Episode 393 - Adam Nimoy - The Most Human, Reconciling with My Father, Leonard Nimoy
Adam was born during the Eisenhower administration to Leonard and Sandra Zoberblatt Nimoy. He attended the University Elementary School, a “lab school” run by UCLA, where he was subjected to numerous psychological experiments. The experimentation continued at UC Berkeley in the form of mind-altering substances from which he may, or may not, have fully recovered. In a state of absolute certainty, Adam attended Loyola Law School. He was wrong.
After seven years of practicing entertainment law and one moment of clarity, Adam left his life as an attorney to follow his passion of making films. After directing forty-five hours of network television, some of it sublime, some of it eminently unwatchable, Adam’s career plummeted due in large part to drug and alcohol addiction. On January 1, 2004, Adam entered 12-Step recovery hoping to achieve an attitude adjustment. This was a New Year’s resolution he knew he had to keep. For 8 years, he taught writing, directing and acting at the New York Film Academy and taught filmmaking at Beit T’Shuvah, an addiction treatment center where the residents kept him on the straight and narrow.Book: The Most Human: Reconciling with My Father, Leonard Nimoy
"Engaging and immensely relatable, while at the same time offering deeply profound insights into Adam Nimoy's personal relationships, particularly with his famous father." — Eugene Roddenberry Jr., CEO Roddenberry Entertainment
Living with Dad was like living with a stranger— as a kid I often had trouble connecting and relating to him. But I was always proud of him. Even before Star Trek I'd see him popping up in bit roles on some of my favorite TV shows like Get Smart, Sea Hunt, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. And then one night he brought home Polaroids of himself in makeup and wardrobe for a pilot he was working on.
It was December 1964 and nobody had heard of Star Trek. Still, the eight-year-old me had watched enough Outer Limits and My Favorite Martian to understand exactly what I was looking at. Spock's popularity happened quickly, and soon the fan magazines were writing about dad's personal life, characterizing us as a "close family." But the awkwardness that defined our early relationship blossomed into conflict, sometimes smoldering, sometimes open and intense. There were occasional flashes of warmth between the arguments and hurt feelings— even something akin to love— especially when we were celebrating my father's many successes. The rest of the time, things between us were often strained.
My resentment towards my father kept building through the years. I wasn't blameless, I know that now, but my bitterness blinded me to any thought of my own contribution to the problem. I wanted things to be different for my children. I wanted to be the father I never had, so I coached Maddy's soccer, drove Jonah to music lessons, helped them with their homework— all the things dads are supposed to do. All the things I wanted to do. So what if my Dad and I had been estranged for years? I was living one day at a time. And then I got his letter. That marked a turning point in our lives, a moment that cleared the way for a new relationship between us.

Episode 381 - Kathy Imabayashi - Supporting Parents Raising Boys Who Become Remarkable Men - Intentionally Parenting Your Son From Birth To 8
About MeMy name is Kathryne Savage Imabayashi, a Canadian educator, parent, and coach, residing in Fukuoka, Japan. During a rich career in education spanning four decades, I have been dedicated to empowering children, parents and teachers to be their best and do their best. Having experienced a variety of countries and cultures, both as a teacher and a school leader, my perspective of the critical role parents play in the life of a child has deeply impacted my mission.
Almost three decades ago, an innocent outing with my son carved out my life’s purpose: becoming a passionate advocate for boys. “As a ‘gang of boys’ approached us that day, I was filled with a deep, guttural fear. For no other reason than that they were boys. When I imagined someone in the future feeling that same fear when my son approached, simply because he was male, I knew I had to learn more and then had to find a way to make this world a better place for our boys.”
I have been on a mission for almost 25 years to understand and then share with others the emotional world of boys, and the pressures society places on them. I have listened to your podcast and wonder if perhaps we might have the ingredients for a great conversation - and the chance to reach as many people as possible to understand more about boys.
The discord between what expectations are and how boys really feel often results in them shutting down their true self and resorting to misbehavior, rebellion or depression.
Since retiring, I have been able to pursue my passion full time. In less than two years I have created a business (sonhoodcoaching.com), published two on-line courses (The Blueprint: How to Intentionally Parent Your Son & The 7 SuperPowers Parents of Boys Need ), published a book and co-authoring another, and have used social media to share my knowledge of boys (instagram, facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube).

I would change into a suit in my car or in a gas station and go after my dream. I am just a country boy from Missouri who wanted to be someone.
I am now debt free, I boat several times a year and we have a white horse named Trigger. I am not saying wealth buys you happiness. I had to be happy before I could have wealth. I just want you to know that you can pursue your dreams if you make it happen.

