  • Heavy emphasis on the “hanging” as the podcast this week finds Dewsbury suffering from a fairly sizeable hangover. Unsurprisingly - and rightly so - Moose has precisely zero sympathy. Appropriately enough, they do end up discussing the imminent release of Primordial’s Dirty Panda spiced rum, even though the thought of it makes Dews feel quite ill.

The rock news this week includes details of Pendulum's long-awaited new album and live dates, Iron Maiden kicking off their 50th anniversary tour with a truly astonishingly good setlist, and a remarkable story about how a family's decision to attend a Metallica concert may have saved their lives. The conversation shifts to Metallica's ongoing M72 World Tour and the business dynamics behind it, including the freedom - and responsibilities - that come with being a major band. The guys also touch on Ice Nine Kills' controversial use of AI art for plugging their recent merch sale, raising questions about the implications of AI in the creative industry.

  • The latest podcast sees Moose and Dews having a good catch-up, discussing some of their ongoing challenges with respect to work-life balance, particularly in relation to family responsibilities and mental health while WFH. While they’re on the subject of shop-talk, there’s also updates on the merch situation, and the latest on Dirty Panda; the soon-to-be-released Primordial spiced rum!

The rock news this week features Iron Maiden's request for concert-goers to “severely” limit phone use during their upcoming tour. The guys explore the impact of mobile phones on the gig-going experience and the differing approaches taken by bands like Ghost, Tool and Iron Maiden. Unsurprisingly (given that they’re literally everywhere atm!) the conversation then shifts to the meteoric rise of Sleep Token, as they have broken yet more records with the release of their latest album Even In Arcadia. There’s also a tribute to the hard work and sheer grit of the Slam Dunk festival team, and mention of Trivium’s recent kitten collab #wholesomemetalcontent

  • It’s rock news this week, as Moose and Dews chat about the potential for Sleep Token to score their first UK #1 album with the recently-released Even In Arcadia. This leads to the question of WTF is actually happening, with their crazy song lyric-capitalisation on Apple Music seemingly pointing to further developments. Will it be a tour announcement, unreleased tracks, or even a second part to the new album? Either way, this will likely be a Music Marketing 101 case study for years to come.

The guys also take a look at the potential fallout between Trivium and Bullet for My Valentine, as well as Dewsbury’s entirely reasonable Download 2026 predictions, before taking care of some Primordial business with a merch update.

  • After the standard discussion of ridiculously early mornings, coffee, and bugs, Moose and Dews finally get on with it this week, as Dews chats with Skindred’s Benji Webbe about the bands’ newly-completed ninth album(!), their upcoming SMR25 show in Stevenage, and the potential for future festival appearances.

They also chat about the latest rock news, including Ghost's recent chart success and the resurgence of vinyl sales in the music industry, along with unique (ahem) merchandise related to the band. They also stumble upon a surprise news story concerning the influence of go-to producer/musician Jordan Fish on Machine Head's new album, the ongoing controversy surrounding Soundgarden's final album, and Killswitch Engage's upcoming tour.

  • When the podcast starts with a discussion about shark-filled tornados, just know it’s going to be all over the place…

In this episode of Primordial: The Podcast, Moose and Dews - once they’ve discussed the aforementioned tornados, wildlife and the Spanish power grid - go through the latest rock news, including the possibility of a new album from Vimic, the newly-announced Halestorm tour, and the latest in Metallica’s remasters series.

This leads into a discussion on the current state of the metal scene, particularly modern metalcore. Is the scene stagnant, like a snake eating it’s own tail, with bands failing to innovate, or does this reflect more on Dews’ own feeling of disconnection from modern music? There's no rule that says you have to keep liking the same thing forever, so why does it feel bad to lose the love for something?

  • This week on the podcast, Moose and Dews celebrate the success of Those Damn Crows, who recently achieved their first UK number one album, as well as discussing Halestorm's new track that showcases a different musical direction for the band.

They also discuss Ozzy Osbourne's preparations for his farewell show, including endurance and weight training. Not bad for a 76 year-old! Ozzy also has more licensing deals than most OAPs as well. The guys also pay tribute to legendary Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker, while Dews shares a captivating review of a Heilung concert. They should burn herbs at every gig tbh.

  • Both Moose and Dews have a long history with Halestorm, first meeting the band over 13 years ago during a radio station acoustic session, so they are both well-qualified to talk about the band, their evolution in the music industry, and the dynamics of the rock and metal scene.

