  • We can't WAIT for you to hear this live recording from our Top Of The Morning event at The Barnes Fragrance Fair last Sunday.

What a wonderful day it was and it was so lovely to see so many of you, our dear listeners there.

During our event we had the utter pleasure of interviewing fragrance lover, Barnes resident and acclaimed actress Hayley Mills as well as fragrance industry royalty Chris Yu. It really was a moment that we'll never forget.

  • We’re still pinching ourselves after winning the Jasmine Awards New Media Award for the second year running, for our Halloween Scented Story project! And huge congrats to Suzy @fragrantmaven for her Judges Special Recognition Award for her Substack feature on Rivals characters and their signature scents. We spill a few behind-the-scenes secrets from the ceremony (and those legendary goody bags) in last weekend’s Patreon extra episode – available for subscribers to our patreon.com page.

@marcantoinebarrois were double-winners too, for the magnificent happiness-bottled fragrance, Tilia.

Nicola discovered @parfums_d_inza, a Cotswolds-based house, and loved trying Reine de la Nuit (which she’s sure Suzy will adore) & Eclat Rouge.

Suzy is obsessed with waking up to the glorious new @matierepremierparfums Neroli Oranger Body Wash & Body Lotion – orange blossom, neroli, bergamot, ylang - ylang and musks make every morning a scented sanctuary.

Nicola can’t be without @neomwellbeing Real Luxury Cocooning Shower Cream – her new shower must-have.

Suzy tuned in to the online launch of two new @amouage fragrances: Decision & Existence by Quentin Bish and Renaud Salmon. Decision is electric juniper, scarred wood and vanilla – her new Amouage favourite. Existence is a luminous blend of frankincense and lily of the valley, evoking white feathers and bright light.

Nicola’s go-to is @kilianparis Midnight in Heaven – luscious mango, rice pudding, suncream and pure holiday bliss.

Suzy insists Nicola tries @thomasdemonaco Sol Salgado – all gilded warmth and holiday skin vibes.

We got to try @grove_england Anemone eau de parfum / Hand Cream, founded by Laura Butler - Madden. Chamomile, jasmine, neroli and cedarwood create a fragrance that’s both nostalgic and modern, inspired by the myth of Aphrodite and Adonis.

Suzy is also hugely excited for the new @adidasoriginals @adidasuk Vibes fragrances – fusing neuroscience and scent, created by top perfumers and brilliantly affordable. Huge congrats to @cotyinc and @cotyukpr for doing such a great job on this collection and championing the noses behind the scents. Six mood-boosting fragrances:

Chill Zone – lavender and vanilla (Perfumer: Ilias Ermenidis)

Full Recharge – cedar leaf and clary sage (Perfumer: Emilie Coppermann)

Energy Drive – cardamom and pink pepper (Perfumer: Fabrice Pellegrin)

Spark Up – pink pepper, orange, geranium, lemon (Perfumer: Frank Voelkl)

Get Comfy – mandarin and vanilla (Perfumer: Gabriela Chelariu)

Happy Feels – jasmine and grapefruit (Perfumer: Marypierre Julien)

  • CAN Suzy @fragrantmaven find fragrances for a listener who wants to smell like a cave (yes, really), and for an actor playing Belle’s eccentric inventor dad, Maurice, in Beauty & the Beast the Musical? Of COURSE she can!

This week on the podcast: Nicola shares her dreamy perfumery day in Paris with her mum, exploring the gorgeous Maison @diptyque (complete with its own garden) and falling for L’Eau Papier all over again, before swooning at the divine @dior fashion exhibit. Nicola also finally sniffed some recent launches Suzy raved about: @marcantoinebarrois Aldebaran and @angelaflandersperfumery Shantung Dream.

Then we’re on to some other new exciting launches:

@chanelofficial Chance Eau Splendide – a joyously fruity, sparkling berry scent with a mischievous twinkle. Perfect for carefree days.

@popeyehut asks for inspiration for playing Maurice in Beauty & the Beast – aiming for “a slightly mad, eccentric French inventor.”

    Suzy suggests:

@beaufortlondon Pyroclasm (cold steel meets fire – think wild inventions!)