EPISODE 377 - Denise Bard - A teachers impact isn't found within the subject they teach
As a child, Denise spent years facing many forms of abuse. In addition to the physical and verbal abuse, she also endured sexual abuse while in the care of a parent, where she became a form of payment for their drug addiction. After attempting to take her own life in 1989, when Denise was 14 years old, she was brought to a nonprofit shelter for runaway and abused kids. It was there that she learned how to shift her focus and found support from her counselors, teachers, and a coach which helped change the trajectory of her life and the horror she was born into. Because of the small moments of hope that these women gave her, she was able to create her own success story.
Today, Denise shares her experience of facing abuse and how she found power and resilience in the smallest moments of hope that teachers gave her. “30-second moments. It only takes 30 seconds to feel something so deep that it transcends the time it takes for someone to say something to you that you need to hear.” Denise shares a quote her daughter said to her, “Mom, I am so happy they (teachers/counselors/shelter) raised you because I love the way you raised me.”
She is the author of 30-Second Moments: And The Women Who Raised ME. Her story was also featured in the book “Listen - Stories We Carry With Us From House to House". A collection of stories, drawings and poems from youth currently in the foster care system or those who had experience in the system and adult survivors from around the world. Denise is also a special needs advocate and youth advocate. EPISODE 376 - Ryan Estrada - Artist, Author and Adventurer - Garfield, Cartoons, Movies and More
Student Ambassador is my series of fun globe-trotting adventure stories for kids who want to see the world and make it a better place. Each story is inspired by my own travels, but turned into an action-adventure comedy! Readers can solve the mystery along with the character using real fun facts about the world. Ryan Estrada is an artist, author, and adventurer. His books include Banned Book Club, Occulted, No Rules Tonight, and the Student Ambassador series. He has worked for Star Trek, Popeye, Flash Gordon, and Garfield.
He was a gator wrangler in America, an ambassador to Australia, an undocumented animator in Canada, a ghostbuster in South Korea, a Bollywood voiceover actor in India, wandered Kim Jong Il's secret tunnels to North Korea, slept on a bench in a typhoon in Japan, dug toilets in Thailand, did an accidental illegal border crossing into Burma, made road comics in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Vietnam and The Philippines, documentaries in Colombia and Ecuador, and podcasts in Malaysia, ran with the bulls in Mexico, barely escaped being eaten by lions in Kenya, fainted atop Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, got caught in a Peruvian coca war, lived in a Costa Rican rainforest and a Panamanian volcano.
RANDOM FACTS

-Ryan ran @forexposure_txt, the popular artists rights novelty twitter account, for ten years

Episode 374 - Analee Vinyard - Helping women, and children find healing and freedom
My Message is HIS MessageAnalee’s story is one of faith’s triumph over tragedy, the sufficiency of God’s grace and strength in our weakness, and the discovery of the overwhelmingly tender love of our God. When Jesus, the Author, and Finisher of our faith enters in, tragedy, grief, and brokenness will not have the last word.
Today, remarried and enjoying a happy and stable marriage and home, Analee embraces the legacy of her mother Alma, following in her footsteps, ministering love, hope, and encouragement to others.
My goal is to help women, children, and anyone find healing and freedom. Ultimately, this is my heart's mission and my mother's legacy to carry forward. For years I have envisioned myself as a bridge for those who've been through similar heartaches and hardships. Today, I am able to combine my language and translation skills with my love for the Hispanic kitchen and food to minister to others. These activities can be therapeutic, helping others find freedom and healing from their past. As Jesus was often found sitting down and dining with those who were considered "the lost," and welcoming those who were considered "the least."
I've been able to partner with local charities and charitable organizations, bringing my love for baking and cooking to a widening audience, sharing my skills, but more importantly, sharing the love of God with people who desperately need HIS embrace and HIS LOVE.
At the close of one of our church’s services, I went forward for prayer. A friend of mine named Jungu, a real prayer warrior prayed over me.“God is calling you to a charitable ministry,” she said. I wondered; What kind of a ministry might this be? A pastor on the prayer team immediately had a word for me.
“You know exactly what you are going to be doing,” he said. “God knows and you know. You are going to be leading, helping, and setting people free.”
Another time we prayed, Jungu prophesied over me: “God has a plan. You will have these charities—more than one—through which you will serve and help women and families and you will give them a word from the Lord.”
Like before, this all sounded wonderful. But how could this be?
It was on a Thursday night—September 3, 2015, to be exact—that Jungu prayed over my love life. “Analee has lost so much, Lord,” she began. “She’s had to go through so much. You know who she is! You love her! You’ve heard her cries! You know her heart!”
I knew all these things were true. Still, it overwhelmed my heart to hear my dear friend plead on my behalf. “Lord, I pray that you will not only give back to Analee all that she’s lost, but double! More, Lord! Give her more in a man, and in life, than she asks for or even imagines possible!”
In my heart, I was hopeful but hesitant. I don’t know about all this, Lord. Maybe you could just provide a man who … loves me?
One week later, I met Joel.

Episode 373 - Christi Cossette - Jumpstart Your Journey, Putting Yourself First and Rules To Live By
The most important relationship is with yourself. Are you really putting yourself first?
Putting yourself first goes against what women are taught. We are natural nurturers focused on caring for those around us, often putting others’ needs before our own. We are told to shrink back, be small, don’t take up too much room. Don’t be too loud, too thin, too fat, too tall, too short, the list goes on. It seems its impossible to ever be good enough to meet society’s standards. Especially because it keeps changing. If you spend your life bowing to the opinions, needs and desires of everyone else, you risk losing yourself in the process, never reaching your God given potential and perhaps worst of all, you don’t serve anyone in your life or family well, because you’re too exhausted and confused to do anything well.
You’re in the Right Place…Grab My 20 rules to live by checklist!
This checklist of my 20 Rules to Live By, will help you figure out your big priorities, shifts you can make, setting better boundaries, be more successful and just LOVE your LIFE more!