As the band gear up to release their new album, Moose and Dews look ahead to Halestorm's potential for future success and their impact on fans and the industry.

Also, listen out for Dews studiously failing to mention that he once unsuccessfully tried sliding into Lzzy Hale’s DMs. Ahem.

  • Moose and Dews are covering all the bases this week, with the conversation ranging from parenting challenges and why there should be bars at soft play centers, through to sleep deprivation and the upcoming Naked Gun reboot.

Eventually they get onto rock news and music-related topics, with a discussion about some newly announced tours, and Loudwire’s recent “dad rock” tournament, in which the ever-changing concept of the term is pushed to the limit.

  • Moose and Dews catch up this week with chat about new music releases and upcoming events in the heavy metal scene.

Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine - who is also Music Director at this summer’s Back To The Beginning/Black Sabbath show - has been interviewed recently, and has hinted at surprise superstar guests for the event. The guys speculate on potential appearances by stars such as Rob Halford, Elton John, Jack Black and other notable figures, with one major conclusion; If they’ve ever had beef with Sharon Osbourne, they won’t be there!

The conversation then shifts to Linkin Park's recent comeback, exploring the challenges they face in ticket sales and the dynamics of the current live music scene.

  • Hosts Moose and Dewsbury catch up again this week to discuss the innovative - and controversial - phone-free concert experiment to be carried out by Ghost on their upcoming tour.

The thinking is that people who spend entire shows recording on their phones creates a disconnected experience, which the experiment aims to remedy by removing phones from the show, while allowing people to keep hold of their possessions at all times. Is forcing people to relinquish their mobile devices a step too far? Or is it a necessary step to create a better experience for all? The guys discuss the issue, with their differing viewpoints.

The conversation also touches on the recently-announced Powerwolf show at Wembley, updates on new merchandise, and Moose and Dews updating their social calendars for gigs.

  • Moose returns to the podcast, so this week he and Dews catch up, with the main topic of conversation being Download 2025 headliners Sleep Token. The guys ask the question “are they overrated?” and the answer may surprise you.

Given that Sleep Token only debuted in 2016, and that they are soon to release their fourth album proper, it’s remarkable that they are soon to headline the UK’s largest rock festival. Equally remarkable, are the facts that…

Sleep Token have accumulated over 100M YouTube streams in the last 2 years. The Summoning alone has over 30M streams on YouTube, and over 200M on Spotify! They have over 1 billion Spotify streams in total.

If questioning whether the band is overrated or not, surely these numbers alone beg the question “who is doing the rating?”; If a band is highly-rated, but literally millions of fans are loving their music, can they be overrated? Moose and Dews explore the dynamics of industry hype in music, discussing the double-edged nature of hype, the importance of organic reach, and the authenticity of music.

  • In the latest episode of Primordial: The Podcast, Moose is away, so Pete joins Dews for his record-breaking fourth podcast in-a-row! And there was much rejoicing.

There’s a whole host of rock news to get into this week, so of course they spend the first 40 mins of the podcast discussing streaming, YouTube, and the dynamics of paid subscriptions. They explore the future of media and content creation, the challenges faced by creators in the music industry, and the downright weirdness of ASMR content.streaming.

They eventually get on to the news, discussing the recent controversial performance by Tool at a festival, Billy Corgan's innovative new rock opera, and Devin Townsend's ambitious project that aims to redefine live music experiences. The episode concludes with a celebration of successes within the rock scene, emphasizing the shared victories among creators and musicians.

Could Sleep Token land a spot on the Stranger Things Season 5 soundtrack? With Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna) recently dropping a Sleep Token cover, it’s hard not to wonder if this is more than just a cool crossover moment. Could it be a subtle hint of what’s to come?

This week, Moose & Pete dive into some fun speculation, asking whether Sleep Token could have their own Metallica: Master of Puppets moment in the upcoming season. With their atmospheric and haunting sound, the band feels like a natural fit for the dark, supernatural world of Stranger Things. Tracks like Take Me Back to Eden, Chokehold, and The Summoning seamlessly blend ethereal melodies with crushing intensity - perfect for the eerie aesthetic of the show.

The guys also chat about the legacy of Download Festival and how it has evolved over the years. From line-up strategies to the balance between marketing and artistic integrity, they explore the festival’s adaptability in an ever-changing music landscape. Plus, they discuss the growing role of digital innovations in live music and whether hologram performances are the future or just a passing gimmick.

