  • In this clip, you’ll hear what John learned from Louis Ignarro, who had a key role in the discovery of nitric oxide. When you breathe in through your nasal passage, nitric oxide is formed, keeping viruses at bay.

Nasal breathing will mean the difference between life or death for some people with the novel coronavirus. Nitric oxide opens up airways so you can breathe easier; it opens up arteries so blood gets pumped easier, and in turn you get greater oxygenation of the blood. Press play to learn all about it in this week’s mini-sode!

  • “If there's a good laugh, then you get tears to come down [from] your eyes. You feel great and it's because of the release of chemicals, such as beta-endorphins. And then it activates other blood chemicals in the cardiovascular system [like]: nitric oxide. And this kind of tag team, if you will, appear to really lead to the beneficial effects on the blood vessels.” – Michael Miller is a best-selling author, professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and an innovative researcher in heart disease prevention.

Taking care of our cardiovascular health should be, and has always been, a top priority. Some of the highlights of today’s conversation with Dr. Miller are:

James did an experiment documented in his book, where he plugged both of his nostrils for 10 days. As he started only breathing through his mouth, his health started declining drastically. Listen to today’s minisode to learn how and why mouth breathing affected James’ health during his experiment, so you can apply these lessons to your daily life...
