Though I noticed that with the RSS feed, I no longer get any of the podcast/album art when playing, which is especially noticeable since I listen to it regularly on my commute and my car screen shows a big generic musical note instead of the artwork! Any ideas what I may be doing wrong? Thanks again for an awesome podcast!"

For the past two years I've been in Argentina researching and singing Irish trad songs printed in a rural paper in Buenos Aires in the late 1800's. Last month I released an album of these ballads "The Trackless Wild, Irish Song of the Pampa" during a Culture Ireland sponsored tour of Argentina with trad. fiddle player Aidan Connolly.

Here's a download link for the album, would be great if ye could give a song or two a spin on your podcast. I think you played songs from a previous album of mine "Hy Brasil" a few years back. beir bua,"

WELCOME THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST

    * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn.

This podcast is for fans of Celtic music. It is here to build a diverse Celtic community and help the incredible artists who so generously share their music with you. If you hear music you love, please email artists to let them know you heard them on the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. Musicians depend on your generosity to keep making music. So please find a way to support them, especially during the holiday season. Give the gift of a CD, Album Pin, Shirt, Digital Download, or give the gift of a Patreon subscription. That is now an option.

You can find a link to all of the artists in the shownotes, along with show times, when you visit our website at celticmusicpodcast.com.

First let me send one more HUGE congrats to all of the wonderful people who helped organize IrishFest Atlanta this year. It was an enormous success. There was a new location that was just fantastic. Congrats. And thank you for letting the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast be a part of your celebration.

The first new episode of Celtic Christmas Music is now online. I’m currently planning 5 or 6 episodes for 2024. That means, you’ll have over 80 episodes packed full of Christmas music, interviews and stories by Celtic musicians that you can enjoy during the holiday season. Go to CelticChristmasPodcast.com or check out the Celtic Christmas Patreon page.

You have until November 30 to send in your Celtic art for consideration. It will be used to promote the podcast. And you will get paid for use of the art. If you don't have art, do you know someone who does? Ask them to email me at follow@bestcelticmusic

If you are a Celtic musician or in a Celtic band, then please submit your band to be played on the podcast. You don’t have to send in music or an EPK. Just email Email follow@bestcelticmusic and of course, listeners can learn how to subscribe to the podcast and get a free music - only episode.

Musicians will enjoy a free eBook called Celtic Musicians Guide to Digital Music and learn how to follow the podcast. It’s 100% free.

THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST!

This podcast is because of your generosity. Your kindness pays for our engineer, graphic designer, Celtic Music Magazine editor, promotion of the podcast, and allows me to buy the music I play here. It also pays for my time creating the show each and every week.

As a patron, you get ad - free and music - only episodes before regular listeners, vote in the Celtic Top 20, stand - alone stories, you get a private feed to listen to the show or you can listen through the Patreon app. All that for as little as $1 per month.

There are big changes coming to Patreon starting soon. Patreon is moving to a monthly subscription model. It shouldn’t affect you too much. But it will save me from the hassle of accidentally forgetting to charge per episode.

The amount you pay will be what you normally pledge per month. I'll let you know as soon as the change is official so we can get things worked out.

If you need to make any changes, and you're on an iPhone, remember to do it through your browser, not through the app. They will charge you an extra fee. If you're on Android, you're fiiiiine! :)

A special thanks to our new and continued Patrons of the Podcast: Yoke, Gershon, P Michael Degan

HERE IS YOUR THREE STEP PLAN TO SUPPORT THE PODCAST

Go to our Patreon page. Decide how much you want to pledge every month, $1, $3, $12, $25. Those are the new levels that patronage levels when they make the switch. Keep listening to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast to celebrate Celtic culture through music.

Mindy from River Drivers emailed a correction: "Hi Marc, We wanted to thank you for including our music on both the Friel Sisters podcast and Cherish the Ladies. We love both of these groups!

We really appreciate it! You have actually been playing our music since our first album in 2015 and we are very grateful

Just noticed though that in both of these latest podcasts, you are linking to the wrong band.

    Our website is www.TheRiverDrivers.com

Thanks again for all you do for the music!"

    Please send corrections.

River G. emailed an Android podcatcher recommendation: "Marc, Just a quick recommendation of another great podcast app on Android. It's called AntennaPod and is truly free. I attached a screenshot so people know what the icon looks like. (It may also be on IOS, but I'm not sure.)

