Hey guys! It's been a bit since I've posted some fresh content! Here is a piece I had written and recorded a while back that I am only now getting around to sharing with you, hope you enjoy!
Have you ever criticized someone because they made choices that were different from your own? Judged them for feeding their kids too much candy, too much screen time, not enough manners...it's so easy to dish out quick judgements but step in someone else's shoes for a day and you might just change your tune. This one is for all my mamas out there, it's called "Momshaming".
As the old saying goes, it takes a village, but nowadays, moms are expected to do it all and for the most part, alone. But mamas, remember, there's no better tribe than a mom tribe. Let's remember to support each other and lift each other up cuz no matter how much you feel like you're failing as a parent, trust me when I say, you are doing amazing and to your kid, you are amazing just as is.

Intro:
Welcome to Episode 14. As I jot down words and call it poetry, then speak them into life, I am enraptured by the power that words can have in this life. Can you tell I'm a lit major?! But seriously, considering how much impact words can have, words I often toss around carelessly, it makes me think twice before I open my mouth. Personally, my filter between thinking and speaking is paper thin so this practice of writing before speaking helps me to slow down and take caution, reminding me that my words can yield two very polar results.
Closing:
That one is called, May your words. Have you recently said something you regret? Or on the other end of the spectrum, can you recall a time where your simple words of encouragement or kindness, maybe a passing compliment, really made an impact? Before we send out more words into our surroundings, let's be aware of where and how those words will l land on the other end. On that note, I wonder how this podcast is being received on your end? Welcome to episode 13. This week, I'm sharing a piece that's particularly intimate for me as it touches on my vulnerabilities that I rarely let see the light of day. It's called, My Smile.
Let's all take a moment to remind ourselves to be kind to each other 'cuz we just never know what the person beside you is going through. Even those you think are doing well or those you think you know so well, we all have a story to tell. Let's spend more time listening and empathizing rather than judging.

Hello friends, welcome to episode 11. It's morning right now and I'm sitting here with a steaming mug of tea, wrapped in my cozy housecoat. I can't help wonder what you, on the other end, are doing right now, maybe on your commute to or from work? Whatever you are doing and whatever reason you choose to listen to my little podcast, my hope is that it brings you a momentary break from the day, a short pause, to give you some random musings to think about before resuming with the regular program of your mind. Like this morning cup of tea, may the next few minutes be uplifting for you. The piece I have for you today is called Little Bliss. I hope that my short podcast episodes each week may bring a little bliss to your day. May your days be filled with much bliss.

Welcome to episode 10. Sometimes don't you think it's a shame that video killed the radio star?! That's why I'm personally so excited to see the resurgence of this mode through modern day podcasts. The fact that listeners don'ts have a visual for the voice they hear can possibly minimize tendencies to stereotype or categorize based on what is seen. This next piece talks about how my true identity is not simply a reflection of my exterior nor is it defined by where I happened to be born. It's called, Foreigner.
The notion of identity is not a fixed entity. Rather, it is a permeable, ever-changing and living concept that can never truly be pinned down. Examine your own views on identity. What do you identify with? Your birthplace? Your ethnicity? Or how about the predominant culture in your life? The more I try to unpack identity, the more I realize that it is a complex amalgamation of so many diverse life factors, experiences and influences. What are your thoughts?

Welcome to episode 8. My hope is that these short podcasts can act as a little pause in your day, to be a brief moment where you can forget about the craziness of your day and take break from the busyness of life. This piece is about just that, it's called Busy Bee.
I encourage you to find time in your week, even a small window of opportunity to disengage from the speed of life and enjoy a breathe to yourself, to hear yourself breathe and clear your thoughts.

Welcome to episode 4, which makes this the one month mark of the She Speaks Spoken Word Podcast, thanks so much for continuing this journey with me!
Today, I have a question for you, what's the last thing that made you mad? Did you quickly try to curb that anger? Or perhaps feel ashamed about it? The piece I want to share with you today is about an anger that can be praised rather than condemned. It's called, "Righteous Anger". I'm all about spreading love, not hate. But I think that still leaves room to get angry, righteous in anger, how about you?

Welcome back! this is episode 7, if you happened to catch last week's episode, I said that I would be sharing a piece about Equality this week. It's a simple piece that I wanted to keep in a "bare bones" form, so to speak, because frankly, equality is so overly complicated and made to be complex when really, it's a very very simple concept that even children know and explain best. It's called, you guessed it, "Equality".
What do you think is the key to equality in today's society? For me, it starts with simply talking about it. So let's talk! Email me at [email protected] or DM me on IG @shespeaksspokenword

Happy New Year everyone! I didn't schedule this for January 1st, 2019 but it seems fitting to start off with this piece for another year in the spirit of continuing on the 2018 mission, the #yearofthewoman. Thanks for taking this journey with me in 2019.
Welcome to episode 6! This next piece is dedicated to my daughter, my daughter's daughter and the girl who lives in side of me. It's called, Ode to my daughter.

Welcome to episode 5
I originally made this podcast purely to have an outlet for my writing. But the moment I pressed that upload button, something triggered inside of me and I found myself eagerly expectant; for reaction, connection. Of course, expectations always fall short and that made me start to doubt and question why I started in the first place. After all, there were so many better qualified and actually talented artists who should run a podcast before me. As I went to bed with such rumination creating chaos in my head, I came up with this next piece and sure enough, it was the therapy I need to sort out the mess in my mind, reminding me of why I started this podcast in the first place. I hope you enjoy it; it's called, "Comparison is Debilitating."
I'd love to carry on this conversation in the comments or you can email me at [email protected] or DM me on IG @shespeaksspokenword

Welcome to episode 4. Today's piece lives in the softest part of my heart and was inspired by my childhood memories of watching my father work endlessly, a labour of love for his family. As a self-made man who immigrated to an unknown country in his 20s with literally $200 in his pocket, his life is rich with stories to tell. Here's a glimpse of one of them. It's called, "Convenience Store Man".

Welcome to Episode 3: Fun fact about me is that I am a part of a non-profit organization that aims to support underprivileged women around the world to become more economically sustainable. As such, it is important to think about what it means to be a more socially responsible and conscious consumer. Today's episode features a piece that introduces the current issue of consumption.

I decided to put up a back to back second episode so I could take the chance to properly introduce this new podcast and share some background information on how it came to be. And of course, I will share another spoken word poetry piece; this one is entitled, "You Don't Know Me" which is about ~ you guessed it ~ me!

This is the very first episode of the She Speaks weekly podcast. Today's piece is about what truly fills our souls.
