Welcome to Intermezzode Take2, aka are we better at this whole remote thing yet?! The stinger section says NO!
Join us as we cover a few listener questions related to everyone’s favorite Magician, Adam Parrish! We talk headcanons about how Blue found out about Pynch, how Adam’s deafness may or may not be used as a plot device, how readers can interpret characters and find personal representation regardless of textual evidence, and how sometimes those interpretations can be difficult for others due to extenuating circumstances and lived experiences (or lack thereof).
CAUTION: This Intermezzode has some discussion of abuse as it relates to Adam’s hearing loss, as well as topics of race in the context of the Raven Cycle and the systemic oppression of Native/Indigenous populations in the U.S.A. These are sensitive and difficult topics and we urge you to please practice compassion while listening. For resources surrounding domestic/familial abuse, please visit RAINN (rape, abuse, and incest national network) with a 24/7 chat available: https://www.rainn.org/

Welcome to Intermezzode Take1, aka how do we do this whole remote recording thing and what the heck happened to a whole year?!?!
Join us as we stumble through what it takes to record in two different places, answer questions about when we might come back with Season 3, talk about how we got through 2020, and recommend a few things that we enjoyed and/or helped us cope. We also dunk on South Dakota a little too much (Sorry, SD!), are baffled by the thought of a whole town in one building (Hi, Whittier!), update Shannon on the status of the TRC TV show, hint at the plans we had for covering Maggie’s YA graphic novel Swamp Thing, and debate whether the “X” in XOXO is a hug or a kiss.
NOTE: We apologize for the quality of Shannon’s audio, we do believe we have worked out the kinks for future recordings!
CAUTION: This Intermezzode discusses the impacts that the difficult and isolating time of 2020 had on our mental health. Please, always put yourself first and practice self-love and compassion while listening. If you or anyone you know may be experiencing a painful crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, available 24 hours a day (USA) or use their chat function at http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/GetHelp/LifelineChat.aspx

Welcome to Season 3 Episode 31, where we cover the Prologue through Chapter 1 of Blue Lily, Lily Blue!
Shannon starts off this season totally subdued and not at all excited to be covering BLLB… YAH RIGHT! We kick off the first two chapters of Blue Lily, Lily Blue reintroducing the characters, their quest, and a bottomless pit. Who really is the MacGuffin in this book? How many pages of a novel could possibly take place only in a cave? How many Deep Dive pages did Shannon have to delete about animals, and how many did Nievita delete about ghosts?
Actually, I don’t think we answer any of those questions, but we do talk about the topics of crappy highschool poetry, why Sassy Adam is the Best Adam, who is Nievita’s BROTP of the Raven Cycle, how to tell a jig from a reel, how incredibly gross humans can be (SO GROSS), and reiterate, “When in doubt, always blame Niall.” If you have read Call Down The Hawk, stick around after the stinger for our new SPOILER ZONE!
DEEP DIVE: Cave Systems of Appalachia (from approx. the 36:42 minute mark to 54:38, depending on your player)
SPOILER ZONE: Call Down The Hawk Spoiler Discussion starts at approx. 1:34:02
CORRECTION: Nievita stated from memory that Blue Lily, Lily Blue was originally titled “The White Lily”. Maggie’s post was later found saying the title was “White Lily, Blue Lily”

Caves! Missing moms! Mirrors! We’re back, and we’re diving deep into the third book of the Raven Cycle, Blue Lily, Lily Blue. Do you have your caving helmet and a stout rope? It’s going to be dangerous where we’re headed… you’re going to need them!
Welcome to our teaser for Season 3 of the Ravin’ Girls, reintroducing your co-hosts Shannon and Nievita. What is this podcast all about, and why are we doing it? More importantly, when do we expect to return with the first episode of BLLB?!? Stick around to the stinger to see if we’ve gotten any better at this recording gig after two years. ;D

Welcome to our episode covering Maggie Stiefvater’s first novel in the new Dreamer Trilogy, CALL DOWN THE HAWK!!! Can you tell we’re excited?!
All of the Lynch boys are in trouble (what else is new?), mysterious art forgeries and forgers tantalize in the Fairy Market, dreamers and dreamed objects are hunted, strange voices come out of the dark, and the fires of the apocalypse burn on the horizon. Join us as we discuss what worked best for us and what didn’t, funniest moments and favorite new characters, agonize over our biggest questions, review our past predictions, and reveal our most head-explody moments. Would we choose to be dreamers if we had the chance? Listen and find out!
NOTES: No Deep Dive, just lots and lots of wild theorizing as to what happens next

