In this full episode of "Exploring Minds", Michele Carroll and Desh Amila discuss the current state of conversation globally, given Desh's experience with facilitating and moderating events focused on the art of conversation.
-
A product of immigration, integration, and innovation, Sri Lankan born, Desh Amila, started from humble beginnings before realizing his dream was in the West, and migrated to Melbourne, Australia in 2000. Desh has since pioneered his career as an entrepreneur, entertainer, and educator on a global scale.
After graduating from Melbourne’s Deakin University with a Bachelor of Arts (Media Arts: Screen Studies and Photography) in 2005, Desh soon realized that this was merely his first step into a world of many successes, many more uncertainties, painful growths and profound realizations.
With a desire to inspire, Desh is on a mission to educate, entertain and enhance the lives of those he connects with. At no point has his career been a simple, single entity – it has always been multifaceted and ever-evolving. From rubbing shoulders with celebrity innovators, to a gradual transition from entertainment to education, before finally bringing the two together, Desh’s career and life story track the journey from consumer, to communicator, to creator. Most recently in 2018, Desh has launched This Is 42. An amalgam of innovation, optimism, and humour, 42 celebrates intelligence in all its diversity through holding events that explore new horizons in fields such as art, science, design, sports, and music. The high calibre speakers leave audiences smarter, sharper, and more inspired than when they walked in. This is 42 connects through tech, and educates through events, and the not-for-profit is also set to launch a digital platform that connects it’s audiences into an inspired and idea-driven community. Furthermore, 42 will donate a portion of ticket sales to send young people to school and foster the next generation of big thinkers.

In this full episode of "Exploring Minds", Lenore Skenazy dives into "Helicopter Culture" and how modern day parenting is affecting our kids.
-
A journalist by trade, Lenore spent 14 years at The New York Daily News as a reporter-turned-opinion columnist, and two more at The New York Sun. In 2008, after her column "Why I Let My 9 Year Old Ride the Subway Alone" landed her on every talk show from The Today Show to Dr. Phil, Lenore founded the book and blog “Free-Range Kids.” These launched the anti-helicopter parenting movement and garnered her the nickname, “America’s Worst Mom.” She got a promotion of sorts when Discovery Life tapped her to host the reality TV show, World’s Worst Mom. Lenore has lectured internationally from Microsoft to DreamWorks to the Sydney Opera House, and been profiled everywhere from The New York Times to The New Yorker. (She was even on The Daily Show!) Over the years, she has written for everyone from The Wall Street Journal to Mad Magazine. Yes -- Mad. After 10 years of watching parents nod along as she described how our culture has force-fed them fear, her aim at Let Grow is to turn agreement into action, making it easy and normal to give kids the same kind of freedom most of us had -- and loved. Lenore received her B.A. from Yale and her Master's Degree from Columbia. She lives in New York City with her husband and beloved computer. Her sons have (safely!) flown the coop.

In this full episode of "Exploring Minds", Michele Carroll and Chris Hogan dive into what it takes to become a millionaire. From compound interest, goal setting, discipline, and focus, Chris reveals that the reality is far different from the perception.
-
Chris Hogan might have been the most unlikely person to wind up working as a financial speaker. Why? Years ago, Chris was an All-American college football player who pushed future NFL players all over the field—far removed from the world of helping others find Financial Peace.
For Chris, the path from football to where he is today was a long, but meaningful, journey. While he was a vice president of a well-respected company, helping clients manage all phases of their businesses, he realized how so many families, marriages and children were being affected by money issues. He felt powerless as he sat behind his desk and watched his clients throw away their financial futures. Chris knew things needed to change.
That’s when he met Dave Ramsey, and his career found a new direction. Today, he helps spread Dave’s message of financial hope to audiences everywhere. An engaging and humorous speaker, Chris is an expert on subjects like mortgages, healthcare and investing. To promote financial education, he speaks at colleges and businesses, and conducts on-site training sessions at companies. Chris also works with high-profile clients, such as athletes, entertainers and businessmen, to help them develop a financial strategy to protect their wealth and secure their future.
Chris has had insurance licensure and banking certifications in three states. He holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown College and a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania. Chris lives with his wife, Melissa, and their three sons in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

In this full episode of "Exploring Minds", Michele Carroll and Cassie Jaye explore Cassie's experience with directing "The Red Pill", as well as her take on the current dynamic of gender politics, as well as her future plans.
#cassiejaye #genderequality #exploringminds

Cassie Jaye is a filmmaker based in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Founder of Jaye Bird Productions. She has directed and produced over a dozen films and commercials, but she is probably most known for her documentary 'The Red Pill' and her TEDx talk about making the film.
'The Red Pill' chronicles her journey as a feminist learning about the Men's Rights Movement. The film was released worldwide in March 2017 and has garnered multiple awards including the Women in Film Award at Hollywood DigiFest. Despite much praise and recognition for shedding light on an aspect of Gender Equality rarely discussed, the film was also the target of many petitions, protests, and censorship by theaters who caved to pressure to pull the film from their screens. Two years after the film's release, Cassie candidly opens up to Michele about her life since 'The Red Pill'.-

In this full episode of "Exploring Minds", Michele Carroll asks Yaron Brook to dissect his view of the world in the context of government and economies, covering Venezuela, Identity Politics, Modern Monetary Theory, hyperinflation and much more.
#michelecarroll #exploringminds #yaronbrook
-
Yaron Brook is chairman of the board of the Ayn Rand Institute. He wears many hats at the institute and travels extensively as ARI’s spokesman.
Brook can be heard weekly on The Yaron Brook Show, which airs live on the BlogTalkRadio podcast. He is also a frequent guest on national radio and television programs.
An internationally sought-after speaker and debater, Brook also pens works that make one think. As coauthor, with Don Watkins, of the national best-seller Free Market Revolution: How Ayn Rand's Ideas Can End Big Government, Brook and Watkins argue that the answer to our current economic woes lies not in "trickle-down government" but in Rand's inspiring philosophy of capitalism and self-interest. Last year, Brook and Watkins released a new book, Equal Is Unfair: America's Misguided Fight Against Income Inequality, a book that shows the real key to making America a freer, fairer, more prosperous nation is to protect and celebrate the pursuit of success―not pull down the high fliers in the name of equality. Brook is also contributing author to Neoconservatism: An Obituary for an Idea, Winning the Unwinnable War: America’s Self-Crippled Response to Islamic Totalitarianism and Big Tent: The Story of the Conservative Revolution — As Told by the Thinkers and Doers Who Made It Happen. He was a columnist at Forbes.com, and his articles have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Investor’s Business Daily and many other publications.
Brook was born and raised in Israel. He served as a first sergeant in Israeli military intelligence and earned a BSc in civil engineering from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. In 1987 he moved to the United States where he received his MBA and PhD in finance from the University of Texas at Austin; he became an American citizen in 2003. For seven years he was an award-winning finance professor at Santa Clara University, and in 1998 he cofounded BH Equity Research, a private equity and hedge fund manager, of which he is managing founder and director.
Brook serves on the boards of the Ayn Rand Institute, the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism and CEHE (Center for Excellence in Higher Education), and he is a member of the Association of Private Enterprise Education and the Mont Pelerin Society.
