Do you have trouble setting healthy boundaries? This is an extremely common challenge, especially when it comes to family. In this episode, I talk with my colleague Kim about navigating boundaries with family members who may not respect or understand them. As Kim and I discuss, setting boundaries with family can be particularly challenging due to the emotional entanglement and ingrained roles we play."I feel like sometimes we even work harder on relationships outside the family dynamic, we'll work harder to save a friendship. We'll work harder to save a working environment than sometimes we do with the family."During our conversation, Kim and I dive deep into the psychology behind why we often struggle more with setting boundaries with family versus other relationships. We explore the fear of losing love or acceptance, as well as the tendency to fall back into old roles and patterns. Kim and I provide practical tips for getting clear on your values and what you want the relationship to look like, then communicating those boundaries in a calm, compassionate way."It's almost like going back and trying to correct your teacher. That would be difficult, right? And so, maybe that's why we sometimes do walk away a little quicker because we think that we can't tell the teacher they were wrong."I believe this conversation can help anyone who has difficulty setting boundaries with family members, whether it's overbearing parents, critical siblings, or other relatives. Kim and I offer a thoughtful, nuanced approach to this common challenge, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness, forgiveness, and maintaining connection where possible.Be sure to leave a comment and let us know your thoughts on this episode - Kim and I are eager to continue the conversation and provide the support you need. Thanks for listening, and please share with someone you know who might benefit, I appreciate it.Resources:Your FREE Forgive Yourself resources: https://brendareisscoaching.com/podcast-resource-optin/Are you struggling with a situation or a person in your life? Tresa is also a certified Canfield trainer of the Success Principles, a beautiful speaker, podcaster, and transformation facilitator.Tresa's Master Work is a handbook for women ready to change their financial lives called Reinventing Her. In this empowering guide, she openly shares her own transformation with money, relationships, and career, and encourages women to upgrade their lives by learning and living the steps she created to change her own life. Tresa's expertise is the connection between self-worth and net worth - how women can engage in inner work to unleash their “living a wealthy life” mindset."If there is some empowerment inside that I am inherently valuable, and therefore I deserve to have whatever that amount of money is going to provide for me, then I'm willing to take the actions. I'm willing to learn how to take the risk to become comfortable with behavior that is required to let my money grow on itself, which is what investing is."During our interview, Tresa discusses how our emotions and beliefs around money directly impact our financial outcomes. She shares her personal story of growing up with a banker father and a mother who constantly compared their lifestyle to others, leading Tresa to develop unhealthy money habits like using credit cards for approval. She unpacks how women often struggle to feel worthy of wealth and financial abundance, and how this self-worth piece is the key to unlocking a more empowered relationship with money. This episode is a must-listen for any woman who feels stuck or dissatisfied with her current financial situation. Tresa provides a roadmap for doing the inner work to shift your money mindset, overcome limiting beliefs, and step into your natural abundance. As a forgiveness coach, I share my insights on the misunderstood nature of forgiveness and its power to transform lives.