@dsanddurga Steamed Rainbow (surreal, misty, colourful, dreamlike)

Meanwhile, Jessi @grostesquex.o wants to smell like a cave – hidden, wet, strange, glimmering.

    Suzy’s picks:

CAVE Alheba (from @artparfumsmilano) – matured in turf-dug caves, cold and dank yet comforting, with earthy, incense and woodland notes.

@vyrao Mamajuju – the earthiest scent, with wet red clay, sandalwood, rum and olibanum. “Smell the earth, soaked by rain; feel grounded, connected, awakened.”

What would YOU have answered to both questions?

Until next week (when we’re up for our second @fragrancefoundationuk Jasmine Award and Suzy’s shortlisted in two other categories – cross your fingers for us!), wishing you wonderfully fragrant days ahead. xx

  • This week's On the Scent podcast is a sensory feast spanning art, astrophysics, architecture, cults, rituals and embracing your darker side (while finding the light).

Suzy was staggered by @marcantoinebarrois Aldebaran - a tuberose like no other that's wild, greenly sap-laden and coconutty cool, currently featured in an extraordinary art installation at Milan Design Week (on until 13th April, tickets here:

    Mission ALDEBARAN

    eventbrite.fr

It's particularly mercurial: on Suzy it's ultra green, then cold, metallic and silvery, creamy and addictive; on @blublazerguy it was coconutty, while on @morebrandscents the intriguing paprika pepperiness really came through, so you need to try it on your own skin!

Meanwhile, Nicola’s been delighted about @debenhams upping their fragrance game with niche and heritage brands, including @bastilleparfums Un Deux Trous Soleil (childhood-evoking via sunshine and play dough!), @houbigant_parfum Quelque Fleur (vintage bouquet), and @molinardparfums Molinard de Molinard (70s chic).

@memo.paris takes us on two fragrant journeys: Portobello Road with its myrtle, rose and rain accord that Suzy's been editing on her skin, and Ithaque - an escape to the mythical Greek island with cedar, bergamot and blackcurrant.

Another tuberose that captured Suzy's heart is @manosgerakinis Wild Tuberose - green yet buttery, slightly salty and totally addictive with bergamot, jasmine and woods.

Nicola's fallen for @narcisorodriguezofficial For Her Intense with its vetiver/amber trail, juicy peach and white florals, while we were both surprised by @zadigetvoltaire ZADIG's billowing orange blossom, toasty sesame, fiery ginger and sandalwood.

Suzy's also raving about @thomasdemonaco collection at @lessenteurs, featuring Sol Salgado (sun-kissed skin with salt and linden), Fuego Futuro (a shamanic journey of smoke and incense), and Raw Gold (desire with davana, suede and vanilla).

Finally, both Suzy and Nicola chose @ateliernoite Flowers of Evil Candle with its mysterious datura flower, orange blossom and powdery orris - perfect for after sunset indulgence...

Arkive Dry Shampoo The Reset (limited edition in Decorated Woods fragrance). We adore the so-affordable but utterly gorgeous Arkive fragrances, and Suzy was particularly excited to buy this dry shampoo scented with her favourite of the perfumes.

We were invited to An Ormonde Jayne Mothers Day event at their London boutique. celebrate our mums, and help them choose a fragrance. Nicola’s mum chose a set of travel sizes, as she fell in love with so many. Suzy’s mum wasn’t mobile enough to attend in person, but chose Ta’if, as she felt the description matched her personality (and it’s now her favourite!). Suzy chose Levant for its sunny, radiant optimism. Nicola has fallen for the subtle charms of Xian.

Suzy has her hands on a bottle of the gorgeous new Memo Portobello Road fragrance and teases with a description she’ll continue in the next episode, along with a hint of their next fragrance, which beckons a Greek sun-drenched island (yes please!) More to be revealed next time…

  • Our latest #listenerprescriptions special episode is here! We've been overwhelmed with incredibly inventive, creative questions from our listeners that we simply couldn't wait to dive into. [See our Stories for direct links!]

First up is Emsy, seeking a fragrance for a transformative period in life while dealing with chronic pain and preparing for an exciting theatre production. For under £100, we suggested @ruthmastenbroekperfume Dagian with its refreshing lime, mint and orange blossom notes, @experimentalperfumeclub Bergamot Incense which brings complexity to this radiant citrus, and @joloves Pomelo Oud.