Welcome to the final episode of Season 2, where we discuss our feelings on finishing The Dream Thieves and talk about what we’re looking forward to in Blue Lily, Lily Blue!
Can anyone believe that it’s been two books, two seasons, and two years? We can’t! Join us for this Season 2 wrap up and Two Year Anniversary episode, where we talk about what we remember most fondly about Season 2, what the struggles of the past year have been, and what we’re most looking forward to for Season 3!
We also talk other books, movies, TV shows, fancasts, non-ancient poetry, and what we like to do when we’re not working on the podcast. Thank you to everyone who got in touch, and we look forward to inviting you all to our Three Year Anniversary… it’s not all that far away, really. Love!
DEEP DIVE: No Deep Dive, but lots of Listener Questions!
NOTE: Both of us were thinking of the paperback copies when answering the question, “Which cover is your favorite/least favorite?” I know I (Nievita) would have answered differently for the hardcover editions!

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 30, where we cover Chapters 60 through the Epilogue of The Dream Thieves!
Two dreamers. Two monsters. Two brothers. Two battles. One. Epic. PARTY!!! This is it! The final episode of Season Two! Buckle in and strap your helmet on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The final showdown between Kavinsky and Ronan. The final showdown between The Gray Man and his brother. A little bro is rescued, and a mom disappears. There are tears. And excitement. And dragons!
We lament our small town experiences, Shannon tries to avoid getting on any sort of Watch List, we talk about comfort music, Nievita throws some shade at early Merlin myths, and we try to figure out where the box of tissues is hiding. Whoo, boy. You might want to grab one for yourself, too!

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 29, where we cover Chapters 54-59 of The Dream Thieves!
Ronan and the Gray Man finally meet face-to-face and it goes about as well as one might expect--possibly better, even. Persephone and Adam frantically fix the ley line as the 4th of July looms large in the sky. Why must they hurry? Seems like someone’s favorite baby brother may have been teen-napped… some guys really do just blow right past flowers and chocolate to cars and threats, don’t they?
We discuss how long it’s been since we’ve seen “The Birds”, what items we would most miss if we had to go on the run, Shannon questions how much Nievita really is a fire sign and makes some surprisingly off-color jokes, Nievita’s pet naming conventions stay strong to a theme, and we finally get around to naming that new Metal band we’ve been talking about starting.

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 28, where we cover Chapters 50-53 of The Dream Thieves!
It’s Adam’s turn for learning about his life-altering mystical experience, while Blue and Gansey go out for a totally-not-romantic-let’s-never-talk-about-this drive through the Henrietta hills. Ronan has a chat with his (dead? dream?) dad, and the Gray Man gets some bad family news of his own. We compare our favorite pies and favorite paintings, Shannon covets the Lisa Frank tarot deck, and Nievita drops some seriously dark theories behind Prokopenko’s resurrection. Greenmantle says possibly the creepiest thing ever, and Shannon breaks the harsh news that fictional characters don’t know we exist.

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 27, where we cover Chapters 44-49 of The Dream Thieves!
So much angst, practically every character hits bottom. That means the only thing left is up, right? Nievita tells basically everyone except Kavinsky to eff off, and Shannon calls Greenmantle a b*tthole which is basically the same thing. We talk symbolism in Feng Shui and Japanese buffets, and disagree on the extent that K is responsible for Cabeswater’s disappearance. There are some tears--but possibly not from who you would expect. Calla gives our first solid hints about how time works in The Chicken Cycle, and we award our most expansive MVC yet!
DEEP DIVE: Stereotypes and Media Tropes relating to Joseph Kavinsky (from approx. the 20:29 minute mark to 30:01, depending on your player)
CAUTION: In our Deep Dive we discuss the broad history of media portrayals of queerness and ethnicity. While we always try to be as sensitive as possible, we understand that this is a much more nuanced topic than we can possibly cover in 10 minutes. Please exercise caution while listening if you find this topic personally sensitive. Love!

Welcome to the Call Down The Hawk Special Episode!!! Where we cover the excerpt released by Scholastic, Prologue-Chapter 8.
So many new characters! So many new things to be worried about! SO MUCH EXCITEMENT!
Find out what Shannon would have called the black market, what 90’s British cartoon Nievita thinks might be related to dreamers, the possible meaning behind the new dream-forest’s name, and what we found most shocking and satisfying about the excerpt. We answer (or ramble) some listener questions, and grade our past predictions for the Dreamer Trilogy as Confirmed, Denied, or Unknown. Are we possibly psychic? It’s up to you to decide!
NOTES: There was an announcement today (7/3/19) about Ronan’s birthday in the final version of Call Down The Hawk being changed from the listed date in the preview excerpt, to keep in line with events from The Raven King.

