On this episode, we had the opportunity to hear from Audrey White, a grief coach who has experienced immense personal loss, including the passing of her father, mother, and brother and dealing with the fallout of divorce and job losses during the global pandemic.
Despite her own grief, Audrey's experience endowed her with the skills to become a grief coach, enabling her to help others navigate their own loss and painful emotions. She established the Grief Coach Academy, a platform created with the idea of training others to be grief coaches.
Audrey shared a unique coping mechanism she learned at the Grief Coach Academy - the "PEACE" method which helps people work through their grief. It stands for Present, Express, Accept/Appreciate, Consider, and Enthusiasm.
In the conversation, Audrey stressed the importance of allowing yourself to completely experience all the emotions around grief before progressing to acceptance and enthusiasm. Suppressed emotions, she warned, often create obstacles in the grieving process.
Audrey's ethos is to aid people in discovering their peace through their sorrow, in hopes of enabling them to live more fully. One major step towards this, she believes, is normalizing conversations around grief, allowing people to work through their pain in a healthier manner.
About Audrey White:
Audrey White is the CEO of the Grief Coach Academy and holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan. She understands grief both professionally and personally. In 2020, Audrey lost eight family members, including her mother. In 2022, her brother was tragically killed by his wife, who subsequently took her own life. Through her own journey of healing, Audrey has developed a deep compassion for those suffering from loss, setbacks, and grief.

Receiving a diagnosis for your child can be one of the most difficult experiences a parent can go through. It can feel like your world has been turned upside down, leaving you feeling lost and overwhelmed. Motherhood is a journey that is filled with joy, challenges, ups and downs, the best of times, and the worst of times. It requires copious amounts of constant learning, growth, and adaptation to the ever-changing needs of our children. As mothers, we are often called to do it all, balancing our roles as caregivers, nurturers, and providers, all while managing jobs, households, and sports schedules. Though "mindfulness" has become a bit of a buzzword in recent years, in essence, it really just means the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. Mindfulness in motherhood can help moms become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, and better understand how those feelings are affecting their behavior and interactions with their children. In this episode, Cara and Rashida discuss how they use tools such as meditation and affirmations to help them stay grounded in these chaotic years of toddlerhood.

When you’ve lost a person young, there will eventually come a time when you’ve been alive longer without them than with. There’s a time when for one fleeting moment, the grief scale rests at an equilibrium. The before and the after form two perfect halves weighing the same weight in time. We’ve come up with a term for that: Grief Equilibrium. In this episode, Rashida talks about that moment for her. In September 2020 she’s gone 15 years without her mom. A year for every year she had her. From now on the scales will continue to tip in the opposite direction, giving her more life without her mom than with.
