, starting posting videos of himself doing short ice baths on Instagram. All of a sudden we're at Day 73 and counting, and Dawson is just getting started. The internet exposed him to this practice and the internet is holding him accountable to his new habit. Taking ice baths, and other holistic health practices, are blowing up online right now. It gives me hope that we can grow into the next century with an intelligent approach to life on this planet. Enjoy!

After a long wait for both of us, Sarah finally joins me on the Pod. Sarah works remote for a Think Tank out of D.C. that focuses on prison reform. Among the many really important issues in our country, unjust and sometimes unlawful imprisonment has some of the most extreme consequences on our country... Studies show that a lack of father figures in the community has a greater negative effect on young boys and men than the lack of a father itself. Along with growing up in and around the Capital, Sarah has a unique insight into the machine of our Government. She has seen the corruption of the establishment and inspiring work of the few good one's first hand, and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. Enjoy!

The conclusion of the 2022-23 season is here, and I just had to talk to the family football savant. We give our picks for the big game and talk some of the biggest moves of the unlucky teams who started their offseason weeks ago... Including the fallout of the Broncos disastrous season, Aaron Rodgers' landing spot, Lamar Jackson's future and more. Enjoy!

Welcome back! In the pod's triumphant return, Connor Mudrick, formerly known as my first guest, and I have a good ole fashioned conversation about how things have changed since our college years; the differences between the lifestyles in the West and the East; and I ask him something I've asked dozens of people around my age. Suspiciously, he gives the exact same response I've received every time I ask... Enjoy!

The NFL season is over, and what a season it was! Javi joins me once more to recap the greatest 5 game stretch in NFL playoff history; provide our picks for the game, spoiler alert: I was wrong; and speculate the future of the league including the head coaching hires, quarterback free agency, and our WAY too early picks for Super Bowl LVII. Enjoy!

As promised, I have brought back my family's NFL wizard to wrap up the NFL season. As Super Wild-Card Weekend approaches, Javi and I review our projected playoff scenarios from mid-season and compare them to the playoff bracket we find ourselves with. We discuss who we would want in the QB position for the next 5-10 years, as well as the most interesting head coaching vacancies for the upcoming season. Most importantly, we give our takes on who wins this weekend and answer the big question: who is going to make Super Bowl LVI? Enjoy!

For decades, athletes trained their bodies to compete at the peak of their physical capabilities. But recently, modern athletes have been able to achieve heights nobody thought possible by training their mind as well as their body. This side of sports is where we exceed our physical talent and achieve our true potential. Those who have mastered this aspect of their field inevitably rise to the top. Today's guest is in the center of our collective effort to understand mind in sport and is currently training athletes from 12 year old knuckleheads to former college football players preparing for the NFL Combine. Enjoy!

Today's episode is everything NFL. On Monday night we wrapped up week 8 of the NFL season, and as we enter the second half of the season, I thought it would be a great idea to have my cousin, Javi, on to dedicate a whole episode to sports talk. Javi has loved football for longer than I have and his knowledge base as a junior in high school is nothing short of remarkable. We get into a QB G.O.A.T. debate, make our picks for the AFC and NFC playoff picture, and of course, our analyses of the season thus far. Enjoy!

Today I finally was able to sit down with Matt Benardis for an excellent, targeted discussion on the religious themes that I've been pondering in the last year, since our last discussion. We talked about his faith, and how building and then fostering a flourishing relationship with God has positively impacted his life; how discipline and sacrifice towards any noble pursuit is God-like in nature; and I describe my theory on the Wall of Ignorance. For me, these types of focused and driven conversations are the peak of what podcasts are capable of, and we hit another level on this one. Enjoy! -

Today's guest is one of my favorite people to talk to because he has such a unique perspective on life. Atticus discusses a big idea that he has that solved two birds with one stone, AND it's sustainable. He is one of the most resilient people I've ever met... and he raps. I absolutely believe that he can make this happen, did I mention he raps? Enjoy!

One aspect of this podcast I was excited about most was the opportunity to stay in touch with some of my favorite professors from college. This episode is the first of hopefully many great conversations with former professors from Holy Cross. Steve was my American Film professor who exposed me to some of the greatest American Films in the last 100 years. My favorites from the class were Sunset Boulevard (Billy Wilder, 1950), Something Wild (Jonathan Demme, 1986), The Fabulous Baker Boys (Steve Kloves, 1989), Personal Best (Robert Towne, 1982), and the most tragic for last, Moonlight (Barry Jenkins, 2016). These 5 were among 34 of the best films I've ever seen and watching them/discussing them expanded my ability to appreciate films, if nothing else. Thank you again, Steve, for taking the time right before the semester kicked off, I look forward to your Best of 2 Years Ago List every year. Enjoy!