Shel O'Toole emailed: "Hi Marc, I usually listen to your show when I’m working from home but podcast # 681 Lady of the House I saved for my drive back home from a visit to my sister.

Listening to the music brought memories of my father who played numerous instruments, solo and with others. The banjo was my favourite (which Is probably why I play banjo), followed by the accordion, he had both button and piano accordions, and the fiddle. He also played harmonica, piano and even the gum leaf (definitely an Australian thing).

I took my father’s violin which I had restored recently so my sister could see it for herself. It was in a terrible state when it came to me but its voice is restored and it’s very pleasant. Now the challenge of learning to play.

I look forward to the podcast every week, so thanks Marc for all you do and for the magic you create in weaving together the music of Ireland and the music influenced by Ireland and the stories of the people who are touched by the force of the Celts.

    Warm regards"

Patrick Rieger emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, I feel like I have been slacking this summer sending you pictures after having sent so many.

Celtic Pittsburgh hasn't been doing much the past few months though we do have plans in the works for an event in October. Meanwhile, the renaissance festival season for my family and I started when we attended the Great Lakes Medieval faire the weekend of July 27 and 28. It was a great weekend, and we needed time away from the daily routine. With life so busy for everyone we hardly see friends anymore, and this was a chance to see many of them. We were happy to find that our friend Captain John Stout, aka Richard Brentar, has returned to Great Lakes after having been absent for a few years. I'm not sure what I enjoy more, his music or his stories, he always has lots of great stories to tell.

We also saw the Jackdaws, Celtic Mayhem, and Michael Manderen. Sadly we didn't make the shows of Menagerie Music this year but we did manage to catch up with Lisa from that duo.

My family and I plus a couple of friends went to see John McCann and Hamish at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle in Pittsburgh on August 3. These two are a lot of fun and have great energy, and get the place jumping. I have seen them for 15 years, starting when they were part of the Corned Beef & Curry Band. Sadly that band broke up when one of the three decided to explore other musical paths.

I'll be sending more pictures of Celtic musicians come September after trips to two more ren faires. Until then, slainte!"

Cheryl Arvio emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, Sorry these photos aren't better, but this is Socks in the Frying Pan from Friday night's show at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. Brilliant, as they always are! Bummed that they are not playing Milwaukee Irish Fest this year, but happy we got to see them (and pick up their new CD) in our hometown. Best,"

Jeffrey Evans emailed a photo: "Hey Marc, Greetings from Louisville KY. Just wanted to share with you since I thought you would appreciate it.

Last Sat (10/12), my wife and I participated in a Trunk or Treat that was hosted by the Shelby Country Humane Society and as you can see in the picture, we went heavily into a cat theme. I found a cat based trunk or treat kit that was cat centric, we took our Sphynx cat that we rescued through a TNR effort and added various cat base items inside the trunk area including pages from a Star Trek Cat calendar and my wife even dressed up as a cat where as I simply dressed as a TNRer.

To top it all off, I even set up a speaker playing a cat song playlist consisting of your Whiskers in The Jar album and Lord of the Pounce.

Unfortunately, everyone was so distracted by our cat, nobody noticed the music. But we enjoyed it!

***Quick side note: on the episode web pages, every spot where you list the email address to send feedback to or band submissions, the ".net" is left off.***"

Eric Guarin (gwa - reen) emailed: "Mark, I heard you mention a shortfall - I didn't catch the details, probably in a noisy environment. I've been listening since Episode 6, in multiple states and countries, from warm St. Lucia to cold Iceland to the Rock of Gibraltar, and on planes across both oceans. Thanks for all this! To help the shortfall I upped to the Song Henger tier; keep up the great music. Slainte,

Larry Budd emailed: "Hey Mark: I just shared your podcast with friends. We will be traveling next week to Ireland! And I took a break from raking to thank you for your work on our shared heritage. Any must - sees, particularly musical, would be appreciated.

Rene St.Aubin emailed: "When is your next trip to Ireland to get the feel of music and culture"

Robin MacDonald emailed from Wolf Creek, OR: "Hello Marc, I have been listening to your podcast, Irish & Celtic Music, on Amazon Prime. However just within the last few weeks it has completely disappeared! It will not even come up on a search, which is crazy because your music CDs do. How odd. Did you get some sort of notification from Amazon Prime Music that your podcast was no longer going to be available?

