2022 was a busy and interesting year for the Flamingo Family. In this episode we recap the year, the highs and lows - and let's admit that when you're a big pink bird there are few lows - and look forward to a great 2023. Firstborn went through a lot this year and we'll have more to say about that in future episodes. Secondborn and the whole family learned about her autism and have figured out how to adapt. Kat moved to Florida! And much more.
Goodbye 2022 and Hello 2023! -
Charlie and Rebeca recently noticed that the kids make and maintain friendships in completely different ways and on completely different levels than they did when they were young - back in the Stone Age. They have friends all over the country and the world who they may or may not have ever met in person. These aren't just surface friendships either, they KNOW these people intimately through their online interactions.
Listen in to hear how these friendships are made, formed, and nurtured. You also will get some tips on how to filter out toxic people, engage safely in this wild virtual world, and a little bit of how we USED to do it before the Internet made it possible to easily have world-spanning relationships. -

The 20 day, 4,500 mile Flamingo Family tour concludes with a pretty spectacular Independence Day in Nashville, TN, more hurricane dodging, and a couple of extra nights on the road. If you want to replicate part of all of this trip yourself, you can find the full itinerary at flamingofamily.com.

The Flamingo Family's RV journey continues through Saint Louis, Madison, WI, their major destination of The Mall of America, the Mark Twain Cave, and Nashville, TN. Poor Firstborn managed to pick up the stomach flu and the various RV parks and locations are rated for their facilities, insect population, and wild animal encounters. Another tropical storm rears her head to thwart the best-laid plans of the Flamingos. Listen in to see how it all turns out!

Dodging a tropical storm, marital spats about speed - the "Secondborn Turns 13!" road trip got off to a bumpy start, y'all. Thankfully, there was a warm bath in hot springs waiting at the end of this episode. (To see visuals from the trip, follow Mom on TikTok. She's @FlamingoFamMom)

The Flamingo Family discusses some of the greatest jingles from TV ads of the 1980s, explaining to the kids what a big piece of their cultural lives these were to the 80's generation. What do the kids think of these songs and ads from the era before binging, fast-forwarding through ads, and YouTube?
-
The Flamingo Family discusses the struggles that Secondborn has with hyperacusis, a rare condition where the sense of hearing is super sensitive and doesn't filter out background noise, making everyday tasks like going to school difficult. Then the Family tackles a conversation that the kids were having the other day about whether women should be eligible for conscription. Oh, and a baby duck may have hatched during the production of this episode. Listen in to find out more!

The girls recently became fascinated with the TV show "Ru Paul's Drag Race." With Katie live in studio, the Flaming Family had a good discussion about drag queens. Don't worry, it stays nice and clean, with lots of good conversation about who, what, and why some men might want to be drag queens. Also, the girls may be setting in motion a plot to have the guys done up in makeup, dresses, wigs, and heels... -
The guys take over the Flamingo Family studio for this episode to introduce their FlamFam side hustle - Men at Large!
In these special podcast episodes, YouTube videos, and more, the boys go on their paintball, fishing, and other adventures and talk about their plans for the near and far future. Will Firstborn spend a year after high school sailing the world with his friends? Can Charlie's knees handle another weekend on the paintball field? When will they finally get a boat? -
The Flamingo Family explores their favorite hobbies and pastimes, how COVID has changed those, and what they look forward to returning to in a post-COVID time. As usual, many rabbits are chased and squirrels (along with cats and dogs) interrupt an otherwise coherant discussion. -
The Flamingo Family introduces the newest member of the family, Katie! The expanded family talks about the social media apps they use, why they like particular ones, and teaching kids to be responsible with their social media usage. As usual, plenty of squirrels get chased and we get to learn things like what footballs are made of.
Welcome to the Family, Katie! -
The Flamingo Family is back for Season 2 and the kids are headed back to actual classrooms after most of a year in virtual school. Everyone is another year older, a few inches taller (except for Mom), and there are big plans afoot for 2021 and beyond. -
Shifting to virtual school when no one saw it coming is NOT the same as home school or "actual" virtual school (both of which the Flam Fam kids have done at one time or another). Here, we discuss the challenges and joys of the sudden shift in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders. (And it would be a Flam Fam chat if a few squirrels didn't get chased!)
-
I hate Trump! I love Trump! Nancy Pelosi sucks. Mitch McConnell is ruining the country. AGH!! Everybody's staying home, which means we're all on social, and the political rants are flying. The Flamingo Fam discusses a different way to talk politics. As usual, several rabbits are chased. (Also, the neighbor's car gets thoroughly ogled.)
-
With the Covid-19 quarantine underway, the Flam Fam discusses strategies to keep the kids busy, the stress down, and everyone healthy and happy. (And, as always, a few squirrels are chased along the way.) Enjoy!
-
This episode is drippy, no cap. The Flamingo Kiddos school the Flamingo Parents on the language and lingo of Gen Z. Are some of these even words?! As always, a squirrel or 7 is chased in the process...
-
The Flamingo Family discusses VAPING: what it is, how kids are getting away with it, and more. Also, the Flaming-lets are shocked to learn that Mom does actually go through their rooms looking for contraband while they're at school. (Don't all parents?!) As always, a squirrel or 7 is chased along the way.
-
The Flamingo Family discusses video games - what they like and which ones get Firstborn in trouble. Minecraft, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, CS:Go, PubG, and even Super Mario Bros are covered. The Flam Fam considers the intended and unintended effects of gaming on themselves and the world at large.