Today, Bradley Hilton makes his third appearance on CodyCast101. Since the last I talked to him, he was packing up for a road trip for the winter months covering the West coast from Washington to Baja. Bradley is a man who lives a very unique life and I'm grateful to get the chance to pick his brain and learn about the experiences that shaped his life through this podcast. We recapped his trip from the Grand Lake, CO to Bend, OR to Baja, Mexico and back. Interwoven throughout this recap, we discussed, Climate Change, psychedelics, diet, life, and so much more. Enjoy!

The first episode of CodyCast101 was posted on June 4, 2020 with Connor Mudrick, a freshman year Montserrat classmate of mine and a member of the Mens Rowing Team. Other than that, we didn't know each other well during our time on the Hill. That changed during Stage 1 of the road trip home in Worcester, MA, back at the Hill. Connor just happened to be the roommate of the friend who's couch I was to be occupying for the next half a week. I wanted to start the podcast there and he was the most eager to sit down with me, for which I'm grateful. And now that a year has passed since my first conversation on CodyCast101, it seemed fitting to have him back on the show to reflect on the crazy last 12 months we've all had; and to reboot this podcast, my mind refreshed, and refocused. It was great to catch up with Connor last week, and consequently, it gave rise to a promise to return in June of 2022! To hash it out once again in the 3rd installment of an annual tradition. Enjoy

Lucas Hildreth is in his first year of medical school at NY Institute of Technology, but he's much more well known around the world as a surfer. Lucas was one of the first people I met at Holy Cross and was always the hardest working guy on the team. A true class act who pushed me to match his work ethic, we caught up on each others lives, got into the anatomy of our bodies and various injuries, the intricacies of our brains and more. Enjoy!

Qi-gong is a millennia old system of coordinated body-posture and movement, breathing and meditation used for health, spirituality and martial-arts training. It is literally translated as qi (or chi) = energy and gong = practice, qi-gong = energy practice. For me personally, it has opened my eyes to the asymmetry that years of athletics has done to my body. Through Kate's zoom classes, I feel like I know so much more about my own body and the process of getting myself back to 100%. Kate and her partner, Akbar, host their class through Healing Circles Langley, an online one-stop-shop for self care. They've got multiple healing circles, a blog, and a growing community all of whom are passionate about safe spaces and healing. Enjoy!

Atticus Kane, also known as his stage name Atti K, is an aspiring rapper from Worcester, MA. Fittingly, We met sophomore year of college during a freestyle session in our boy Travy's truck. Atticus grew up in a completely different world than I did, surrounded by things I didn't even think existed. And he was able to overcome those obstacles and land at a very challenging institution like Holy Cross, something I've always respected him for. I've always been a huge hip-hop fan and his future rap career was something we both became passionate about over the course of our sophomore year. We would talk about hip hop and how he envisioned himself emerging into the rap game, write rhymes together, and whats next for Atti K. Today's conversation is much of the same. We get into what inspires him, his message as an artist, lyrical/poetic rappers vs. mumble rappers, goals, Atti K's next song, and more. Enjoy!

After I met Cam in his backyard shop last summer, I knew I had to talk to him on the show. He and his wife founded C&K Archery roughly a year and a half ago and today they're on the precipice of expanding out of their house and into a new shop with an indoor range. With goals focused on expanding the sport in our youth and bringing together the archery community that reside in the mountains of CO, they're on their way towards becoming prominent members of the community. We discussed the start of his passion for archery and how it led to the creation of his own small business, how flow states play a roll in the shot process, the current state of our country (something I'm very interested in), personality types, gun safety laws, hunting ethics, effective communicators in our politics, the definition of authenticity, and an excellent idea for a hot dog stand... Today on the pod, I sit down with a fellow ski instructor at the resort, Jack Martin. Last week, we took our PSIA Alpine Level 1 exam. Day one is Movement Analysis; Day 2 is Skiing; and Day 3 is Teaching. Since Jack sleeps in his car when he comes up for the weekend from Boulder, I let him crash at my place during the exam and we really got into it on this one. Jack is getting his Ph.D. in Programing Languages through the Computer Science department and comes up the pass during the weekend to teach little kids how to ski, not a bad side gig if you ask me.
On this episode, we drink Weihenstephaners as Jack describes his research in Programing Languages, the problem with our current political representation, avalanches, the extreme endurance races of Megavalanche and the Tour de France, and we answer the biggest question I've ever asked on this pod: What if LeBron James was a skier? Enjoy!
