In this episode, we talk about how to clear samples and why it's so important to do so - especially when it comes to owning music.
When you use samples in your music, you have to get permission from two sides of the sampled song:
The Publishing (for using the actual songwriting)The Sound Recording/MasterIf you don't get permission from these two sids, you're infringing on the copyrights and can end up in a messy and expensive legal situation that could cost more than the original use itself.
Do the right thing, and clear your samples before dropping music. It was save you thousands of dollars in the long run.

I get this question a lot: "If I'm signed up with ASCAP or BMI, then why do I also need to sign up with a publishing administration company?"
Or when I ask people "Are you in a publishing deal" the respond with, "Yes, I'm with ASCAP".

Remember, PRO's only represent your public performance right and only collect performance royalties.
