Client consultations are imperative in achieving a positive result for both the hairstylist and the client. We talk about virtual consultations happening before the appointment so we can really have an understanding about the service, price and time needed to make the magic happen. Amanda is our DIY gal so she is a great representative for listeners and to allow Linda and Karie (the hairstylists) to educate and guide her so that disasters don't ruin her hair. #themoreyouknow

We are so honored and excited to have Kristen in the studio with us. We had a great time talking with this intelligent and well-educated woman about life, people and feelings. Here is a summary in her own words:
My various careers have made zero sense on paper. I went to undergrad for creative writing, and then did a 180 degree turn and decided that I'd go back to school and become...a barber?! And yet, it all makes perfect sense. Well, at least to me. I love stories. I love people. I love making people feel good about themselves inside and out. I am a sex therapist now and I fully believe if I hadn't been with my clients through their many tales of sex, dating, partying, graduating, learning, growing, and becoming, I might never have been the sex therapist I am today. Some of my former barber clients still reach out to me to tell me about their lives, which I am so happy and humbled by. Cutting hair has been a lifeline and an amazing teacher. -

If you know, you know. Hair stylists have such unique relationships with their clients, and that becomes abundantly clear when something happens to them. In this episode, Karie shares her experience losing a beloved client and going to her memorial where she was not greeted with the warmest reception. We break this down and eventually have a laugh about it (of course!). This experience was actually the catalyst to start this podcast and share these kinds of stories with you. This is the human connection and shared experience that we all need in our lives-all wrapped up nicely and delivered right to your ears!We hope you enjoy and would love to hear your thoughts. This podcast episode delves into the fascinating world of shampoo, shedding light on its origin, various uses, ingredients, and the wide array of options available today.
Historical Roots: The episode begins by exploring the historical roots of shampoo. It explains that the word "shampoo" derives from the Hindi word "chāmpo," which means to massage or knead. Shampooing has been practiced for centuries in different cultures, often using natural ingredients like herbs and oils.
Evolution of Shampoo: The podcast then traces the evolution of shampoo from its early forms to the modern liquid or bar shampoo we use today. It highlights how shampoo has evolved from basic soap-based formulas to more specialized products designed for various hair types and needs.
Ingredients: A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to discussing the ingredients used in shampoo. It delves into the common ingredients found in shampoos, such as surfactants (cleansing agents), conditioners, fragrances, and preservatives. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of choosing shampoos that match one's hair type and any specific concerns, like dandruff or frizz.
Hair Care Tips: The podcast offers practical hair care tips, including the correct way to shampoo and the importance of rinsing thoroughly. It also touches on the potential harm of over-shampooing, which can strip the hair of natural oils and lead to dryness.
Variety of Options: The episode highlights the vast array of shampoo options available today. It covers traditional liquid shampoos, solid shampoo bars, organic and natural alternatives, and even sulfate-free and vegan options. The hosts stress the importance of consumers making informed choices based on their hair needs and values.
Sustainability: Sustainability is a key theme in the episode. It discusses how the beauty industry is moving towards eco-friendly packaging and ingredients, as consumers become more conscious of their environmental impact. The hosts encourage listeners to consider sustainable options when choosing shampoo products.
In conclusion, this podcast episode provides a comprehensive overview of the world of shampoo, from its historical origins to its modern-day iterations. It emphasizes the significance of understanding ingredients, choosing the right shampoo for individual needs, and being mindful of sustainability in the hair care routine. Whether you're a hair care enthusiast or simply looking to make more informed choices about your shampoo, this episode offers valuable insights and tips.

Karie and Amanda work with Holli during photoshoots for makeover sessions and headshots. Holli is a detailed, organized and professional photographer who makes your photo experience so comfortable and therefore successful! Here is some background on Holli:
Born and raised in West Seattle, I have always had a keen eye for photography and found inspiration in both nature and art from museum galleries to street art to the fine art my mother or other relatives have created.
As a kid with a Polaroid camera in hand, I loved photographing people in action or posing stuffed animals to practice more formal posing (for real, I did that)!
Starting out as a Wedding Photographers assistant at 18, I quickly discovered I love people. Burned out from weddings within a few years, I tried a variety of other things, but always with a day job. Photography finally became my full focus in 2015! Native Light Photography was launched to provide branding and professional photography to career professionals and businesses. Another branch came back into focus during the Pandemic to fulfill a more creative side working with people of all ages, holliwithani.com ;)

Destined for greatness in the hair business, Anne came on the scene at age 19 with more energy than she knew what to do with! She started Hair.comb around the time the internet was just taking off (hence the play on words). As her business evolved, Anne pivoted and made decisions right when change needed to happen. We talk about her journey, our time as owner/employee and what to do about lice (!)http://hairdotcomb.comSteps on how to eliminate lice at home:1. Confirm that it's lice and not dandruff or another scalp disorder.2. Purchase a delousing kit.2. Wet the hair. Apply olive oil or mayonnaise to the hair and saturate.3. Wrap in plastic. A bag or Saran Wrap will do4. Apply heat for up to 15 min. (if you don't have access to a dryer, microwave a damp towel and wrap around the plastic. Remove when cooled)5. Take off plastic wrap and cleanse with a delousing shampoo. May need a few washings to get all of the oil out.6. Detangle the hair. Divide into 4 sections, two in front and two in back. Starting at the nape of the neck on one side, use the nit comb in the kit and slide the comb down the length of the hair. Part 1/2 " sections at a time and move to the top. After each swipe, clean the comb in a towel or bowl of water. Repeat for all sections. 7. Make sure to put all implements, towels, bowls, plastic, etc in a large plastic bag for 48 hours.8. Wash all bedding and common fabrics in hot water followed by a hot dryer.Spread the word! Help other parents with information to keep the infestation at a minimum and maybe you won't have to do it again next month!--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hairtalkpodcast/message -
