It's a stereotype - the chef (and cooks) yelling at the poor servers as they come into the back of the house to do their job.
I used to be like that too, until I realized a few things:
1) I was being a jerk
2) They're doing they're job and deserve to be treated well
3) We're all on the same team
It came down to CHOICE - how I decided to see the situation and how I wanted to comport myself.
We ALL have choice in how we see ourselves, our problems, and how our lives unfold.
In this episode of Seared, I touch upon the whole FOH-BOH thing and then share how choice has so MUCH POWER in your life.
It literally can change your life....so listen up!

"Use your words" is something that parents will tell their children when the wee ones struggle to convey their feelings or needs.
This is something we can struggle with as adults too.
You have a voice, but maybe you struggle to find or use it. You're not alone!
Do you have a hard time letting others know what you need?
Do you mumble or mutter instead of being loud and clear?
Are you playing small and letting your voice reflect that?
In this episode of Seared, I look at how you can improve using your voice.
Literally.
I give tips on how to find more of that confidence so that you can have more command of those around you (in the best way, of course!) and also increase the feeling of power that you naturally have.
You don't have to have a booming chef voice like yours truly to get your message across (although it can help at times ha ha!)
Leave a review, subscribe on YouTube, or share with someone who may be hiding their voice ;)To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

"Don't play with your food!" is something you've probably heard as a kid.
But playing with your food can be a great thing...when you're a chef.
Play is such a HUGE part of creativity and innovation.
You don't have to be in the kitchen to play around. You can be in the boardroom, the construction site, the studio, the auto shop, the sales lot...wherever...and use play as a way to build, grow, and create.
In this episode of Seared, I share an experience of a chef who blew my mind in terms of how he approached work and cooking.
I share with you ways that play can increase productivity, morale, innovation, and yes, even sales.
When everyone is in a workplace environment where play and exploration is modeled and encouraged, it becomes greater than the sum of the parts...and it's also a lot more fun!

If you're a content creator, you probably dream of going viral, amirite?
Here's the deal: it ain't what it's cracked up to be.
For realies.
Most creators who have gone viral agree - and while the attention can be great for some, for many it's challenging. Trolls. Bots. Skewed Algorithm. Larger, but now disengaged, audience.
There is a tug-of-war in many of us between wanting to be seen and NOT being seen.
In this (unscripted!) episode of Seared, I look at virality, but then get into this friction of seen/unseen. We examine this and the difference between acknowledgement and recognition and how you can learn to acknowledge yourself and others so that you can become a stronger leader and finer, more content, human being.
Of course I will share a few things from the kitchen just to make it land better.

What are you in denial about, homie?
We ALL have those things in our lives where we have a convenient blind spot on.
Whether it's a small thing (denying that you hurt someone's feelings) or something big (denying that you have a substance abuse issue), denial is POWERFUL AF.
How do you step away from denial and into more freedom?
In this episode of Seared, I share examples of denial in the cheffing world and also in my own personal life. I also walk you through ways YOU can relieve yourself of denial so that you can step into a freer and lighter life!To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

Regrets...you've had few right?
We all have had them - those cringe or painful moments where we feel sadness, guily, disappointment, or other similar feelings about things that have happened (or didn't happen).
Regrets are a type of self-directed resentment, and we all know that resentments are like poison to our system.
In this episode of Seared, I take a look at how YOU can overcome regrets through the example of the ONE thing that kept hammering at me.
When you can see regrets for what they are, and the emotions around them, you can release yourself from their heaviness and live life freer, with more joy and openness.
Who wouldn't want that??To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

What do rats and negative self-talk have in common?
They're both unwanted intruders.
The good news is that you have COMPLETE control over your mind and your thoughts (and maybe not to much control over the rodents!)
In this episode, I share with you some kitchen rat tales (tails?) and share how it's so easy to get caught up in negative self-talk.
We all do it, right? We beat ourselves up with corrupted thoughts and "evidence" that just aren't true.
I'll share with you ways to negate the negative self-talk, so that you can start being happier, more content, and more productive.
Squeak squeak, motherf*cker - time to snap the trap on those errant thoughts! To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

"I have to work with WHO again?!"
If you've ever uttered those words, or just have someone in your circles who you JUST DON'T LIKE, then this episode is for you.
How do you handle being around someone you can't stand? What do you do when you have to breathe the same air as "that" person?
You'll hear how it took me TWO years (yes, two years!) to finally figure out why one of my cooks got my blood boiling in milliseconds, and what I learned from that.
You'll also get practical tips on how to manage yourself and the situation when you're "stuck" with someone you dislike. To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

Are chef's artists? Or are they craftspeople?
Does it even matter? But this leads to the discussion of CREATIVITY.
Have you ever said that you're not a creative person?
I call BS on that! You ARE creative, and in this episode, I debunk the idea that only artists are creative. How you create your day, your life, your work, your relationships...everything is creative.
You'll learn the distinction between artistry and creativity, and how YOU can boost your creativity starting TODAY.
You don't have to wield a brush to be creative - you're already doing it and don't even know it!To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

