So strange. Weirdly spinning. Peculiar yet spectacular. Specially interesting. Unique and like no other. One-of-a-kind. What used to be negative, becomes so hopeful. What the world would call simple and lost, God would call beautiful and Mine.

Listen to "Iba si Ben" ("Ben is Different) as I, together with its author Mommy Charina Regollo read this story of courageous love and friendship together. Daddy Russel joins our talk about childlike kindness and hopeful help.

Weirdo, freak, creepy, straaaange can become extraordinary, special, unique, unlike-any-other once you open your heart and mind to stories of neurodivergent people like those with autism. Neurodivergent minds are featured in great movies like “Rain Man”, “Little Man Tate” and tv shows like “The Good Doctor”. These minds are brains which develop or work differently.

I hope Part 2 of my interview of parents Russel and Charina Regollo will inspire you with their "Power Throughs", their advice like "You have to be open otherwise you will get stuck." and their beautiful stories behind the beautiful book "Iba si Ben" ("Ben is Different").

I just said goodbye to April, which is Autism Awareness Month. But I say hello to all of you who may know at least 1 autistic child to invite you to take a peek at his world. There is 1 of 100 children who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Called different, weird, strange, peculiar, a person diagnosed in the spectrum, after listening to this episode, can become special, delightful, fascinating, one-of–a-kind, like-no-other, a friend. I read the book “Iba si Ben” (“Ben is Different”) with its author Mommy Charina Regollo here, and had a fantastic time getting to know 2 incredible people–courageous and inspiring parents Charina and Russel. Come join our story-telling and story sharing.

After a 2-week break, we resume with the rest of "The Balancing Act" notes. As I shared my discoveries from a talk I did years ago, I found myself relearning, and being reminded that balancing your life IS a lifelong process. Many factors, events and circumstances will push you, shake you, and render you falling flat on your face as you juggle and jiggle, wriggle, and walk that tightrope. I hope this episode will help us all fall gracefully and get up.

    It’s easier said than done
but just do it. This is one of the many ways to manage mental gaps in the process of making art according to Artist Ana Abigail Araneta. She is one of the 13 artists in “Heart in Art”, an Art Show for the benefit of GCF Mercy and Operation Compassion Ministries. In Season 4 Episode 6, I got to interview Ana and here she extends an invitation to all of you to visit the show in ARTablado until March 31, 2024, that’s Easter Sunday at the 3rd floor of Robinsons Galleria, Quezon City. What to expect? At least one artist will be around to meet you and tour you. Appreciating art becomes complete when the artist is around to talk about her work.

Smelled art, smelled love. Smelled hands and hearts collectively creating to express mercy and communication. Smelled love on the cross.

Here’s what I found out about an art show “Heart in Art'' through an interview with artist Ana Abigail Araneta whose wondrous work can be seen here: Be.net/anaraneta and her Instagram accounts. @_anaraneta and @bananapeelings .

Ana and I talked about the 2 sets of her art pieces which you might appreciate more

Ana is a product of the excellent education of the Philippine High School for the Arts, and the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines Diliman. She shares in this episode some ways to manage the challenges of young artists like her.

If only I had multiple arms to balance multiple tasks. I just might make it to the end of this tight rope with balance! But what does this study say? The ability-to-balance-self-on-one-leg-with-eyes-closed test can predict if middle-aged people are at risk of death before the age of 66??? You mean I might not make it to the end at all?

Balance must be important! Discover with me how balance is possible with the help of the One Who is Able, and Strong and is a model of perfect balance.

The more things to juggle, the more challenging it is to balance life. This episode presents the importance of balance, first through the eyes of a child-gymnast multi-sport athlete Irish Planes-Funtalan who was gracious enough to answer my questions. Watch the video-interview here: https://nanaysnotes.blogspot.com/2024/03/the-balancing-act-interview-with-irish.html

Some interesting studies show why balance can mean strength, determine sobriety and predict early death risks like this one: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/the-simple-tests-that-tell-if-you-ll-live-to-a-ripe-old-age-9303994.html

Special appreciation goes to a dear friend Zebedee Zuñiga for helping me make beautiful balance and mix of the Nanay's Notes Season 4 Theme Song used in this episode!

Now that you’ve set your goals for the new year (or at least you’ve been dreaming about them everyday), how do you get there without burn-out or instant failure? For this episode, I will be reading to you an article I wrote for Family Wise Asia entitled “Crawl Before Walking, Walk Before Running”. And it’s all about “Transitioning to a Healthy Lifestyle”.

We will touch on the “Three Day Rule of Effective Habits” and the saying “it takes 21 days to form a new habit”. And then, you’ll hear some practical tips to help you transition to a healthier diet.

We would love to move forward, and live a new beginning this new year. What could be holding us back? Our past?

Can we really totally erase the unforgettable nagging sad parts of our yesteryears? I asked for a little help from award-winning author, mental health advocate and grief counselor Cathy Sanchez Babao for this episode. This episode could launch a fresh start for you!

The Everyday Health website's contents take a look "at the whole person when it comes to health and wellness; aim(s) to create a memorable collection of experiences full of useful information for every part of your health journey, whether you've just been diagnosed, are receiving treatment, have been living with a chronic condition for a while, or are working on lifestyle changes to prevent or reverse a medical condition."

Here’s a short of a short story by Yakob, my youngest about how he appreciates his tatay's cooking.

It’s my birthday today, but I honor Tatay Tot and all the busy hands who withstand the heat in the kitchen just so our tummies and hearts are full.

When Tatay cooks, our world transforms into low-lying clouds, big spoons and forks, plants and pets who long to all be a part of his kitchen. Thank you, Tatay, for being so generous in nourishing me, birthday or not!
