Episodios

  • In this episode, Jasmine, Kestrel, and Eliza dive into the magic behind our pre-natal Venus cazimi's (that is: conjunctions with the Sun). Together, we explore this season’s Venus retrograde and cazimi in Leo, Venus’ synodic cycle, and what the Venus cazimi that predates your birth says about you. To do so, we unpack Arielle Guttman’s theory of Venus star points and share personal stories about how we resonate with our own star points… as well as what this most recent visit to the underworld has yielded. We had so much fun recording this episode, and we hope that you enjoy tuning in too. As ever, it would mean the world if you could share our podcast with a friend and/or leave us a 5* rating on your fave podcast app. Thanks for listening!

  • In this episode, we dig into the theory and technique of antiscia — a concept in traditional astrology that is all about reflections of light. Our guest Kate Petty is an artist, astrologer, mentor, and all-round antiscia virtuoso. In this episode, Kate guides us through 1. What Antiscia is, 2. Why it’s something to watch for, and 3. How to track it in your chart, in your synastry with other people, as well as the ways it can be activated by transit. We learned so much in this episode, and we know you will too. Please share with all your favorite astro-nerds!

    Topics we touch on include:

    - The definitions of antiscia and contra-antiscia

    - the antiscia and contra-antiscia sign pairs — and how it complicates traditional astrology’s conception of “aversion” (aka signs that don’t witness each other through a traditional Ptolemaic aspect)

    - The cardinal cross, with emphasis on the equinox and solstice points

    - Planetary declination

  • That’s a wrap on 2022. Happy New Year! In this episode, Jasmine, Kestrel, and Eliza unpack the astrology of 2023. With Mercury and Mars both retrograde at the top of the year, we begin on a slow note. But this year has a few huge changes in store. Like, generationally huge. In March, Saturn enters Pisces for the first time in 30 years. (That means if you have Saturn in Pisces, you’re entering your Saturn return. And if you have Saturn in Aquarius, your return is officially ending.) Then Pluto enters Aquarius for the first time since the 18th century. 2023 is all about cultivating supple boundaries with yourself and others and co-creating the reality you want to exist in. Tune in for a detailed breakdown of these transits and more.

  • In this episode, we invite Vanessa Montgomery on the show to talk about astrology and creativity. Vanessa is author of Star Power, Cosmic Power, and Astro Power, as well as the resident astrologer for Glamour Magazine. Together, we explore how different houses and planets relate to creativity. We also talk about gendering (or not) the planets and "self-objectification theory.” And we discuss art of all kinds, from writing to fashion to pole dancing — as well as what it’s like to be a creator after your Chiron return.

  • We are thrilled to welcome astrologer, artist, and teacher Kelsey Rose Tortorice to the podcast to discuss human design. Human design draws from several distinct traditions of knowledge, including astrology, the Qabalah, the chakra system, and the I’Ching. The result? A system that offers eerily concrete information on your natural tendencies, patterns, and the ways you can live in greater alignment with yourself.

In this episode, we go over the main components of human design, including how to live by your specific “strategy” and “authority."

We talk about what happens when you subscribe to the rules, morals, and projections of other people, and the process of de-conditioning from those conventions. We also explore different patterns of shame and judgment and how to transmute them.

Kelsey is also offering a discount code to Kosmic Tonic listeners: use the code “kosmictonic” to receive 20% off their course, “Fundamentals of Human Design for the Astrologically Minded."

  • It is with serious delight and honour that we welcome renowned astrologer and NYT best-selling author Chani Nicholas to the show. In this episode, we ask Chani about her first pathway to this work, as well as why she focuses on traditional astrology. We talk about the creative process, writing as ritual (and service), birth charts as witnesses, and the healing power of myth. Thank you Chani, and thank you everyone for listening! • In this episode, we speak with Australian astrologer, Alicia Yusuf. The subject: Uranus, that boundary defying planet of disruption and chaos. One of the many cool things about Uranus is that it fits neatly into a human lifespan — Uranus takes 84 years to orbit that Sun. Uranus’ cycle provides a helpful frame to understand our own lives as we pass through the thresholds of being human. One of the most famous “pitstops” on this journey occurs around age 42, when transiting Uranus opposes our natal placement, and any authenticity we’ve shied away from becomes impossible to ignore.

Together, we discuss: the myth of Uranus; the contests (and meeting points) between Uranus and Saturn; Uranus generations by sign; the famed Uranus opposition and its impact on midlife; cryptocurrency; and dreams.

  • In this episode, we are thrilled to welcome Thea Anderson on the show for an episode on the lunar mansions.