    Episode Breakdown

Why nostalgia still plays a huge role in music and entertainment The rise of Sleep Token and their possible Stranger Things crossover How cultural moments can elevate lesser-known bands to prominence How Download Festival has adapted to changing musical trends The debate over holograms in live performances—innovation or gimmick? Parkway Drive has announced they will be performing with a full symphony orchestra at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

In this episode, Moose & Pete look at why this event is so important for Parkway Drive and heavy music as a whole. They reflect on how symphonic elements have shaped the genre over the years, from Metallica’s S&M to Devin Townsend at the Total Albert Hall, more and more bands are putting their spin on a full orchestra show.

Beyond Parkway Drive, the conversation turns to the festival circuit, with a spotlight on Download Festival's second announcement. The guys analyse the line-up, including the disappearance of Liquid Death as a sponsor and the shifting trends in festival bookings.

There's also discussion about Black Sabbath & Ozzy's final show, with Guns N' Roses, Tool and Jason Mamoa added as host to the line-up. They look at the sheer significance of the event and what will this mean for metal forward without the big names to prop up the scene.

  • The Vans Warped tour is back in 2025 for a special 30th anniversary run, taking in 3 dates in the U.S. They’re announcing the line-ups in a unique way, given that it’s the 30th anniversary of the festival, so they’re doing 30 days of Warped, drip feeding bands out over the course of a month.

There have been some negative comments online from fans who were hoping to see some bigger-name artists than have (so far) been announced.

In this episode of Primordial: The Podcast, Moose and Dews discuss the evolution of festival lineup announcements, the changing demographics of festival audiences, and the balance between nostalgia and new talent in music festivals. The conversation also touches on the relevance of heritage acts, the economics behind Warped Tour's comeback, and the importance of footwear with proper arch support (looking at you, Vans!)

They also chat about ticket pricing, particularly in relation to the upcoming Black Sabbath final show, and their hopes for a livestream because - let’s face it - the chances of getting tickets are not exactly great!

  • Surviving NIRVANA members - drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist-turned-actual-band member Pat Smear reunited onstage last Thursday night (January 30th) during the FireAid benefit concert in LA for a previously-unannounced performance of several of Nirvana’s classic songs.

Filling the lead vocal slot vacated by Kurt Cobain's death almost 31 years ago were guest singers St. Vincent, Joan Jett, Kim Gordon and Violet Grohl, Dave's 18-year-old daughter.

There’s plenty of other occasions over the last 30-odd years where the Nirvana guys have played together as well, and with Youtube views of their FireAid performance already well into the millions, it doesn’t feel disrespectful to ask the question; Is it time for a full-on Nirvana reunion?

The guys also chat about new releases from Spiritbox and Stray From The Path, along with big announcements from Radar Festival and Arctangent.

  • After a four year investigation, Marilyn Manson will face no criminal charges in regards to multiple allegations made against him. In this episode of the Primordial Podcast, Moose and Dews discuss what impact - or not - this may have on Manson’s career, given the huge response from fans to previously “cancelled” artists such as Phil Anselmo and Falling In Reverse.

The guys also discuss the rising popularity of Electric Callboy and their impact on the music scene and streaming numbers. Are they the heroes that Gotham needs, or the ones that we deserve?

There’s also a look back at the recent Primordial Burns Night event in Stirling, Scotland, that was a roaring success, despite the best efforts of the weather.

  • TikTok has been a major talking point online recently, with the potential ban - or not - in the U.S. so this week Moose and Dews explore the value of the platform to bands, asking several questions…

Why would bands use the platform? Is it worth their time, or would that time be better used on other things? If so, what things? Are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X and YouTube viable options?

They also explore the evolving landscape of the music industry, focusing on the shifting roles of gatekeepers and influencers, the impact of the internet, and the nature of content creation in the age of controversy and rage-bait. They also realise - via plague-ridden 19th Century influencers - that times, technology and platforms may have changed, but people have not.

They also pay tribute to the late John Sykes, discuss new music from As December Falls and One Morning Left, and make themselves feel old by discussing a few albums having their silver anniversaries (25 YEARS?! Hybrid Theory, anyone?) in 2025.

Killswitch Engage Architects Spiritbox Machine Head Sleep Token (that’s the kind of!)

They delve into the evolution of the bands, and discuss the importance - or not - of having a unique gimmick in today's music industry, along with the anticipation surrounding new releases and the significance of live performances in shaping audience perceptions.

They also discuss the latest rock news, including the community's response to the California wildfires and the hypocrisy within the music industry regarding promotional activities during crises.
