The Disappeared – A wild, fun and sexy burlesque cabaret that tells the true story of a queer Latinx voice robbed of their freedom and forced into exile during a government coup in South America. Experience first-hand a final night of joy and freedom of expression, before the Chilean government regime change challenges the country's LGBTQIA+ community and robs them of their personal freedom and identity. BATSHIT
Women have long been locked up, medicated, pathologized and silenced by a simple label - ‘crazy’. BATSHIT is a wildly theatrical, unexpectedly funny, and deeply intimate story of female madness. Created by psycho-siren Leah Shelton (AU) and directed by Olivier award-winning performance artist Ursula Martinez (UK), this is a requiem for Leah’s grandmother Gwen, who was incarcerated for seeking independence in 1960s Australia. BATSHIT draws on personal stories, pop psychology and Prozac-laden humour to explore the myths, fantasies and fears that keep us compliant, and the systems that let us down. Dedicated to all the women labelled hysterical, psycho, hormonal and deluded by a society that seeks to control and discredit their experiences.
    LEAH SHELTON
Psycho-siren Leah Shelton creates stylized, guttural, renegade feminist work soaked in cult references and dark humour. Her work has taken her from the glamour of Las Vegas to the back streets of Kings Cross, from rigorous training in Japan to live art festivals in New York. As a solo artist, Leah has played on and off West End in London. She has graced the cabaret stages of La Clique, Club Briefs, Little Death Club, Vegas Nocturne and Jonny Woo’s infamous UnRoyal Variety Show. Her first solo work, ‘Terror Australis’, received numerous awards and toured Australia and France. Leah’s second solo work, ‘Bitch On Heat’, directed by UK Performance Art luminary Ursula Martinez, has toured to major festivals in Australia and Soho Theatre London to critical acclaim and standing ovations. With Lisa Fa’alafi, Leah is Co-Director of artist collective Polytoxic, creating hyper-visual works underpinned by diversity and collaboration. Polytoxic have presented work at PS122’s COIL Festival NYC, Harbourfront Centre Canada, WanSmolbag Vanuatu, Sydney Opera House, Darwin Festival, Brisbane Festival, APAM, Bleach*, Enlighten, ArtsHouse Melbourne, Ten Days on the Island, Brisbane Powerhouse and QPAC.Originally dance-trained, Leah has a diverse performance background including over ten years training in the Suzuki Actor Training Method with Frank Theatre (Brisbane, AU), Suzuki Company of Toga (Toga / Shizuoka, Japan) and SITI Company (New York, USA).

A big-hearted, irreverent rom-com, perfect for a feel good Christmas treat. Cyrano is the most interesting person in any room – a wordsmith, a charmer. She works twice as hard and runs twice as fast as the pretty boys, because she’s deeply ashamed of something about herself. Enter Roxanne: brilliant and beautiful, with a penchant for poetry and a way with words, just like Cyrano. But Roxanne only has eyes for Yan: hot, manly Yan; all brawn-and-no-brains Yan; who is dumbstruck around Roxanne. Probably shy, right? Until suddenly he starts saying the most amazing things. But it’s not Yan writing these perfect love scenes, it’s Cyrano …Virginia Gay “Virginia Gay graduated WAAPA, then spent four years pretending to be a nurse on All Saints, six months pretending to be cop on Savage River (ABC), and then five years on Winners & Losers, where she pretended to know a lot about high finance. That last one, particularly, was a stretch. She won a Sydney Theatre Award for Best Actress for Calamity Jane, starred in the film Judy & Punch which premiered at Sundance, and wrote and directed her first short film Paper Cut, which made Tropfest finals. In 2020 she wrote two new plays: an adaptation of Cyrano for MTC and The Boomkak Panto for Belvoir, which premiered December 2021. • Today Elaine chats to comedian, writer and actor Elaine Malcolmson about her new show Joik. We chat the inspiration for the show, how you can find yourself lost after something huge happens in your life and you are dealing with grief, we take the fringe experience and much more, Joik- Gilded Balloon, Patter House - The PennyDates: 31st July- 24th August@ 7.40 pmTickets available here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/elaine-malcolmson-joikJoikElaine Malcolmson returns to the Fringe with a comic journey from lost to found in the company of a reindeer. A gentle show that aims to bring hope and solace to all, Joik explores human emotion, memory and connection with the help of a hardy Arctic mammal.Feeling lost and misunderstood in the wake of a bereavement, Elaine is gifted a reindeer with unexpected consequences. Follow her unlikely path from grief to comfort in what is probably the second-best show about a reindeer you’ll see this year. Finding somewhere beautiful to put the things we never asked for in the first place, Joik makes its way to a resolution of unapologetic optimism, celebrating the small moments of understanding that remind us we're alive. You will also learn a fair bit about antlers. These fragile subjects are in safe hands as Elaine is an award winning comedian, writer and actor whose previous shows have examined loneliness using Disney princesses and looked at the hopelessness of capitalism using salad spinners.Elaine MalcolmsonBorn and raised in Northern Ireland, and now living in Glasgow via a stint in Wales, Elaine is known for her deliciously dry humour and original take on everything from current affairs to colouring in. A Scottish Variety Award nominee and Scottish Comedy Award winner, Elaine’s TV and radio work includes BBC Scotland’s Breaking the News and whatever combination of these you think is most impressive: Good Morning Scotland, A Funny Kind of Life and Death (they’re both BBC Radio Scotland) Radio 4 Extra Stands Up, BBC 2’s What Women Want, BBC NI’s The Blame Game. She has gigged across the UK, performing at the Big Tickle Comedy Festival in Derry, Merchant City Festival in Glasgow, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Glasgow International Comedy Festival; she made her international comedy debut at New York Comedy Festival in 2012. Elaine has written for and performed in various sketch groups including the Stockholm Syndrome and Alchemy. • Today Elaine chats to poet and Storyteller Laura Thurlow about her new show River Time. We talk about the inspiration for the show, how women aren’t allowed to grow old and still be beautiful as well as touching on discovering something about yourself that changes everything.

River Time- Greenside@Riddles Court - Picles Studio
    Dates: 9th - 24th August
    @ 1.45 pm

    Tickets available here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/river-time

    River Time
River Time! pulls its title from one of the show’s opening anecdotes. As a student in Edinburgh with unmanaged ADHD, Laura would often go for a night out on the Cowgate, perceive someone as looking at her wrong, become paranoid that her friends secretly despised her, and have a meltdown. To regulate these intense emotions, she would take moonlit walks at 4am along the water of Leith. To this day, if she texts a friend River Time, they know that she means her brain is on fire. A little understood aspect of ADHD is the resulting impact of the Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria that sits alongside it. These mood swings, this intense fear of rejection, are felt in the body as intense emotional pain. Laura’s fear of rejection takes her to the river, calls her to the sea, begs her to submit to the absolution of dark waters. Better to be a beautiful corpse than a failed woman. Laura’s brain is ruining her life and plotting her death. This is a one-woman treatise on deciding not to drown. River Time! discusses Hamlet’s Ophelia and the life and loss of Virginia Woolf. Laura tells anecdotes of rejection and desperation – feeling adrift in one’s own mind. She speaks on grief, and guilt through describing the loss of a friend who did not survive their messy student days. The show is a dark storytelling hour from a gifted comedic voice. It is nuanced and entertaining while inherently and enduringly relatable. Come along and take some River Time!