Then Cemile, writing a masters thesis on Circe, needed a scent embodying this witch goddess's duality of savagery and elegance. We prescribed @paul_schutze Tears of Eros, a narcotic green incense rich with resins, @mapoftheheart Purple Heart V.5 with its dark heart of salty liquorice and purple rose, and @montblanc Patchouli Ink which perfectly melds ink, paper and passion.

For Stephen, a tattoo artist working in close proximity with clients, we recommended @akrofragrances Ink with its notes of black ink, tar and vetiver, Gri Gri Tara Mantra (the eau de parfum for tattooed skin!), @vyraoworld Witchy Woo, and @beaufortlondon Coeur de Noir with its dominating ink accords.

Finally, Grace is expecting a baby in May and wanted a soothing yet distinctive scent for labour. We suggested @e11evenfragrance Perfume Oil with its floral geranium and rose notes, @moltonbrown Reviving Rosemary, and @ilapothecary's aroma rollers.

Tune in to hear our full fragrant recommendations and the stories behind them!

  • We've got a cracking Listener Prescription special for you, and let us tell you, it's a real corker. You wouldn’t believe the range of questions we receive, and this week’s episode of On the Scent podcast really showcases the breadth of the people and feelings, places and personas that fragrance can conjure.

From scenting an Irish adventure and matching the weather, to choosing a fragrance to wear for a loved one’s funeral, and even creating a whole new perfume persona for reinvention – our listeners never fail to surprise us with their diverse and deeply touching requests.

We're diving deep into how fragrance can comfort us during difficult times, enhance travel experiences, and even help us embody our most fabulous selves. It's a rollercoaster of emotions and scents, and we can't wait for you to join us on this olfactory journey.

So, pop in those earbuds and let us guide you through our suggestions – and let us know any scents that spring to mind in answer, too!

Here are the questions we answer & scents we suggest:

    For Ashley:

@cloonkeen Báinín - Meaning 'little white', evokes the softness of ivory wool, embodying innocence and plushness in a timeless garment. A delightful blend of freshness and warmth, it carries hints of coastal gorse, dewy herbs, and petrichor after a cloudburst. (Named after the homespun wool used in Aran jumpers and tweed jackets worn by Irish fishermen for generations).

@cloonkeen Roísín Dubh – A mystical Irish rose, Róisín Dubh blends Damascena rose with dry paper and inky patchouli.

The scent deepens into smoky incense, black pepper and tobacco absolute, creating a brooding base.

Named after a rebellious 16th-century song, Róisín Dubh has become a cherished symbol for Irish writers.

@cloonkeen Castaña – A delectable haze of singed yet creamy chestnuts and golden caramel unfolds into a voluptuous blend of Haïtian vetiver, cardamom, and red pepper.

Enriched by delicate cassia absolute and lush jasmine blossoms, it’s a masterpiece.

@laboratorioolfattivo Nun – Nun evokes the primordial waters of Ancient Egypt, symbolising rebirth and the Sun God. Waves of citrus and pear wash to a surging, luminous heart of lotus, jasmine, and ylang-ylang, worshipped by a woody, musky base.

@memo.paris Irish Leather – Irish Leather blends a leather accord with the fresh essence of juniper berries and bitingly green mate. Featuring a fizz of pink pepper, herbaceous clary sage, iris & tonka on a smoked amber base, it pays homage to the Irish roots of Memo Paris' co-founder.

@perfumerhlondon Rainwood – Capturing the essence of the (okay, Scottish) Highlands with grounded beauty, snapped stalks of galbanum and elemi coalesce with clean pepper and droplets of myrrh; all grounded by wet, woody juniper and cedar and patchouli leaves.

    For Becca Monet:

    Pocket-sized, calming and strengthening roll-on scents for wellbeing from @aromatherapyassociates, @neomwellbeing, @tisseranduk, or @marksandspencer.

    For Hannah (& ‘Glory Magnolia’!):

@jovoymayfair @jovoyparis Psychédélique – A groovy time capsule, this scent struts its stuff with the swagger of a '70s rock god. Patchouli takes centre stage, belting out woody notes with the gusto of a Woodstock headliner. It's the olfactory equivalent of a vintage vinyl, crackling with retro charm and rebellious...