What are the lunar mansions, you ask?

You can think of them as a sort of lunar zodiac. While the Sun passes through 12 signs in a year, the Moon passes through 28 lunar mansions every month. Medieval astrologers and mages used the lunar mansions to time certain events, as well as rites of magic.

Thea has studied astrology and magic with Sam Reynolds, Austin Coppock, Nina Gryphon, and Jack Grayle (among others!) Along with being a practiced astro mage, astrologer, and writer, she’s also the Director of Production at @chani.app. We couldn’t ask for a more knowledgeable and ideal guide for our journey into the Mansions of the Moon.

Note that this episode covers material that’s a little more advanced… but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t tune in if you’re a beginner! We all have to start somewhere.

  • As Neptune stations direct in Pisces, it feels timely that we drop an episode on this planet of dream, delusion, murk, poetry, music, inspiration, intoxication, and escape (among other themes — Neptune is notoriously hard to "pin down.”)

Joining us is our friend and colleague, Stephanie Warner, a poet, astrologer, scholar, and Astrology Writer for @CHANI.app.

Together, we explore: dreams, astral projection, the myths of Neptune and Poseidon, midlife transits, Neptune’s influence on art and culture, past Neptune-Jupiter conjunctions, and their once-in-a-lifetime (or several lifetimes) conjunction in Pisces, which happens in April 2022. It’s a packed episode, and we hope you enjoy (and share with all your friends!)

  • Happy Libra Season!

We started these chats on the signs last Scorpio season, which means this is our last episode of the series. (Haven’t checked out the others? Go back and give a listen!)

In this episode, we explore the archetype of Libra (with our own resident Libra Sun, Jasmine.) Yes, it gets the reputation for being the “nice” sign, but Lady Justice also wields a sword. We explore the complexities of this sign as well as discuss the upcoming lunations, which include some major cazimi moments (we explain what that means in the episode) and some probing investigation courtesy of Pluto.

Also, here’s some exciting news: Kosmic Tonic is working with Constellation Coffee to release a line of Kosmic Tonic Teas! The first one, for Libra season, is designed to help cleanse the kidneys (the organ that Libra rules.)

  • We are so thrilled to release this episode with traditional astrologer and astro mage, Nina Gryphon! Together, we explore the ancient branch of horary astrology, in which a chart is drawn for the moment a question is asked. This is astrology at its most divinatory, if not downright magical in its logic (while at the same time complex and rigorous.) We also discuss the practice of astrological magic, including the construction of magical talismans. Other topics include: theology, finding lost pets, the fixed stars, reincarnation, dreams, and much more.

  • Happy Virgo Season!

We are delighted to welcome onto the show Whitney Will (aka Starhearth Astrology) to discuss the sign and archetype of VIRGO. Themes include: excellence (and that pressure Virgo people tend to apply to themselves); dedication to ideals; worthiness; the beauty of form; witchcraft; practical magic; and that double-bodied merging between the divine and human that we see in the "winged maiden." As usual, we also discuss the upcoming lunations, including the new moon on September 6 and the Pisces full moon on the 20th.

And… this just in: we’re launching a monthly give-away for free readings with Jasmine, Kestrel and Eliza!

  • In this episode, we explore the archetype and astrology of the asteroid Vesta. Vesta is named after the Roman Goddess of the hearth, whose Greek counterpart is known as Hestia. Vesta is the first born and the last born child of Saturn, the Goddess who refused to marry or couple with other Gods, despite the pursuit of suitors like Apollo or Poseidon. In astrology, she represents the principle of focus (the Latin word for hearth) and devotion — especially that devotion that flows, not to another human, but to whatever craft, art or worship one has dedicated themselves to. Vesta is the sister, the priestess, the keeper of the flame.

Joining us for this episode is the wonderful astrologer Bear Ryver. Together, we explore the ideas of sacred sexuality, celibacy, meditation, the flame, purification through desire, and many other fertile rabbit holes. Join us, won’t you?

  • Happy Leo season!

The usual pool party begins with a bit of rain, as the Sun approaches an opposition to Saturn for the first ten days. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t show up with all the glitz and glam you can forage from your diva-auntie’s closet.

In this episode, we explore questions of pride and self-worth, ego strength, playfulness, what to do with your Leo children and MORE.

We also discuss the upcoming lunations, which include not one but two full moons in Aquarius. The first with Saturn breathing down its neck, the second at the end of the season in later-August.

Thank you for listening! We’re so grateful for all your reviews, stars, and shares… keep them coming!