I will have to figure out a new way to listen to it and I will! I just enjoyed the convenience as I am not able to stream music much at work (bandwidth) but Amazon Prime Music seemed to always work. Best Regards,"

Robin followed that up with: "Hello Marc, Enjoy your trip! Thanks for getting back to me and for the link. There’s good news though, your Celtic Christmas podcasts are still available on Amazon Prime! Love it always, any time of the year. "

Patrick Rieger emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, My family and I have been busy the past month with a stop at our favorite pub and two renaissance festivals, so I'll be sending a few emails about the incredible musicians we enjoyed.

On August 24, we went to Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle to see John McCann and Hamish, and an hour after they started everyone, including John and Hamish, got a surprise: the third member of the Corned Beef and Curry Band dropped in, Bob Banerjee. Bob is the most incredible fiddle player I have ever seen, and he has an endless number of bad jokes. He is the curry in the band's name, having been born in India. So for a few hours, this great band was back together. Irish musician Mark Guiser was in the audience that night, and was invited onto the stage for a few songs. Two wedding parties then dropped in for some post - reception fun. The energy, excitement and fun hadn't been that high at the Harp in a long time, and my wife and I only left because our son needed to get to bed.

In one photo is The Corned Beef & Curry Band, from left to right, John McCann, Bob Banerjee, and Hamish,

In the other, Mark Guiser and Bob. They were playing Hallelujah with Mark singing."

Cheryl Arvio emailed some photos from Milwaukee Irish Fest: "Hi Marc, Here are some photos from Milwaukee Irish Fest.

First is Talisk (sorry for the poor quality, my phone doesn't like to take photos in the dark), then Lunasa, the Finns and finally a concertina circle with Mary Macnamara, Lexie Boatright who also plays with the Consequences, and Mohsen Amini of Talisk, accompanied on guitar by Charlie Galloway, also of Talisk.

Maybe someday you'll make it there!"

WELCOME THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST

    * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn.

This podcast is for fans of Celtic music and maybe for those who have a hankering to travel to the Celtic nations like I do.

It is here to build a diverse Celtic community and help the incredible artists who so generously share their music with you. If you hear music you love, please email artists to let them know you heard them on the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. Musicians depend on your generosity to keep making music. So please find a way to support them. Buy a CD, Album Pin, Shirt, Digital Download, or join their communities on Patreon.

You can find a link to all of the artists in the shownotes, along with show times, when you visit our website at celticmusicpodcast.com.

Today’s show is sponsored by Rie Sheridan Rose. Rie writes many things, but one of her favorite things to do is to create a new song and send it out in the world. Thanks to the brilliance of her musicians, they always sound lovely, even though she can't write a note of music.

Rie was one of our generous supporters of our Kickstarter earlier this year. She’s a fantastic writer and songwriter. In fact, I’ve set many of her poems to music. Half of my Firefly album, As Long As I’m Flyin’ was written by Rie. Most of my album Don’t Go Drinking With Hobbits, was written by her as well. She wrote ALL of the lyrics for my album, Pirates vs Dragons. She also wrote the song “Soul of a Harper” which I’ll share today as well.

Follow the link in the shownotes to learn more about Rie Sheridan Rose.

You’ll also find a link to her enormous collection of books and writings on Amazon.

I am all packed and ready to fly to Scotland later this evening. I have one week in Scotland followed by a week visiting my mom in Italy. I’ll try to post a blog on Patreon during the week to let you know how things are going and if we find any new favorite places to hike in Scotland. You can follow our Patreon page for free and get some blogs.

If you are a Celtic musician or in a Celtic band, then please submit your band to be played on the podcast. You don’t have to send in music or an EPK. You will get a free eBook called Celtic Musicians Guide to Digital Music and learn how to follow the podcast. It’s 100% free. Just email Email follow@bestcelticmusic and of course, listeners can learn how to subscribe to the podcast and get a free music - only episode.

THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST!

Russell Howell emailed: "Tractoring on our smallhold while listening! Really love the show, it is my companion anytime I am on the tractor or making mead!"

    Maura Goodin emailed: "Good afternoon,

I didn't expect to be writing in to a podcast today, but I had yesterday's episode playing while I was working from home today and was pleasantly surprised by the second track you selected, by Keltricity; the set they were playing is all tunes that my dad, John Goodin, composed. He passed away two and a half years ago now. He was a mandolinist and guitarist, who composed a pretty wide range of music from dance tunes to classical pieces; the Classical Mandolin Society of America has preserved his website and blog at https://mandotopia.classicalmandolinsociety.org/, where he collected all his recordings and sheet music (much of it freely available under a Creative Commons license and maintained by CMSA).