Oh boy. This was NOT the episode I had planned. The one I did plan fell apart quicker than a used tissue in a hurricane.
In this SHORT episode (about 10 minutes), I talk about how I had to let go of a disastrous podcast recording and to just accept that it will NEVER see the light of day. So what do you do when something doesn't go to plan?
You forge ahead. Not everything is going to go to plan. And you know what? This ended up being a heartfelt lesson about letting go of expectations. Of surprises. Of letting the Universe guide you.
This is an unscripted, off-the-cuff recording and man, it almost brought me to tears. I hope that it resonates with you. I think it will.To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

You know the tired trope - the fired up chef, tossing pots and pans everywhere, screaming at people, barking orders, having a mini-meltdown as everyone murmurs "yes chef", "no chef" under their breath.
TV shows, movies, and books all glorify the Angry Chef, or at least poke fun at them. It's something that is very real, though, and anyone who has worked in the hospitality industry has either worked for one, or know someone who has.
But that begs the question - WHY ARE THEY SO ANGRY? It's a good question, and one that I tackle on this episode.
I share what would set ME off back in the day, and common reasons for why chefs may get unhinged. Of course, it's not acceptable, and things are changing - and I share reasons why the industry is turning away from the boring pissy chef.
I also share ways that YOU can calm yourself down when you feel like you're about to burst at the seams with anger. These are things I did while on the line (and now in my office and out and about!) that truly WORK.
And you know I mean business when I wear MY whites on the show! First time ever.To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

Have you ever been told that you're TOO good?
In this episode, I unravel the joy and jeopardy of aspiring to be the best—a journey spiced with intense dedication and the sometimes bitter taste of outshining peers. I share how I was once told that I was TOO fast, TOO ambitious...and how that affected me and my performance.
We also talk about Tall Poppy Syndrome—the cultural snare that trips overachievers, (especially women). I peel back the layers of this phenomenon and the personal price paid by those who shine brightest. This episode gives you tips and strategies to navigate these treacherous social landscapes.
The takeaway? Keep illuminating your talents, nurturing your happiness, and if need be, courageously stepping out of the shadows of an unsupportive environment. Your brilliance is not just necessary; it's worth celebrating. To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

Have you ever stood on the precipice of a decision, toes curled over the edge, ready to leap away from all you've worked towards? That's where I found myself, both in the steamy chaos of my early culinary days and during the quiet contemplation of whether my podcast should continue or come to an end.
In this episode, I share my near-quits, along with the wisdom that kept me grounded. It's an exploration of how our collective struggle with the urge to throw in the towel binds us, and how, paradoxically, it brings us back to the importance of vision and the pursuit of our goals.
Learn how a clear vision can serve as an anchor, preventing you from being swept away by the riptides of burnout and fading passion. I'll reveal the transformative role of setting a vision and how setting measurable goals can lead us to find joy in the mundane, keeping us on course to our North Star. It's a reminder that our paths are paved with more than just the stones of our achievements; they're also lined with the light of our aspirations, guiding us through the darkness of doubt and uncertainty. To find out more about working with me, go to the website to find out more about how life and creativity coaching can work for you.

Ever noticed how you feel when someone gives your their complete attention? In this episode, I share how giving others that same gift can make a difference in their life...and in yours. I outline steps that can help you make more meaningful connections with others.
We'll talk about the art of engagement, from active listening to putting our phones away, and how these simple gestures can deepen our interactions at any time, whether it's with family, or at work.
I also talk about the ONE thing in desserts that I just CAN'T STAND. And maybe you'll agree (and even if you don't, we can still be friends).
And this is the last episode of 2023, so I wish you a fab holiday season (and a cheers to those working during this time - I see you, hospitality folks!)
Looking forward to reconnecting in the new year. Blessings to you all.

Have you ever been accused of being 'too nice?' Perhaps you've grappled with the fear of losing people's validation, or felt a constant need to perform for others? On this episode, I pull back the curtain on the 'nice guy' syndrome, a concept popularized by Dr. Robert Glover. Sharing from our personal experiences, I delve into the hidden darkness of this seemingly benign persona - the dishonesty, manipulation, and repressed anger that can surprisingly breed resentment.
I then share the counterpoint to this - the good man. Unlike the 'nice guy,' a 'good man' doesn't seek validation from others but operates from a place of self-acceptance, sets boundaries, and acts with integrity. I share some tips on how to step away from the nice guy and into the integrated, healthy man.
I also share how support and accountability from fellow men have helped men break free from old patterns. So if you're ready to break free from societal expectations, tune in for an engaging discussion on transforming from 'nice' to 'good.' This is an important episode that needs to be shared with the men in your life.

Grab your headphones and join us as I debunk the all-or-nothing mindset. In this episode, I'll share advice on how to break out of this pattern, emphasizing the importance of seeing things from others' points of view.
And all this insight stemmed from a simple tomato salad. 🤯
I discuss the importance of simplicity and compromise, showing how ditching the all-or-nothing mentality can lead to success.
