With more than 1,100 franchises in 170 markets across the country. David joined the company in 2005 as director of franchise systems and developed a process for coaching franchisees. Don Cameron has been a We Buy Ugly Houses franchisee since 2005. His goal has been to grow his business every year and he has been extremely fortunate to have been recognized as the HomeVestors franchise of the year 5 of the past 10 years. Don originally joined HomeVestors to grow his business by becoming part of a nationally recognized brand and to take advantage of the fact that HomeVestors allows franchisees to focus on buying houses - something he has proven to be very successful at doing. Since becoming a franchisee in 2005, Don has purchased more than 1,500-2,000 homes from local sellers. Interview Questions Asked: Tell me a little bit about HomeVestors and the work your franchise does? How is HomeVestors different from a traditional real estate business? Tell me a bit about your time with HomeVestors and the work you have done for homeowners in the South Florida market. What is the biggest benefit a homeowner who wants to sell gets in working with HomeVestors? When you first saw the home that was later designated as the Ugliest House of the Year, what was your reaction and if you could renovate it to a point in which it was livable again? What was some of the work that you and your team put into the house, and what were the biggest challenges? Can you tell me a bit about the final outcome of helping the previous homeowner out of a bad situation by offering cash for the house and then renovating it for a new homeowner? What are some of the characteristics you look for in an ideal franchisee? Learn more about “The Ugliest House of the Year” and this man, Don Cameron, a franchisee, orchestrated a dramatic turnaround. He then provided a home to a young family, and donated $20,000 so other families could afford homes. HOW IT GOT UGLY: There was a single candle lit outside on the back patio of a single story ranch house in Hollywood, Florida. The wind blew the candle over onto a rug, which caught fire, and within minutes the 1,035-square-foot home was engulfed in flames. extensive smoke damage extensive structural damage the home was unlivable the owner did not want to spend any time or money to repair it. HOW IT GOT PRETTY: Cameron bought the house “as is” Gave the homeowner instant money without having to make repairs prior to the sale He then completed a full renovation that included extensive work and upgrades on: drywall electric plumbing paint floors landscaping FAMILIES BENEFIT - $20,000: Cameron then sold the house to a family with a young child They appreciated being able to move in without needing to do any work to the house or property Thrilled with the total makeover of the home Now enjoys being able to host family and friends in their first home and large backyard As an added bonus, Don Cameron and HomeVestors recently made a $20,000 donation to the local Habitat for Humanity, a global non-profit housing organization, to support its mission to help families in need of decent and affordable housing. SCOTT R. FREERKSEN Co-Founder | Chief Executive Officer Scott dedicated the first 17 years of his career in a variety of New England high-tech corporate management positions. This experience in engineering, personnel, documentation, and finance created the foundation for his future entrepreneurial roles. Scott started Lakefront Living Realty in 2009 with only the state of Massachusetts represented on LakefrontLiving.com. The site quickly became the one-stop-shop for consumers looking to learn the full details of area lakes, find direct lakefront properties quickly, and connect with local lakefront specialty agents.
As the number of visitors magnified, so did the need for more lakes. New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut were soon added. With a territory this large, Scott set up systems to run the business, and a teams of specialty agents to run the systems. His role quickly evolved to working “on” the business and not “in” it…learning he could multiply his business revenue while drastically reducing his time involved.
This proven model soon caught the eye of his future business partner, Christine Mosier, and in 2014, the two entrepreneurs founded Lakefront Living International, LLC, a national real estate franchise company dedicated to providing this unique business model to agents who share their passion for the lakefront lifestyle. Scott and Chris refer to franchisees as “partners”, as that better describes their relationship.
Scott, his wife Linda, and daughter Sydney, live in a log home on Bungay Lake in Massachusetts. They are avid boaters and enjoy everything the lakefront lifestyle has to offer.

Tom Branch has been in private practice since 1980, after graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from Emory University in 1975, graduating with High Honors. Tom is also a member of the American and Atlanta Bar Associations, as well as the State Bar of Georgia. He is a member of the American Bar Association Forum on Franchising. He was a co-founder of the Southeast Franchise Forum and the Atlanta Bar Association Franchise Law Committee. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Bar Association and served as a Board Member and as Chairman of the Board of the Atlanta Bar Association Sole Practitioner and Small Firm Section. He was the author of “Franchising in Georgia,” in the Georgia State Bar Journal, November, 1987.

President
Chris Conner has been a franchise consultant working with business owners and brands to support growth through franchising since 2001. His experience in the franchise development industry began with a Chicago-based franchise consulting firm where Mr. Conner had the opportunity to work with a variety of successful franchise systems including Jimmy John’s, European Wax Center, 911 Restoration, Smash Burger, Marco’s Pizza, Mad Science Group and other franchise systems where he was able to learn the franchise development process.
In 2009, Mr. Conner founded Franchise Marketing Systems (FMS) in Atlanta, Georgia. FMS was developed in order to provide a full-service franchise development solution to new and existing franchisors. FMS provides strategic planning, FDD and Franchise Agreement development, Operations and Training Program development and Marketing Development to bring new brands to market as a franchise, then supports the franchise sales and marketing of the franchise. Today, Mr. Conner oversees the FMS team and works directly with clients to execute the franchise development process with brands globally.
Since 2009, FMS has developed over 400 franchise brands and has a team of over 28 franchise consultants. FMS has developed successful franchise brands including Anytime Fitness, Baxter Healthcare, Blimpie, Hungry Howie’s Pizza, Restoration 1, Smash My Trash, Two Men and a Truck along with others. The FMS Team has been able to align with brands and franchise systems with a unified, consistent approach focused on growth, systems and transitioning from company-owned businesses to a scalable franchise system.
Mr. Conner holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Management Information Systems from Miami of Ohio University and an MBA in Finance from DePaul University in Chicago. He is married to Alaina Conner and has two children, Ashton and Jameson who make every day exciting and full of adventure.

Michael started out his career in business ownership after leaving a leadership position in a large durable goods manufacturing business out of MI. Through his first business endeavor in the indoor trampoline business in 2010, with a goal to franchise the concept, was introduced to franchising through a business ownership workshop in Los Angeles.
After realizing the power of growing a business model through franchising, Michael took on a position as a Franchise consultant in the Los Angeles market helping budding entrepreneurs find their business match through select franchise opportunities. Henry Lee is the owner of Always Best Care St. George. His background is in commercial real estate, owning and operating apartment communities in Northern California. In addition, he bought, ran, and sold a laundry facility in Oakland, California, while completing his MBA at the University of San Francisco. Before that, Henry worked at several tech and media startups in the Bay Area. Having already won the "Best of Southern Utah" award under the first year of operating the franchise, Henry's goal is to scale Always Best Care to Northern Utah and beyond. He credits his wife and mother, who also work in the business, and their fantastic caregivers for their steady growth. His long-term goal is to continue investing and scaling hard to disrupt industry verticals such as senior care, real estate, and the food industry.