I see that Keltricity is from Louisville, which makes sense, as my dad was one of the founding members of the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra before my family relocated to northeastern Iowa; he kept in touch with a lot of the local musicians and the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra actually played so many of his pieces that they ended up recording a CD of them (called, of course, "It's All Goodin"). The tunes Keltricity played in that set are all ones that were in the repertoire for my dad's contra dance band, Contratopia, and that recording featured some of his published harmony parts as well. Contratopia still regularly plays for dances here in Minneapolis where I live, at the same folk dance hall where my own band plays, so we're keeping up the music since he's gone.

I'm not sure if you've ever played Contratopia on the show, sorry - - I definitely haven't listened to the full back catalog of podcasts, though I've been an occasional listener for many years! - - but I know you've played a track by another band that their pianist is in, Brass Lassie, so if you haven't checked their recordings out, you might like to! Their albums all have a mix of original tunes by band members and traditional tunes in Celtic and old - time styles. They used to tour the DC area contra dance scene and play for the Sunday afternoon all - waltzes dances there, so there's probably more than your average number of waltzes on their albums.

Sorry for such a long email! Last bit of fun trivia as a thank - you, the "Maggie" in the tune name from that set is our old family dog, a border collie we had when I was little. (She predated the digital age or I'd include a photo!) My dad wrote so many tunes that he named them after anything he could think of (or just the day he wrote them, if he never got around to a proper name), so there's several named after our various pets. This set has another one named after Maggie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56neWaCahc4

I hope you have a good weekend, and thanks again for the great surprise!"

I have a brand new album that is now on sale. It’s called Dancing With Hobbits. It’s album of all original, hobbit - inspired dance tunes. If you saw the Lord of the Rings movies and heard the music during Bilbo Baggins’ birthday party, then that should give you some idea. It’s fun, upbeat Celtic dance tunes.

It was recorded with Sam Gillogly on fiddle. Sam is no stranger to this podcast, having their own album of Classical Celtic music. But if you’re heard a fiddle on any of my songs in the last 15 years, that was probably Sam.

The album is listed under our band name Dancing With Hobbits. I’ll share music in the coming weeks and later in the show.

    - Running on the beach near Tarifa, Spain and later in Biarritz, France (picture attached with the beach way in the background)

    - Climbing the Rock of Gibraltar (see picture of monkey)

    - Hiking a piece of the Camino De Santiago pilgrimage trail, near Bilbao (the picture near the ocean).

    - Also managed to see Iron Maiden live, a long held bucket list dream of mine to see a concert overseas. We didn't listen to the Podcast on that occasion ha ha but listened quite a bit while driving around 2400 - 2500 km from Portugal through Spain to the Basque tip of France and then Spain.

We were lucky enough in this life to visit Ireland, summer of 2021. So so so so nice, we LOVED it. BUT due to COVID...no live music!

Someday, we'll manage to get on an Invasion

    I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK

What are you doing today while listening to the podcast? Please email me. I’d love to see a picture of what you're doing while listening or of a band that you saw recently.

    Email me at follow@bestcelticmusic.

Robin Morales Reyes sent photos from Mexico: "☘ Sainte from Mexico, Marc!"

Ken in Portland, CT emailed a photo: "Marc, my bagpipe band played several gigs , one of which was at the Portland CT Ale House pictured here. I am next to bass drummer second to the right wearing the brown driving cap inflatable leprechaun"

Mitchell Dobrenen Family emailed a couple photos from Greenville, SC: "He prefers to lie down to listen."

José Teixeira emailed: "Hi Marc! I have started listening you podcast for some time now, a bit by accident when I was searching for music podcasts. For a long time I've been attracted by Celtic culture, that has influenced by some way the culture of northern Portugal, where I was born. My wife, though she was born in the south of the country - its a small country : - ) - also enjoys Celtic art, and suddenly our eldest son was playing Galician bag pipe, what came by a surprise because there's no tradition of instrument playing in our families.

By the way, we now we live in Sintra (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sintra). Usually, I listen to you and the good music that you share during the weekend, while I take care of our garden or during my chores.

About the end of Google Podcasts, there's a quite good alternative that I have been using at least for the last couple of years. It's called AntennaPod (https://antennapod.org/) and I sure it can help some of your android listeners. Obrigado pelo teu bom trabalho (Thank you for you good work). José"

I and the Cosgroves have really enjoyed episode 660! Eight debuts!!! from bands and performers never played on the show before and we have nearly never even heard of them before today!

