Jason Young, is a nationally recognized consultant and leadership guide, keynote speaker, best-selling author, and university professor. He has over 25 years of experience working alongside well-respected churches and companies, a doctoral degree in hospitality, and is currently working on his Ph.D. in leadership trauma. And THIS is why I asked him to join us today. Jason recently wrote a book, Don’t Burn Out, Burn Bright, focusing on pastors and ministry leaders and how they can perform their roles well without exhaustion, discouragement, and burnout. While caregivers aren’t pastors, we certainly have much in common as both roles focus on caring for others. We’ll discuss how burnout happens to people serving and leading others and what we need to do so we can not burn out but burn bright.Connect with Jason Young or Grab his book Don't Burn Out, Burn Bright.

The other day, I posted a 15-second clip on TikTok that went viral. Some people were so thankful for my quick thoughts, and others said I was a really big jerk!
What was all the fuss about? Sometimes, what we think of as caregiving is really enabling behavior.
In this week's episode, we explore the fine line between supporting and caring for our loved ones without detriment to ourselves or shirking our caregiving responsibilities.
And I’ll be giving more context to explain the difference between healthy acts of care and those that can potentially be enabling and harmful to our loved ones and us.Let’s dive into how we can support our loved ones in ways that empower them rather than undermine their independence and well-being.

When you hear "have joy" in the context of caregiving With the overwhelming, often sorrowful experiences of caring for a loved one, it can be difficult to imagine joy in the midst of it all.

This interview changed my life. I am still in awe of my encounter with Kathleen Donnelly Israel, a caregiver, spiritual seeker, healer, and pilgrim on the Camino Santiago.
Her caregiving journey led her to her deep study, knowledge of spiritual healing practices, and her quest to walk the Camino, sharing her story and holding space for others to share theirs.
My time speaking with her was enlightening, encouraging, and healing and I know it will be for you too!
If you are uncertain of who you are outside of caregiving or wondering what life beyond caregiving could be (and perhaps feel guilty about thinking of that), I invite you to listen to this interview with Kathleen.
And then buy her book Wisdom on the Camino; I am reading it now, and it is like walking with her!

My guest, Rebecca Sugar, became the family caregiver for her ailing father, as well as her elderly family friend and childhood nanny as she neared the end of her life.
Rebecca learned how to be a family caregiver on the job, taking responsibility for her elderly father through multiple spinal cord surgeries at the age of 79. It was an emotional rollercoaster, and she hopes that her personal experience and insight with a spiritual undertone will resonate with those who can relate.
