This is number 12 in the podcast series ‘The boating Life’ with Ceri Hurford-Jones as together with Savvy Navvy we go about trying to reduce some of the barriers to boating and hopefully help reduce some of the worries.
We’ve had some fantastic guests on this podcast that have really complemented the young crew we have been following on their circumnavigation of the UK. Once we’ve caught up with them we’ll meet up with the CEO of Savvy Navvy himself, Jelte Liebrand who joins us to share more about the navigation app that’s really changing the way we get out on the water…….first though it’s time to travel up to Scotland and join the crew of the Westerley Sealord ‘Phoenix’ ……… led by skipper Adam, together with Lauren and their Jack Russel, Freddy
Jelte Liebrand is the CEO of Savvy Navvy, he's been sailing since he was eight years old when his granddad taught him how to sail. Later in life he took part in the Clipper Round the world race, an experience that led him to the view that things could be a whole lot better for boaters……..!!!

Joining podcaster Ceri Hurford-Jones is Paul Wager from Auckland, New Zealand. Paul loves nothing more than tearing around the cans on a carbon mini transat prototype boat, which he says is a lot of fun, although he has yet to get anyone else to jump on board with him!
Many years ago Paul used to be a boat builder, until he became a paraplegic. At this point his late wife encouraged him to get reconnected with the water through Sailability of which he is now a trustee and huge supporter. Plus he has some big ambitions looking to be fulfilled……..

Sea safety campaigner, Brendon Prince, has just become the first person ever to stand up paddleboard from Lands end to John O'Groats, in his attempt to circumnavigate Britain.....and he's using savvy navvy...
Brendon commented, "In the world of stand up paddle boarding we are self-powered and consequently any external factor on your ability to self-power can have a big impact on the distance you can cover safely. Wind and tide is a huge element and it's so much easier to have an app that can overlay the two on one screen and savvy navvy do just that. savvy navvy was the most accurate of all the apps I've used that do this and it's good at showing tidal flows in different regions."
Brendon is hoping to be the first person to ever complete this challenge, alongside raising awareness for water safety, men’s health and our marine environment.