  • Valentine's Day is on Friday but instead of talking about fragrances that will make other people fall in love with you, we're chatting through the fragrances that we think you might just fall in love with.

Nicola found a treasure-trove of vintage fragrance jewellery to swoon over @alfiesantiques, and we talk about which of the pieces we most covet [Spolier: ALL of them!] plus we’re discussing the latest launch in the @ormondejayne Montabaco collection – a Sandalore-infused beauty Suzy went mad for; and which previous carnival-esque release Nicola fell in love with.

Then we’re in raptures over the Chinese New Year inspired scent from @boadiceathevictorious: Opal – a luxurious pure perfume that shimmers with pearlescence on a base of velvety darkness. Plus, there’s a brand new Med-Essence fragrance from @templespa – a dewy, sparkling rose we think listeners who love joyous, floral-arched garden-party scents will absolutely adore.

We’re also answering a listener’s question about finding her cousin a stunning amber-rich fragrance that won’t break the bank. Can we hit the olfactory spot with the suggestions we give?

And finally for this week’s perfume-packed episode, we’re reminiscing over the glories of the original @agentprovocateur signature scent (which Nicola’s desperate to get her hands on again), and Suzy tempts further with memories of the sassy @chantaltomass fragrance (which she might have to purchase again, too. Oh dear...)

Then we’re talking about a stunning (and joyously uplifting) fragrance by Jean-Claude Ellena, built around an ingredient that he says “puts a smile into a scent.”

After swooning all over again for one of THE best toasty, sexy-but-cosy vanillas you can buy, and a powerful, artistic take on horse-y aromas; we’re getting a shot of a new celebrity take on the coffee trend.

And finally, we try to find a tuberose fragrance for a listener who hates tuberose, and a vetiver for another who ADORES vetiver (but can’t re-mortgage the house for one she’s addicted to…)

    We discuss:

    @gulforchid.perfumes Tahara Vanilla

  • The SIXTH season of On the Scent (whoah!) has us discussing those scents getting us through what must be the bleakest month in the calendar. What are we wearing, and why?

Nicola’s discovered a new & unusual way to experience a perfume she already had, and loves it even more, now. Plus there’s a new home fragrance brand in town, and believe us when we say they are jawdropping-ly good…

Talking about calendars, we’re highlighting Suzy’s favourites from two incredible fragrance selections, (which may have saved her sanity).

PLUS: we answer #perfumeprescription questions helping one listener who wants to smell edible, and another seeking a perfume for her new pooch (who’s named in honour of Stanley Tucci!) So: what *would* Tucci wear if he were a hound, we wonder?

Then, WE are challenged - pairing four drinks Helena’s chosen to fragrances we feel they’d match with!

We had SUCH fun (and learned a lot) during this episode, and hope you enjoy as much as we did. We discuss…

Suzy & Nicola matching fragrances to four drinks chosen by Helena:

Helena chose: Orange wine: “A sweet savoury thing going on with a nose of bergamot /earl grey tea, tangerine and dried lemon peel. On the palate, it's subtly nutty with bitter citrus peel notes and a touch of cinnamon and cardamom. It has grip a texture - more so than white wine.”
Gros Manseng Orange Wine £7.50 @asda ASDA
Nicola paired: @millerharris Tea Tonique @dior Thé Cachemire

Helena chose: Amarone: “A brooding and powerful (Italian) red wine style that's full-bodied and rich. Pronounced notes of dark, ripe cherry and milk chocolate on the nose. On the palate, it's velvety with darker, bitter chocolate notes, a hint of rose and an incense-like spiciness.”
Masi 'Costasera' Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG, £33.74 (‘mix 6’ price) @majesticwineMajestic
    Suzy paired: @bdkparfumsparis Tabac Rose

Helena chose: Sauternes: “A lusciously sweet wine with an upfront nose of candied lemon peel, marmalade and lemon sherbet. On the palate, marzipan notes with more tropical notes of mango and honeyed apricots. There's a refreshing, zingy acidity though so it's not cloying.”
    L'Or Du Ciron Sauternes, £13 half bottle, @marksandspencerfood & @ocadouk