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 26, where we cover Chapters 40-43 of The Dream Thieves!
Gansey gets disturbing texts from Ronan’s phone, Adam has gone missing, and Ronan and Kavinsky are out having a Dagobah moment. We tackle (no pun intended) the Great Dick Pic Controversy, and question how many times Shannon read through the books before she thought Ronan was “okay”. We find out what autocorrect has decided Glendower’s poet should be named, and talk about a disturbing number of bodies stuffed in trees. Shannon wonders if we should continue our Fast and the Furious franchise by watching Tokyo Drift and comes down firmly on the side of Team Adam, and Nievita talks about her dream Raven Cycle cosplay accessory. We also mangle a lot of Welsh words. We’re sorry. We tried.
DEEP DIVE: Hywel Sele and Related Legends (from approx. the 16:57 minute mark to 29:37, depending on your player)

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 25, where we cover Chapters 34-39 of The Dream Thieves!
Ronan puts the dreamed Camaro keys to the test by seeking some street racing Zen with Joseph Kavinsky, but gets a collision of epic proportions instead. Meanwhile a different, but no less destructive, type of collision is happening at the Gansey mansion between Adam and RCG3. Looks like lots of things are going to end up broken tonight! We also talk about the fastest cars we’ve ever driven, how street racing relates to Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, and the perfect TV show visuals. Shannon calls Ronan “bro”, Kavinsky is weirdly compared to a white knight rescuing a damsel, and Nievita rants about the legality of abandoning a car (not to mention nightmarish bodies) on the side of the road in Virginia.
LISTENER QUESTIONS: Instead of a Deep Dive this time, we answered listener questions from approx. the 1:05:42 minute mark to 1:19:42, depending on your player)

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 24, where we cover Chapters 31-33 of The Dream Thieves!
The Dad-friend leaves town for a party and everyone goes crazy! Ronan uses his dream-keys to start the Pig and illegally takes Matthew back to their childhood home, Blue and Noah poke into all the crevices of Monmouth and get frisky on Gansey’s bed, and meanwhile the only bright spot for Adam and Gansey is an old guy talking about pigeons. Shannon talks about the car she wishes she could take out of her dreams, Nievita gets caught up in the physiology of ghosts, and we both give our picks for Gansey’s favorite Beatles’ song. Plus, you get DOUBLE the DEEP DIVE!

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 23, where we cover Chapters 27-30 of The Dream Thieves!
Everyone’s on fire at Kavinsky’s substance party, including the Mitsubishi! Ronan and Gansey visit another king’s kingdom, Maura and the Gray Man go on a date where Maura steals yet another piece of his property, and Ronan has a very, very symbolic dream. We also agree that the 80’s were a weird time, Shannon discusses the legality of fireworks, Nievita points out the most unbelievable part of the whole book, and we discuss which one of us would be more likely to follow the other person in a car on a date.

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 22, where we cover Chapters 23-26 of The Dream Thieves!
The Gray Man breaks into Monmouth while flirting with Maura, the Gangsey and Orla make a sweaty and frustrating boat trip to discover some enigmatic clues, and Blue meets her mom’s new suitor while rehearsing The Little Mermaid with Noah. We talk about the Gray Man’s life motto, who has the cutest pet names (spoiler: it’s Mr. Gray’s rental car), and if we would rather live at 300 Fox Way or The Barns. Shannon has an adorable accent, Nievita acts out a piece of fan art (great podcast content for sure), we wonder Who Wore It Best, and we all find out why Alfred was So Damned Great!
DEEP DIVE: Alfred the Great (from approx. the 13:18 minute mark to 21:24, depending on your player)

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 21, where we cover Chapters 19-22 of The Dream Thieves!
The Gangsey make an illegal trip to Ronan’s childhood home to get rid of yet another body. Ronan apparently dislikes light fixtures and psychics but loves his baby brother. Shannon connects the origins of some Sleeping Beauty stories to our good pal Geoffrey of Monmouth and reveals that she has a list of people she would bury a body for. Nievita admits to her childhood career aspirations and favorite Disney villainess, and we debate whether the term “Cat Room” refers to real cats or cat-shaped figurines.
MINI DEEP DIVE #1: The Origins of Sleeping Beauty (from approx. the 39:56 minute mark to 44:27, depending on your player)

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 20, where we cover Chapters 15-18 of The Dream Thieves!
The Gangsey head back to visit their mystical talking tree friends for the first time since Adam made his bargain, but what’s this? A whole forest is gone! The Pig once again breaks down in a plot-convenient way, and Ronan has terrible dreams… some of which escape his head. We talk about what a drama queen Ronan can be, how Gansey can apparently use a smooth pick-up line on everyone except Blue, the parallels between Ronan’s mask dream and incidents in The Raven King, and how even Goddesses can sometimes make poor fashion choices.
