IN THIS EPISODE...Mark W sits down for a one-on-one chat with Stevie Grieve, just recently confirmed officially as the head coach at SJK Seinäjoki.
Stevie talks through his career that started with a job coaching badminton, took in a variety of technical and coaching roles around the world, included hosting his own TV show in India before arrivinga at SJK in early-2023.
We then get into the details of his time in Finland: how did he first connect with SJK Seinäjoki? How did he settle in to Finnish life? What was his biggest surprise about Finland?
We also discuss Stevie's role at SJK, both in recruitment and coaching? Just what are the principles of 'Grieveball'? And how well-suited are Finnish players to other leagues overseas (and why)? We conclude by looking at his ambitions both for the club and for himself in the (hopefully, quite distant) future!!

IN THIS EPISODE...The FFS team are back today to review last week's games for both the women's national team, the Helmarit, and the men's national team, the Huuhkajat. Mark W, Keke, Mark H and Rasmus discuss two Euro 2025 qualifiers for the Helmarit, both close-fought games against the Netherlands.
The Huuhkajat, however, provided pre-Euro 2024 practice for Portugal and Scotland, while also trying a few new things themselves. They hear about Keke's trip to Glasgow and finish up with an update on manager, Markku 'Rive' Kanerva's future.

IN THIS EPISODE...Summer has finally arrived in Finland and so has the pollen and the allergies. So while Mark W sniffs and sneezes through this episode, the Finnish women's national team, the Helmarit, are traveling to Netherlands for the first game in a Euro 2025 double-header. They do have to come straight back for the return match, though.
Keke joins Mark to look at the Finland squad, remind you of the recent results in qualifying group A1 and preview the two games against the Leeuwinnen (Lionesses). They also look at the men's national team, the Huuhkajat, who will play friendlies next week against Scotland and Portugal.

A demoralising 4-1 defeat for Finland, away to Wales in the Euro 2024 playoff, was not going to put off the FFS team – even Mark H made an appearance 😮 They discussed Mark W's pre-match prediction live on BBC Radio 5Live, which was undermined by the Huuhkajat defence only three minutes into the game.
They also talked through the match highlights (possession stats) and lowlights (erm, four goals conceded) before finishing up with a discussion about Markku Kanerva, will he remain as Finland manager? And if not, who could replace him – you will never guess Mark H's suggestion!

IN THIS EPISODE...There hasn't been too much action on the pitch, bt there's been plenty off it. In this episode, Mark W, Rich & Keke look at the managerial situation at HJK and SJK and get to teh bottom of why both clubs have substitute head coaches. They also look at the situation at HIFK, who went bankrupt (again), did not renew it's licence for Ykkösliiga and dropped down to Kolmonen for the 2024 season.
They then look at various cup competitions. The Liigacup gets underway, Ally from the Finnish Football Show will play in the Suomen Cup this year and look forward to the draw for 2024 Nations League on Thursday 8.2. for the Huuhkajat – who still have the Nations League playoff for Euro 2024 to navigate in March!

IN THIS EPISODE...Women's Nations League 2023, Group B2, Games 5 & 6.
Whew, this really is a jam-packed episode, as Mark W and Rich review the final two Women's Nations League games for Finland's Helmarit; a dominant 6-0 win over 10-woman Romania and a battling 2-2 draw away in Slovakia. They also look at the potential impact of this campaign on the Euro 2025 qualifying matches in late-2024.
They then look at the Huuhkajat, who not only have the Nations League playoff for Euro 2024, but their next Nations League group will be drawn early next year. Who said football never stops!

A positive end to the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign for the Huuhkajat. A 'dictionary definition dead-rubber' vs Northern Ireland, was transformed into a thumping 4-0 win around halftime. And even though a 2-1 vistory in San Marino is a little too close for comfort, Finland secured two more wins and six more points.
Mark W, Ally and Rich reviewed both games, while Keke shared his experiences of an awayday to the microstate and helping San Marino celebrate their third consecutive goal. They discussed Finland's potential route to the Euros via the Nations League playoffs, with an away game vs Wales and a possible home game vs Poland or Estonia.
They end the show looking forward to the final two Nations League fixtures for the Helmarit, against Romania and Slovakia, and consider the prosepct of maximum points with zero goals conceded.

Mark W and Keke review the two most recent games for the Finland women's national team, as the Helmarit steamrollered over Croatia, twice, home and away. A truly dominant home victory (just look at the match stats) was followed up by an equally dominant away performance. All of which leaves Finland on the cusp of winning group B2 and progressing into League A for the Euro 2025 qualifying campaign.
They round-up the Veikkausliiga playoffs for the final 2024 Europa Conference League place are now complete. With VPS Vaasa surprising no-one, as they won their final two games against Honka, to secure their return to European action next year. They also throw forward to the remaining games for HJK Helsinki in the 2023 Europa Conference League. Finally, no sooner has the season ended, then the managerial merry-go-round cranks into gear...