The Low Kings, The Drowsy Lads, Fialla, The Crowfoot Rakes, Blackthorn, Conor Mallon, Fig for a Kiss, and Luas.... Love 'em all.

Thank you for turning us on to these and many others. We have a lot of favourites who are played regularly on the show.

We are proud sponsors of IrishFest Atlanta. The festival takes place Nov 8 - 10, 2024. Cherish the Ladies and The Friel Sisters are headlining. I hope to share some interviews with artists performing there as we get a little closer to the festival. A large portion of the event is free to attend. However, there are some special concerts and workshops available. You can buy tickets to those right now. Go to www.irishfestatlanta.org for more details. Oh! And if you’re out there, I have a show with my daughter Inara kicking off the Saturday music schedule. Come join me.

I am still looking for Celtic designs to promote the podcast in 2025. If you create Celtic art or know someone who might be interested, please email me. Follow@bestcelticmusic.

Finally, if you follow the podcast on Patreon, you might’ve noticed a new feature. You can now get a countdown to the episode release on Wednesday at noon eastern. You’ll be able to stream the show and chat with other Patrons of the Podcast. I’ve been wanting something like this for a while. I’m thrilled that Patreon made it possible. Will you join us next week?

THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST!

You are amazing. It is because of your generosity that you get to hear so much great Celtic music each and every week.

Your kindness pays for our engineer, graphic designer, Celtic Music Magazine editor, promotion of the podcast, and allows me to buy the music I play here. It also pays for my time creating the show each and every week.

As a patron, you get ad - free and music - only episodes before regular listeners, vote in the Celtic Top 20, and you get a private feed to listen to the show or you can listen through the Patreon app. All that for as little as $1 per episode.

A special thanks to our new and continued Patrons of the Podcast: J and Brian Herndon

I had two messages come in about Gretna Green after I mentioned it in episode #671.

Shel O'Toole wrote: "Hi Marc, It was interesting to hear you refer to Gretna Green. My knowledge of it was as a place people eloped to. A quick search of Google confirmed my memories. It was interesting to discover Gretna is a town built during World War 1.

The village of Gretna Green is still thriving and it sounds like a great place to visit. It is certainly on my list of places to visit should I get to fulfill my dream of going to Scotland.

I discovered in the past couple of years my maternal grandmother’s family is from Ayrshire in Scotland. They came from a village called Coylton.

I look forward to hearing about your whiskey tour and seeing photos of Scotland.

    I’m really enjoying today’s show #671

Thanks for all the great music Marc.

    SliĂŁnte"

Wayne Myers wrote: "Hey Marc, I was listening to episode 671 while playing soccer today and heard you mention the Scottish village of Gretna Green. There is a fantasy author named Linzi Day who lives there and has her book series set there. I know she is amenable to answering questions, because she answered mine.

Her book series is The Midlife Recorder series, which starts with Midlife in Gretna Green. Love the show. Slainte."

Mary Lynn Deal sent a message on Patreon: "Hi Marc, I'm doing some 3d printing and office work at home while listening today. Still enjoying every minute. Have a wonderful day, Slainte,"

Rod Nevin commented on Patreon: "Lovely collection of music! By the way Marc, I have to tell you because I know you would want to know, the tune title for Arise & Go has “Strathspeys” and reels, and the correct pronunciation for strathspey is “strath’spay”
last syllable being what Bob Barker always reminded us to do our pets. 😎"

Peter Wood replied to a post on Facebook: "So I'm sitting here listening to the podcast on Pocket Casts as I have for years and I hear that Podcast Addict, Amazon Music, and Patreon are the only Android apps you can listen to the show on?

There's still an RSS feed easily linked on the website too, so any non - cloud based podcatcher should be able to subscribe too. I recently installed AntennaPod because I'm considering moving from Pocket Casts and I see this show among my imported subscriptions like any other."

Corey Fitch emailed: "Hi Marc, I’ve been listening to your podcast for the past year or so and its been keeping me great company on my drive to work! We had a big family celebration last year. It was our 250th anniversary on our small family farm in New Hampshire—my kids are the 10th generation living on the farm. For musical entertainment, we had the Jordan TW Trio (led by Jordan Tirrell - Wysocki) and they were absolutely fantastic—everyone was up dancing and they ended the night with an beautiful acapella Parting Glass. I haven’t heard them on the podcast yet so I figured I would put the plug in to get them in the rotation. Thank you for everything you do!"
