In early June 2024, I had a second conversation with Stephen Corrigan, who is a friend, teacher, and sports enthusiast from Canada. He is a father and small business owner. Here is that interview.

EASY ENGLISH GRAMMAR POINT for EPISODE #8

For today’s episode, please notice how Steve and Kris use the words “if” and “when”. These two words are used a lot in English. “IF” is used to introduce a possible or unreal situation or condition and “WHEN” is used to refer to the time of a future situation or condition that we are sure about.

    For example:

“If I am not busy tomorrow, I will go kayaking.”

    and

“When I’m older, I want to start playing more golf.”

EASY ENGLISH USAGE POINT for EPISODE #8

The second thing I would like to focus on in today’s interview is how Steve and Kris use the word “originally” to describe a situation that existed first.

    For example:

“I love in Japan now, but I am originally from Canada.”

EASY ENGLISH GRAMMAR POINT for EPISODE #4

In today’s interview, please listen for when Saran and Kris use some common English sequencers. For example:

    First, I will study English.

    Next, I will study science.

Finally, I will take a break and relax.

EASY ENGLISH USAGE POINT for EPISODE #4

The second thing I would like to focus on in today’s interview is the use of the phrase, “I guess”. This is used when you are expressing something that you are not sure about. For example:

It’s cloudy this evening, I guess it will rain tomorrow.

    or

You look tired, so you want to go to sleep, I guess.

So now, sit back, relax, and enjoy this interview with Haris.

In November 2022, I had a great conversation with Saran, who is a student from Singapore, currently doing an internship in Nagano, Japan. He is interested in programming. Here is that interview.

EASY ENGLISH GRAMMAR POINT for EPISODE #3

In today’s interview, please listen for when Saran and Kris use the simple past tense. Past tense adds “ed” to the end of verbs in a sentence. There are also irregular past tense verbs. For example:

Regular past tense verb - I stayed at a hotel last year.

Irregular past tense verb - I began class yesterday.

The past tense of “be” - It was hot yesterday.

EASY ENGLISH USAGE POINT for EPISODE #3

The second thing I would like to focus on in today’s interview is the use of tag questions. Tag questions are short questions we add to the end of statements to make a question easily. The general rule is that if a statement is positive, the tag question is negative. If the statement is negative, the tag question is positive. For example:

    It’s cold today, isn’t it?

    or

It’s not very hot today, is it?

I think this is the easiest way to make questions in English.

So now, sit back, relax, and enjoy this interview with Saran.

I will have to stay at home tomorrow.

At the end of the podcast, there will be some questions for you to try and answer.

EASY ENGLISH VOCABULARY POINT for EPISODE #2

The second thing I would like to focus on is the use of special phrases at the beginning of statements that tell the listener that you are telling them something true. These phrases that are found in today’s podcast are

    “Truthfully speaking…”,

    “To be honest…”, and

    “Technically speaking…”.

All three of these phrases tell the listener that you are about to say some important truth about the topic. So, please try to listen for when one of the speakers uses these phrases.
