East to West World Music
with Eitan Battat (S4 | E159)
Opening Music: MFSB (as always), the signature sound of East to West.
WERB 107.5 music to chill and vibe with.
Hello to all my friends around the United States and internationally. You are on the right URL at the right time on another program of East to West, and this is Eitan Battat.
I don't know about you, but for me, time is passing at warp speed. So many things are happening all around, and information is coming at you nonstop from everywhere. In between all the chaos and the daily routine in our business, so much pain and so much suffering. We all as humanity are so far removed from most of the pain that doesn't really apply to us or not in our neighborhood, or not in or around our immediate circles. On one hand, if they will be affected by all the pain and suffering in the world, how could we ever find one moment of joy?
On the other hand, we are oblivious to almost everything that's happening unless it has an immediate effect on our lives. Take, for example, the bridge collapse in Baltimore. When somebody speaks about it, you hear, “Oh my God, it's terrible. Wow. It was a six-lane highway! What did you want for lunch?” I’m sorry, but we immediately move on to whatever is important at that particular moment. About a dozen people perished in that disaster. Never mind the half a million people that their commute to work has now been affected for an extra hour or two, who knows? We see it doesn't affect us, so we are not concerned, it’s somebody else's problem. 7 Humanitarian aid workers got killed by mistake in Gaza. Oh wow, that's terrible. We move on. It doesn't affect us. We can't change that. That's humanity.
However, I'm suggesting that the near and dear to be a lot more sensitive to our surrounding, be aware and be kind. You never know when your words, your donation, your smile can really cheer and change someone else’s pain. All in addition to finding joy with everything that we do. I hope you find some joy and some solace with some smooth new music that I got for you right here on East to West and my reflection on kindness.
So stay with me for the next two hours, I promise you I'm awesome.

Welcome to our listeners globally and Coast to Coast in the US. You are at the right URL WERB radio.com, at the right time. And you are on another program of East to West, and this is Eitan Battat.
Well, here we are, one more week have gone by at the speed of light. We have even pushed the clock one hour forward. We are springing ahead creating his artificial jet lag. It seems that it really doesn't matter what hour of the day it is, it's always a good time to slow down. However, sometimes it makes it very difficult, when you have people around you, having an attitude, have a sourpuss face, trying to tell you that they are having a bad day or don't like what you are thinking or what you are doing.
Willian Shakespeare says, “There's nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
Honestly, attitude of the people around me “I'm more important than they feel, more important than education, then money, than circumstances, than their failures or successes.”
I can't stand a bad or negative attitude. In fact, I try to distance myself from those with that bad attitude. What's really killing me is that they don't understand that a positive attitude on their part, causes a chain reaction of positive thought, that can change events and the outcome for themselves. Just a simple change in attitude can spark incredible, extraordinary, results. After all, attitude is that little thing that makes such a big difference. I have no idea why I’m talking to you about attitude, maybe because I was subject to some bad attitude and negative vibes throughout the week til now. Maybe I'm trying to just offload it, undust myself before it sticks to me so I can sit here and share some great music on this upcoming east to west program.
Stay with me for the next 2 hours, I promise you soothing, chilled, vibey, music that you would love.

Intro:
"I must be totally honest with you ...
The slow movement doesn’t work well for me. I can slow down periodically, but not consistently. I fall into that trap of Quick call. Quick meeting. Quick question. And frankly, what’s up with that quick question. I have yet to find a real quick question. And if there was a quick question, nobody ever phrased it can I ask you a quick question. It’s more like should I turn left or right? Take a left. That’s a quick question. All the quick questions I have experienced, were not quick. In fact, they were quite complex and involved, and requiring a set of other questions by all parties. I got to get off of that dialogue. Please don’t ask me the quick question, nor ask me if I got a minute because a minute always drags for five and 10 and sometime an hour.
Hell, I’m trying to slow down and I’m not up for those quick quick calls quick meetings. This upcoming program of East west will certainly slow you down. I will not ask you a quick question or ask you if you have a minute or two.
I’m just gonna ask you to relax sit back and enjoy the journey from East to West this time really slowly."

Opening Music: MFSB (as always), the signature sound of East to West.
Introduction by Eitan Battat:
The Greatest Night in Pop
I happened to watch a brand-new release on Netflix. It’s called The Greatest Night In Pop. “The Greatest Night in Pop” unveils the remarkable journey behind the creation of the iconic song “USA for Africa.” The song was recorded on January 29, 1985. Yes, just about 39 years plus a week from music lover like me.
For music lovers, like me, which love to hear the stories behind the songs.
"The Greatest Night in Pop" unveils the remarkable journey behind the creation of the iconic song "USA for Africa.", this was one of the best documentaries I ever seen.
So many challenges. Starting with writing the song itself. So, Inspired by Bob Geldoff, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie got together and tried to write a song. They wanted to bring Stevie Wonder to help them. However, Stevie did not respond to any of their calls. it was all happening while Lionel Richie was preparing to be the host of the American music award, and Michael Jackson was producing his new album. They but were finally able to come up with something the Quincy Jones, the producer of the song, loved and almost fell off his chair.
The other challenge was and getting commitment from the artists. Each one of them had a busy schedule. One by one, they got the artists commitments and once they had the artist commitment, Quincy Jones team had to study each artist, unique style and range to sequence the properly in the various parts of the song.
The final product, as you know it, is perfect, and it is a result of hours of listening to the artist’s songs and understanding the artist’s vocal range and style.
Having so many artists in the same studio also created another challenge. Each artist used to have an assistant next to him or her and had its own unique style and habits of recording.
Quincy Jones realizes that and puts up a big sign that says check your ego at the door. The actual recording of the chorus and the various solos took 10 hours. They started at 10 in the evening and ended up at eight in the morning.
The result is a timeless creation that resonates even more deeply with the awareness of the stories and challenges behind it. As Lionel Richie says it and sums it up, we stayed up all night to create something that would live forever.
Personally, I think it’s one of the best songs ever recorded, and now that I’m aware of the story and the challenges that created this song, I love it even more.
“USA for Africa” documentary was created in loving memory of all the artists and contributors that have passed away.

Eitan features the music of: The Doors, John Illsley, Jimmy Buffett, Hugo Westerdahl, and many more!
Opening Music: MFSB (as always), the signature sound of East to West.
Introduction by Eitan Battat:
"I’ve mentioned in my last episode that I am slowing down. Yes, I am.
Our chaotic world is stuck in ‘fast forward’. We’re trying to cram so much into our day as Carrie Fischer and I’m quoting:
“Even instant gratification takes too long”.
Slowing down involves savoring the small moments, taking a deliberate pace in daily activities, and finding joy in the process rather than rushing toward the end goal. It’s a mindful approach, emphasizing quality over speed.
In his Ted Talk, Carl Honore’ says:
We used to dial and now we speed dial.We used walk and now we speed walk.We used to read and now we speed read as well as speed date.
I’m reading Carl’s book - the Slow Fix and I will share more thoughts, ideas, and nuggets from that book as you continue to listen to my program. So, I am truly discovering my inner tortoise. What does it mean daily?
I’ll tell you what it means. It means waking up earlier, so I have more time to eat my breakfast slowly sitting down and not standing.
It means I may take a longer road to work. Not the longest. Just longer.
It means I may not seek the shorter lane in the supermarket or on the road. Been there, done that!
And please take me off the fast lane.
So as always East to West program will have some ‘slow jams’, music to shift down and slow your pace so you can truly enjoy the music, be mindful and nurture your soul."
